I can't wait to buy this on bluray. [editline]01:01PM[/editline]
I want to see the movie like 10 more times, god I wish there was 20 sequels
Yeah, this is why I wished the video game was better, still gunna get it. a 6.8 is a good enough score for me to buy it. [editline]01:03PM[/editline] The soundtrack is great too. I wonder how many crazy people will try to learn the Na'vi language, I heard there is a vocabulary and grammar, not just random gibberish.
I honestly didn't know what to think when they fought the humans. [sp]When the Na'vi's numbers were thinning and the humans were winning, I honestly didn't know where the movie was going to go from there. I thought Natiri was going to die.[/sp]

I actually cared about Natiri. I felt as though she was an actual actor in the movie despite being Na'vi. Yes of course they used an actual person when shooting the mocap but you know what I mean.
Princeton :eng101:
It was actually Stanford.
I hope that the next one is going to focus more on the plot than the pretty effects, maybe it's just me but I don't enjoy explosions if the plot behind it doesn't convince me (they (the explosions) have to be earned, in lack of a better word). And since humanity needs Unobtanium, Cameron better get his head out of the hippie's ass and for once do what is natural for a human being: be on our side. Now that I think of it, I'm pretty pissed that the plot was so shit (maybe shit is a big word, let's say "bad"), if it hadn't been I would have enjoyed the movie a lot more.
hahahahahahahahaha oh god so you're telling me that because i didn't like avatar, i'm going to die alone and unloved. Well if that ain't just the icing on the "what the fuck" cake.
I'm not pointing fingers, I was just putting that out there.
Jake said Hooah.
He actually said oorah, hooah is the army battle cry.
I'm not pointing fingers, I was just putting that out there.
And aiming at him with a metaphorical finger. You took the argument down a key.
If LotR and Avatar are in the same list, I really don't know how Avatar can be higher... James Cameron really needs to take lessons from Tolkein in how to make a believable and immersing world, it's a shame he's dead.
You're right, Avatar needed more wizards and treants.
He actually said oorah, hooah is the army battle cry.
Actually, Hooah! is more a Marine thing. :eng101:
The soundtrack is great too. I wonder how many crazy people will try to learn the Na'vi language, I heard there is a vocabulary and grammar, not just random gibberish.
That's nothing new though, Disney's Atlantis had its own language created just for the movie too.
Because his "analysis" usually results in him ranting about stuff he doesn't understand when alot of folks seemed to get it just fine.
For the people rating me dumb, you clearly didn't notice the 4-5 page bickering that, had Majache read that GARGANTUAN POST I made back on page 22, wouldn't have happened because he would've understood some of the stuff that was going on just a little bit more.
To be honest. I think Avatar started a new era for movies. Its the first movie to really show the awesomeness of 3D filming. Sadly there are almost no 3D cinemas in Germany, atleast not where I live. Still I'll go and see it :smug:
Actually, Hooah! is more a Marine thing. :eng101:
Oorah is even more of a marine thing and it's also what jake said.
Not really. It has been analysed like that by some over-eccentric fools, but most of it is just Tolkeins serious views on the world at the time (I mean, just look at how evil the east is and how anyone who is black or asian is evil - Tolkein was a major racist). Also, there's no real way I can see a proper relation to the New Testament, especially if you read the Silmarillian.
The trilogy does have some striking resemblance to the bible. Such as Aragon being the new king of Gondor (sound similar to Jesus coming back and destroying evil? yes). Also Tolkien was a devote Christian so its not to far of a thought to consider he added some elements from it.
The ending to LoTR is kinda different from the New Testament (in that "sin" is destroyed). Seriously I can't see a real way in how they relate. People always over-interpret literature.
Any story where the ONE sacrifices himself for the good of all is the same basic story as the story of Jesus. All the rest of it is just filling in details to flesh out the plot. The sacrifice does not always have to result in immediate death. In LOTR, Frodo 'goes west' at the end, he doesn't die on Mt Doom, but the result is the same- he ascends to what is basically Heaven. It's a moment like seeing the first dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, it changes movies from then on. Movies made from now on will not be able to stop from being influenced by what Cameron has done in Avatar with the 3d effect. No, not every movie will be in 3d or should be in 3d, just like not every movie needs CGI creatures. But directors are going to feel inspired to create all new visuals after seeing Avatar.
You're right, Avatar needed more wizards and treants.
Yes let's take everything anyone says at complete face-value, because that always works in an argument. Seriously, I didn't think anyone could possible read "Tolkein makes a much more believable world than Cameron" as "Avatar needs moar Gandalf".
Actually, Hooah! is more a Marine thing. :eng101:
No it's not. You should only use that emoticon when you actually know what you're talking about. ---------------------
The trilogy does have some striking resemblance to the bible. Such as Aragon being the new king of Gondor (sound similar to Jesus coming back and destroying evil? yes).
Right so Frodo is Jesus oh but now Aragorn is Jesus too? Pick one if you're going to make an incredibly obscure connection.
Also Tolkien was a devote Christian so its not to far of a thought to consider he added some elements from it.
Your point being? The book was written at a time when everyone in England was a devote Christian.
Any story where the ONE sacrifices himself for the good of all is the same basic story as the story of Jesus.
That ending comment is quite a decent connection but I can think of hundreds of films where the main character sacrifices a lot for the good of mankind and then lives happily ever after at the end.
He wrote it during WW1. Do you see other fantasy writers kill Germans then write a fantasy novel? No. Thats why LotR has quality, because it comes from a man who has killed before.
He wrote it during WW1.
He started writing it just before the Second World War and finished it just before the 50s.
I really don't think lord of the rings has anything to do with Christian mythology. It reminds me a bit of Norse mythology, but it's really it's own mythology, read the Sillmarillion. I regret bringing it up lol. BACK TO AVATAR...
Return of the King is still the best film of all time, IMO.
I really don't think lord of the rings has anything to do with Christian mythology. It reminds me a bit of Norse mythology, but it's really it's own mythology, read the Sillmarillion. I regret bringing it up lol. BACK TO AVATAR...
Well, that's my point- ALL human mythology is shared. All elements are common, the differences come in the way we mix them. This is because all the elements of these stories(all the ingredients in the recipe) come from the same source- humanity. You can cook recipes with different kinds of pepper, but in the end pepper is still pepper. In general, all humans are concerned with the same things: death, family, honor, love, war, and so on. That's why in pretty much any culture you will find the same kinds of mythology, because humans have been telling stories(creating myths) about these topics since humans could speak. So you could say Tolkien based it on Norse mythology, but what was Norse mythology based on? The mythology of those who came before. It all comes from the same pool.
I want to forget this movie just to get to watch it again. Yes, I thought it was really good, so what.
Am i the only one who didn't like the movie?
Am i the only one who didn't like the movie?
No, but no-one gives a shit to be honest :sigh: The funny thing is, the CGI in this will probably be considered bad in 10 years and then where will we be?
No, but no-one gives a shit to be honest :sigh: The funny thing is, the CGI in this will probably be considered bad in 10 years and then where will we be?
10 years? People will have forgotten all about this by next Summer I bet.
No, but no-one gives a shit to be honest :sigh: The funny thing is, the CGI in this will probably be considered bad in 10 years and then where will we be?
In 10 years we won't be able to tell what is CGI and what isn't.
In 10 years we won't be able to tell what is CGI and what isn't.
In 10 years we will look at Avatar and think "lol video games look as good as this and they come on a single greenray disc"... or something. :P
In 10 years we will look at Avatar and think "lol video games look as good as this and they come on a single greenray disc"... or something. :P
LOL implying we'll still use disc based media in 10 years :allears: [editline]11:27PM[/editline] Rated you funny tho
In 10 years we will look at Avatar and think "lol video games look as good as this and they come on a single greenray disc"... or something. :P
In 10 years we won't have discs, we'll have some sort of digital system.
In 10 years we won't have discs, we'll have some sort of digital system.
In ten years my great grandma will prolly be dead.
In ten years my great grandma will prolly be dead.
Sorry for your loss in advance man. :(
