Back to the script treatment: I really liked the part where Jake saw his own Avatar being born and then he carries it into his arms, it could have been a very beautiful shot. The introduction on earth was pretty cool; there is a scene when the two men in suit from NDA invites Jake for a dinner to eat real meat, which is extremely rare since earth has consummated almost all of his resources. That scene remembers me the one from The Matrix where the agents are with Cypher also dinning. I guess that Cameron noticed the similarities between the two. There are a lot of things pretty sweet in that treatment, it is really a shame that it all got changed radically. Maybe it's because Cameron wanted to make it a huge franchise so it could rival Star Wars, so he had to 'dumb' it down drastically, to have a much better mass appeal. I'm betting that for the sequels he'll make it much more darker in tone with more scifi elements into it, to have a better and more complex plot.
People can't say that Cameron lacks the ability to make a good movie (plot wise) after reading the script for the original Avatar, there has to have been a reason he dumbed it down.
http://chud.com/articles/articles/21969/1/PROJECT-880-THE-AVATAR-THAT-ALMOST-WAS/Page1.html This talks about the original script that James Cameron wrote back in 1995 I've read the beginning of it and it's pretty cool, too bad that Cameron didn't followed his original ideas Here's a resume of the most important aspects in the original script: Attention: spoilers
god-fucking-damnit. What the fuck? What happened to this? E: Oh, five hours. hmm
Saw the movie, loved it despise many stupid points there. Like the water on a floating island. Alot of stuff was unexplained, like the floating isles, why does that goddamn thing cost so much, why does all the animals have those rastas if only smurfs use them etc.
The rocks are floating because of that stuff the humans want.
Saw this movie a few days ago, I liked it (but I think most people did)

I'm guessing that if they make a sequel they will explore more of the back story elements like earth and such. I'll also bet that since RDA lost its base on Pandora it will go bankrupt and Earth will go into complete disarray and possible civil war?
I just came back from seeing it in 3d goddamn its so awesome

[editline]04:17PM[/editline] Also, Colonel Badass's death in the original script isn't as awesome as his death in the current movie.
Holy shit, that early draft was actually quite good. Pity it got a bit dumbed down.
Throwing in some B-roll footage, looks like they cut alot of stuff. Hopefully there will be an extended version coming: http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/avatar/b-roll-i
I could actually see a director's cut of this being a lot better, if they trimmed down some of the scenes.
Read that the extended version will be around 20 minutes longer.
Colonel Quaritch? More like Colonel Badass.
And his funky pistol.
Colonel Quaritch? More like Colonel Badass.
I called him that 3-4 pages ago. Someone who jumps out of a gunship while on fire automatically becomes awesome.
I called him that 3-4 pages ago. This was a great movie... I WISH I SAW IT IN 3D IMAX!
Here's the original treatment, if someone want to read it: http://jesskantor.tumblr.com/post/289166329/this-is-great-the-scriptment-for-avatar
Fucking awesome movie, just saw it about an hour ago. I personally thought the story was amazing and it did have an emotional impact on me at times, which is pretty rare for me. I'm gonna probably see it again in 3D, it's just that good. There will be a sequel, right?

That original script actually sounds like a GOOD MOVIE. I mean, holy fuck, those are good ideas. Why were they replaced with this shit, I mean what the fuck? [editline]01:12AM[/editline]
Holy shit, that early draft was actually quite good. Pity it got a bit dumbed down.
A bit? A bit? Are you fucking kidding me, it looks like they fucking lobotomized it. Shit, I want to see the 1995 Avatar, not this horse shit. [editline]01:14AM[/editline]
Read that the extended version will be around 20 minutes longer.
Which comes to, oh, about 3 hours. :smug:
Me and you Majache, we'll make our own Avatar. And by our own, I mean James Cameron's original Avatar. But that's beside the point. You get the actors, I've got my Sony handycam and I'll meet you in the warehouse down the street in ten minutes. PS bring 300 million dollars if you've got it.
I got 122 million will that suffice?
ehhhhhh let's just put it into advertising
Holy cow, after reading the original script, well, the current one is like shit compared.
Holy cow, after reading the original script, well, the current one is like shit compared.
Completely agree. The original script doesn't seem to have as many, if any plotholes.
ehhhhhh let's just put it into advertising
Oh you :allears:
Anyone up for making a movie version of the original script? I have a pretty decent camera!
Anyone up for making a movie version of the original script? I have a pretty decent camera!
I can draw, I have a degree from the MSPaintiversity of Jamaica.
When Jake was first plugged into his Avatar, does anyone else have a feeling the reason he was acting so, well, cheerful outside is due to the fact there were trees, plants, real fruit, and actual soil? I mean, that could be a holdover from the original, where the main reason Jake stayed was not because he got married, but rather because life on Pandora is better then life on Earth (Greener and crap like that.) Also, there HAD to have been a reason Cameron dumbed the movie down from the piece of win it was originally looking like.
