Its supposedly a super-conductor for energy, it could solve Earth's energy crisis.
As this thread approaches critical mass, I can safely say Majache and I are really cool guys :smug: Not really. Read that original draft again, shit was tight, make that movie Jim.
I watched this movie in 3D yesterday and it was beautiful.

Oh well, maybe he'll use some of the happenings in the sequel.
I saw Avatar the movie in 3D one time and after wanted to watch in again.I can say is the best movie i ever saw and i love it !:)
Wow a movie thread that's actually gonna need a second thread. You guys sure like discussing this. also I'm starting to wonder if this film actually will pass $1 billion. This monday's gross was 19 mill, an improvement on the previous mondays 16 mill, and it managed to beat two big name movies over the weekend as well. Repeat viewings are gonna really help it. Gonna be close for sure.
Colonel Coffee Cup is the hero this universe deserves.
2nd Thread needs a link to the original script, shit's tight.
I demand the second thread's OP be written by Majache.
More like Colonel Ridiculous Stereotype. Or maybe Colonel Cartoonish Villain.
There's actually a bit more substance to him if you actually bother to think about it.
Fair enough, but why weren't the floating rocks slowly rotating, like the sample of it that the CEO-type human had on his desk? And why would it make mountains float, but not plants, critters, or anything else?
It's hard to rotate when you're tethered to each other with vines/roots. Plus if you noticed the guy playing with the rock (yeah, he has $20 million sitting on his desk, that's kinda weird to me), he can spin it, then stop it, and it'll stay perfectly still.
And where the fuck did the water on the floating mountains come from? If water is constantly pouring out of the floating islands then it has to be coming from somewhere. But the floating mountains aren't big enough to have natural springs, glaciers, or any other possible source for that volume of water.
Condensation/rain. It's actually a phenomena that happens on Earth too, in a similar environment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tepui
Actually, I'm pretty sure I saw at least one big rock turning when they were climbing all those rocks, and they reach the point where they needed to climb the vines. As far as I could tell, the vines were slowly moving around, and thats why they were waiting. [editline]09:22PM[/editline]
I thought that was some form of interactive hologram :raise:
He picks it up and says that the rock is worth millions. Pretty much where we learn why they are there really.
I thought that was some form of interactive hologram :raise:
If you came to that conclusion, I can see why so much of the movie confused you.
Final thoughts on this thread: Original script would've kicked ass, but not as many people would've seen it. Current one is a pale ghost compared to the original script, but it apparently worked (you can't argue against near perfect reviews and almost $1 Billion in profits.)
They're going to move around a little due to wind currents, but other than that they're not just going to spin around because they're all tethered to each other.
Eh, it doesn't matter, it looked like it was rotating from what I could see. Mind you, I'm going to see it in 3D soon, so maybe that will reveal things some more.

Mind you, I'm going to see it in 3D soon, so maybe that will reveal things some more.
Actually, I had one little problem with seeing it in 3D: There's SO MUCH stuff. It's hard to focus on any one thing because the environment is so saturated with depth that it's hard to stay focused on any given thing. Or for me it was, at least.
The last thing he needs is a machine that does things for him, he needs to workout constantly or his body will atrophy.
...because there's no such thing as workout equipment in the future, right? [editline]09:55PM[/editline]
There's actually a bit more substance to him if you actually bother to think about it.
I disagree with this statement as much as is humanly possible. Please expand on this.
Condensation/rain. It's actually a phenomena that happens on Earth too, in a similar environment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tepui
It wasn't raining when we saw the waterfalls from the floating rocks. We saw no lakes in the mountains that were sizable enough to allow such steady outpourings of water at such great volume. The fact is that they thought it would look cool and didn't bother to think past that.
I disagree with this statement as much as is humanly possible. The wiki article I linked to probably didn't bring up Angel Falls, the tallest waterfall in the world. There's no springs up there, no lakes/reservoirs, it's all from condensation from the fog and whatever rain they get alone. And yet there's a steady, ongoing waterfall.
(you can't argue against near perfect reviews and almost $1 Billion in profits.)
I can and I will.
...because there's no such thing as workout equipment in the future, right? Having him work his own chair provides cardio as he goes about his daily life. A person would have to be a moron to not see how much more sense and convenience it makes. That's not even considering the psychological aspect, ie YOU being in control vs you just limply sitting there as a machine moves you around. Considering this guy's past, you know he wants control as much as he can have. He even refuses a bit of help in moving his legs at one point in the movie.
gimme the link and I will.
Here you go: http://chud.com/articles/articles/21969/1/PROJECT-880-THE-AVATAR-THAT-ALMOST-WAS/Page1.html
The movie was pretty good, and the visuals were fantastic, but I hated the ending. It was a case of relying on deus ex machina, and I hate deus ex machina. It is a stupid and usually unrealistic plot device, and it was way too obvious that it was going to happen in both the final fight with the Colonel and also when all the animals suddenly appear. Not a bad movie by any means, but not Cameron's best.
Its supposedly a super-conductor for energy, it could solve Earth's energy crisis.
Must not be much of an energy crisis if some company is able to send thousands of people 6 light years away to set up an enormous mining base.
Must not be much of an energy crisis if some company is able to send thousands of people 6 light years away to set up an enormous mining base.
What you just said basically cemented the idea it is an energy crisis.
Must not be much of an energy crisis if some company is able to send thousands of people 6 light years away to set up an enormous mining base.
Dude, you're forgetting it only takes them 5 years to travel 6 light years :pseudo:
In order to give an accurate assessment, I'd like to hear what YOU think first, in more detail than "he was just a cheesy villain" if possible.
No. He was cartoonish in every possible way and seemed more like a G.I. Joe villain than a real human being. Stop stalling and tell us what you thought was so "deep" about Gen. Scars McEvil.
It was foggy as fuck though. The fog broke when they got to the mountains. Which is how we were able to see them. 2.) Angel falls requires an enormous plateau rain forest to act as a condenser to collect enough water to keep it going. The floating mountains had bigger waterfalls on small mountains that clearly did not have enough vegetation to collect enough condensation to produce that much water. [editline]11:03PM[/editline]
What you just said basically cemented the idea it is an energy crisis.
I can't decide if I should rate this dumb, or "bad spelling" because it's such a broken sentence.
