but he cannot write a script to save his life.
Aliens?
T2?
Also I find it ironic that both Cameron and Ridley Scott haven't made proper sci-fi in fucking years.
This.
Cameron is a good director, and whoever Cameron hired to do the CGI is amazing, but he cannot write a script to save his life.
Except his script for the original Avatar was incredible.
1. They’re making their own ‘alien language and culture’ for the film to make it more authentic. The detail they're putting into the language is incredible. Wikipedia copy-paste: "Working with Paul Frommer, linguist and Director of the Center for Management Communication at USC, he developed a whole language and culture for the Na'vi, the indigenous race on Pandora"
All they did was combine Native American and Ethiopian cultures.
Why the fuck did they need a bunch of PhD's at USC to do that?
It was better.
I'll sum it up.
The story was unoriginal, the characters were not memorable, but the CGI was astounding, and the immersion of Pandora and it's environment is excellent.
Agree but I thought Colonel Quatrich was a pretty memorable character. i felt like I was watching some old 90's action film whenever he was on screen. Stephen Lang is awesome.
I feel it was more of a tech demo than a movie. Not that the plot was awful, it was just generic.
He is bad ass in Public Enemies (a [sp]far BETTER[/sp] film)
I want to get around to seeing it sometime soon
I feel it was more of a tech demo than a movie. Not that the plot was awful, it was just generic.
The Crysis of the movie world, if you will.
He is bad ass in Public Enemies (a [sp]far BETTER[/sp] film)
[sp]Was he the guy that shot dillinger in the head at the end?[/sp]
Thread needs this interview :D

Who plays Colonel Quartich anyway? He seems like a new face.
I'm going to see it on the 17th since our nearest 3D cinema is 2 hours away.
I'm probably going to see it tomorrow. And I'm making sure that it's going to be watched 3d
I feel it was more of a tech demo than a movie. Not that the plot was awful, it was just generic.
Wow, excellent comparison!
Definitely the best 3D and best CGI I have ever seen, but yeah it did feel like a tech demo.
I hated it when I saw it in the movies, but after I got home I started to think. It really is a good movie. Or maybe it's just the na'vi's blue skin that I find hot.
[sp]Was he the guy that shot dillinger in the head at the end?[/sp]
[sp]Yes[/sp]

Stephen Lang, badass.
Stephen Lang

He was in Gods and Generals, Public Enemies, and The Men who Stare at Goats? How the fuck didn't I recognize him...
He's that badass.
Continuing the shitstorm...
This is still cartoonish as shit.
You deny that there's no such people?
What subtlety is there about him? What depth of character or conviction?
Not all people are subtle.
He is violent for the sake of violence, militaristic for the sake of militarism.
He is an utterly one-dimensional character whose sole motivation is to do violence.
He's so fucking single-minded that he even lacks basic self-preservation instincts, and instead of running away to fight another day, just keeps rushing forwards to his inevitable doom.
Add "borderline psychotic" to character traits list.
If you're admitting that they just did shit because it looked cool and didn't bother to think about it, why are you arguing with me?
Obviously they did think about it, there's a fine balance between making something presentable and enjoyable and making it 100% realistic in a manner that may utterly ruin the movie. It's something you see in pretty much every behind-the-scenes feature, talks about "we almost did this, but..." or "we did this instead of that because...".
Feel free to look this one up before attacking me, why don't you?
Feel free to make an ass out of yourself by assuming I'm referencing "Up" and didn't do a basic Google search about Angel Falls before commenting.
I Googled the actual not-in-a-cartoon Angel Falls, and everything I read about it says there's hella vegetation on top. What proof do you have that there isn't any?
I didn't say there wasn't any vegetation on Angel Falls, I said there wasn't alot.
I'll just assume you're an expert in ecosystems and leave you to your little world then. Tepuis have little to no vegetation on top of them, contrary to what you saw in "Up".
I made the error of generalizing the statement, I agree, but a quick look yields this:

Sure doesn't look nearly as lush as the surrounding jungle to me. Thinner air = fewer plants or at the very least fewer LARGE plants.
He's that badass.
He's a badass ninja.

The fuck did it double-post for? >:/
All they did was combine Native American and Ethiopian cultures.

yeah i was pretty disapointed about that.
Who plays Colonel Quartich anyway? He seems like a new face.
Duke Nukem.
I loved it, so I would say 9/10.
I have to admit, the plot was a predictable one, but I enjoyed it through and through.
I just came back from watching it and I really enjoyed it (I watched it in 3D too), but it only gets a 9 from me because they didn't explain some stuff about Pandora.
In the first scene were there actually was no gravity on the spaceship I was impressed and though it would be pretty realistic. The first thing that made me think "Whaaat?" was when they said that an avatar is a combination of human DNA with alien DNA. But why the fuck would life that formed completely separate from us have similar DNA? Why does it have DNA at all?
Second thing were those weird "bands". Why do all the animals have those weird bands, they don't make any evolutionary sense. They could have easily explained it after [sp]they found out that the whole planet is a huge brain[/sp], but they never did.
And what was the worst of all were those god damn flying mountains. They just defy tons of physical laws by floating mid air. What the hell happened to gravity?
Did they actually explain some of that stuff and I just missed it?
Edit:
Oh and it was obvious from the first scene where you saw that alien girl that they would [sp]end up in love.[/sp]
Why do we even need good movie makers anymore when the only thing it takes to engage you people is CG and explosions?
I mean, what's the fucking point. Why bother with characters, or plot, or narrative, or story telling when all you have to do is have a bunch of blue aliens fighting satan.
This is fucking 1910 shit. This is like fucking 90's comic books. I can understand being entertained, I was too, but to say that this is a great movie? Let alone saying that it wasthe best fucking movie of all time? Fuck no people, this is a stupid movie. It has no substance. Hell half of you even admit you wanted to kill the blue fuckers even though they were the protagonists. Not to mention the sheer magnitude of how insane that statement is, saying you can pick out one movie out of a hundred years of film as 'the best'.
You people need to watch some fucking movies. You're turning into Hollywood producers.
