Not going to bother analyzing the film into bits. By watching the trailers and reading about it I knew it wasn't going to be the most intelligent flick to hit the theaters, so I simply went to get some entertainment for two and a half hours. And it sure as hell delivered on that front.
I just came back from watching it and I really enjoyed it (I watched it in 3D too), but it only gets a 9 from me because they didn't explain some stuff about Pandora. In the first scene were there actually was no gravity on the spaceship I was impressed and though it would be pretty realistic. The first thing that made me think "Whaaat?" was when they said that an avatar is a combination of human DNA with alien DNA. But why the fuck would life that formed completely separate from us have similar DNA? Why does it have DNA at all? Second thing were those weird "bands". Why do all the animals have those weird bands, they don't make any evolutionary sense. They could have easily explained it after [sp]they found out that the whole planet is a huge brain[/sp], but they never did. And what was the worst of all were those god damn flying mountains. They just defy tons of physical laws by floating mid air. What the hell happened to gravity? Did they actually explain some of that stuff and I just missed it? Edit: Oh and it was obvious from the first scene where you saw that alien girl that they would [sp]end up in love.[/sp]
Lol, you're stupid. It was totally obvious that the mountains were floating because they had high concentrations of unobtainium and unobtainium is a room temperature superconductor and so it float when near strong sources of gravity. I mean, it was explained so thoroughly, how could you miss it? :downs:
Too bad I only saw it in 2D...
i like the fact that they used papyrus for all of their marketing and shit
It's a bunch of eyecandy and stop treating it like it's anything different.
I didn't notice it was out yet. :D Gonna go watch it in a few weeks then.
Why do we even need good movie makers anymore when the only thing it takes to engage you people is CG and explosions? I mean, what's the fucking point. Why bother with characters, or plot, or narrative, or story telling when all you have to do is have a bunch of blue aliens fighting satan. This is fucking 1910 shit. This is like fucking 90's comic books. I can understand being entertained, I was too, but to say that this is a great movie? Let alone saying that it wasthe best fucking movie of all time? Fuck no people, this is a stupid movie. It has no substance. Hell half of you even admit you wanted to kill the blue fuckers even though they were the protagonists. Not to mention the sheer magnitude of how insane that statement is, saying you can pick out one movie out of a hundred years of film as 'the best'. You people need to watch some fucking movies. You're turning into Hollywood producers.
Give up, man. Just wait 'til we get our version of Avatar off the ground... SOMEDAY :gbsmith:
Give up, man. Just wait 'til we get our version of Avatar off the ground... SOMEDAY :gbsmith:
Fuck someday, I'm pissed now. I need to go punch somebody at the local Christian re-education center for being an ignorant fucking prick.

at first I thought it was going to be fern gully with explosions but I was pretty pleasantly surprised The whole 3D thing is really cool, because they didn't turn it into some shit gimmick and it was just to the point where you don't really notice it, but it's still immersive liked Sherlock Holmes more though [editline]07:56PM[/editline] everyone groaned when we heard them call the mineral "unobtanium" I mean, really?
Are you serious? Did I really miss that or is that some kind of sarcasm?
That's the reason behind it, but it wasn't explained well in the movie. He was being sarcastic. And yes, I didn't care for it being called unobtanium either.

Toliken first introduced the hippie treehugging elves, drunkard short dwarves, and war and destruction obsessed humans). I haven't seen Avatar yet (I feel like the only one on the Internet who hasn't), but I really enjoyed District 9, and it will be hard to top that. [editline]1[/editline] I like how someone is rating everyone dumb.
When I saw the flying mountains my balls left the building and took a flight to holy fucking shit land
I swear I heard you say that in the last thread. :P
I voted 7.

Not good or evil per say, just odd. Same with dwarves, though the dwarves were more rowdy. But you could easily pass that off as culture. 2. The humans in Tolkien's universe were in no way like that. Yes, as part of the story humans are intrinsically ambitious, but plenty of them were kind and altruistic people. Faramir for instance was kind, understanding, and noble. But even he had his wants and ambitions. If you like asplosions and morality plays it should be one of your favorite movies.
I don't understand the folks who tries to change others opinions about a movie. If someone liked/love it, what does it matter? It's just a piece of entertainment. Some people are such a nerd that they ruin all the fun.
Because movies can say and teach things but people are too fucking stupid to listen and it pisses me right the fuck off when the intelligent movies are ignored for fluff like Avatar?
We are talking about a Hollywood movie here, their main objective is to entertain, not to teach. Intelligent movies are still being made, people can go watch them. It's not like Avatar is going to oblige all the film makers to make action fantasy epic films from now on. What is the problem?
I would just like to say what plot ideas have not already been used? Everyone is saying its so "generic" and it was but, what else is there. The only plot idea I got is how about evil winning some in movies. Anyways it was a good movie, to me its like a preview to show off the new 3D technology.
I watched it in 3D, It was awesome. I didn't like the ending, I wanted more of those blue fucks to die

Because dog shit like Avatar sucks up all the fucking money and attention. I mean, not like it matters because American audiences are already stupid as fuck and wouldn't watch anything intelligent without being bribed beforehand, but at the very least they could exist. The problem is people are stupid as shit and we're turning into fucking idiocrasy where all it fucking takes to entertain people is a large advertising budget and a bunch of fucking stereotypes. At least that shook it up somewhat, what we have now is absolutely identical to fucking Dances with Wolves. Don't tell me there are no ideas. I can come up with ideas more original than the ones in Avatar off the top of my fucking head. (User was banned for this post ("Trolling & General prickery. majache chill the fuck out
majache chill the fuck out
Fuck that.
While Vince Pace's 3D camera system was at the time revolutionary, nowadays this is how all 3D is shot, and is very easy to do with a mounting bracket; in fact, a third year student on my course is currently using one to shoot his final year project, the only main difficulty is adjusting focus and zoom at the same time, although likely quite easy to overcome by modifying a follow focus set In fact there are now digital cinematography cameras smaller and easier to handle than the ones used on Avatar, only marginally heavier and bulkier than a regular 35mm camera Really fuckin' sweet film, I still feel like it was missing the aristic depth that I would give to a film deserving of a "10", however The best of the blockbusters
All they did was combine Native American and Ethiopian cultures. Why the fuck did they need a bunch of PhD's at USC to do that?
Over the length of a film, feature or otherwise, you can only really go so far as far as characterisation is concerned, and so still need to rely on stereotypes to create empathy in the viewer. Same reason Wickus was a pretty obvious south african whitey stereotype (van der merwe is a last name which embodies a south african stereotype of a farm boy/white trash) and scottish/russian stereotypes are played up in Star Trek

Please explain to me sir, why movies don't just do what you said and come up with original ideas that will blow away the audiance? If you could please clear that up for me?
I liked Sherlock Holmes much more than this.
I liked Sherlock Holmes much more than this.
Just think if it was in 3D.
I really liked the movie so that means that I'm a real moron, right? I absolutely hated Transformers 1 & 2, but that doesn't mean that I should go to forums/threads about that flick and start trolling all the people who liked it. It just a waste of time. Taste is subjective.
