Inglorious Basterds doesn't really have many redeeming features for me.
What? It's one of only two films I have seen this year that were seriously good. That and D9. Public Enemies was okay though, I'd probably rate that very slightly higher than Avatar but maybe because I'm not naturally inclined to dislike Public Enemies because I like the director and it wasn't horribly over-hyped.

First half of D9 was great, but then it tried to turn into some hybrid action movie.
What? The start of Avatar is okay too, but it doesn't nearly do enough to make the rest of the cliched storyline and action crap seem any better.
after seeing it i was like OMG THIS IS AWESOME but i think i was just blinded by the CGI a few days later and on reflection, the story wasnt all too good.
Because I described how he filled his role in the movie to the degree that was required. Now it's your turn to show me how he didn't.
The ROLE was the part that was cartoonish and retarded, not the acting. And I'm not saying that the ROLE didn't fill the need for "Cartoonish Villain #7", I'm saying that a writer who didn't suck ass could have come up with a more believable and nuanced bad guy.
You mean like how they control the avatars with no real linkage? I'm surprised that neither you nor the guys who side with you are complaining about lack of explanation for THAT little tidbit, considering it's one of the crucial parts of the movie and not scenery.
Considering that we can already implant electrodes in the brains of monkeys and get them to control robotic arms, I don't think it's as big of a leap as you seem to think it is. I think most people can figure out that it would involve implants in the heads of the Avatar bodies.
Got asked by a friend if I wanted to see Avatar again with him, this time in 3D. Edit: I guess not. Completely sold out.
Best fucking film i've ever seen.
How many have you seen? This one and Pootie Tang? [editline]10:21AM[/editline]
What? [editline]10:21AM[/editline] Probably because of that cheesy mech fight.
The Na'vi are awesome.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Film/Avatar Tropes out the fucking ass.
Trope =/= Cliche.
Is it bad that I felt sad when general badass died?
Trope =/= Cliche.
Thanks for explaining something that most people understand?
I think this concept had the ability to be the next Star Wars but when I saw the movie I just couldn't help but think: "This story is 14 years in the making and that's all he came up with? Dances With Wolves in Space with a proliferation of 1 dimensional characters and little subtlety about the messages?" He should have stuck with the original 4 hour script, cut it in the middle to make two 2-hour movies and made a third about humans coming back en-masse and getting their asses kicked again. That would have done this concept justice. It is still an amazing movie, but the iffy writing hurts my opinion of it quite a bit.
0, this move sucks ass, it has a shity story that sounds like a bunch of sci-fi's boiled down into one, "the message" sounds like a 1970's peace rally, and the stereoptical version was really just putting blurry-as-fuck screens over anyone who wasn't considered important enough. The CG was nice, but apparently all 3D artists MUST make everything just a tad cartoonish for the dolts who can't tell the difference. I can't feel my fucking eyes from that shitty digital theatre I saw it at. I need to see an optometrist now, thank you James Cameron, for your wonderful fucking movie. I hope you die slowly in a fire.
Good, not the best movie I've seen, but it was about an 8 out of 10, maybe an 8.5. I liked Colonel Quartich by the way, he was like an evil version of Michael Ironside in Starship Troopers. Even though he was a total dick. There was some very liberal application of science though, like the "HURF DURF IF I INHALE REALLY HARD BEFORE I JUMP OUT AN AIRLOCK ILL BE OKAY" [editline]10:10AM[/editline] See, I like the way TV tropes describes the third, smallest group of people who saw the film. I went to the theater expecting a cliché plot and cool battle scenes with some over-the-top obvious messages, and I was totally satisfied by it.
Aside from the CGI, General Badass was badass and really actually made the movie for me alone.

Maybe because there seemed to be only one way some scenes would pan out, which made it a tad predictable. I saw Hans Landa's change of heart coming for example.

I don't see why people (that movie critic posted earlier in particular) are saying the whole movie is about patronizing white people. I think everyone's looking a little too deep into a Sci-Fi movie.
I think everyone's looking a little too deep into a Sci-Fi movie.
Yeah I agree, why can't people just enjoy the movie and stop analyzing shit that doesn't even make sense.
Didn't think I would like it, but holy shit, it was extremely amazing. I especially loved the environments and the creatures in the world. It was incredible, to say the least. Best movie I've seen in a while. As for the story, it was average. Wasn't horrible, but it wasn't amazing. But usually when I see a movie like this, I pay more attention to the artistry of it. Because I want to get into the concept art business, that's usually what I look at anyways.
I watched it last night and i have to say it is the best 3d film i have ever seen. Well worth going to watch....just make sure you watch in 3d :D
Saw it the other day in 3D, have to admit, it was really freaking good! I was thinking the story was going to be a little boring, but i was thoroughly interested all the way through! 3D was absolutely amazing, can't wait to see it implemented in more movies. Animation was GREAT, never seen such good looking CGI! Definitely gets my hyped for 3D TV's, being able to watch 3D movies at home and 3D tv shows(NFL baby!).
It dragged on in the middle. Good movie but people are making way too much of a hype over it.
Would actually watch a sequel, despite my naysaying.
O: Seriously?
No, because the Na'vi. They are the most awesome part of the movie.
They're a bunch of tall humans with blue skin, giant eyes, elf ears, and Neanderthal faces. The only awesome thing they could do is die.
And Avatar keeps raking in the cash Avatar Box office Tuesday December 29th $18,290,628 Compared to last week: Avatar Box office Tuesday December 22nd $16,086,461 Source: http://twitter.com/ERCboxoffice It keeps growing with no signs of slowing down.
