I don't get why the plot sucked, I liked it and the visuals where amazing (watched it in 3d)
The plot was traditional, as James Cameron intended, so the movie wouldn't completely -excuse this pun -alienate the audience. The movie is already set in the future on an alien planet with mostly alien characters mixed with humans. If it had a crazy sci-fi plot, a majority of the general audience wouldn't have been able to relate to it. But quite a few people seem to think a traditional plot = a bad written movie.
Favourite piece of music in the film. :buddy:
That song and this: If it doesn't win an oscar for best soundtrack, I will go nuts.
Yep it takes James Cameron to top James Cameron's other generic mediocrity that the public laps up like a hungry puppy to milk.
I've seen it in 2D, but I am going to see it in 3D as well soon :D
I don't get why the plot sucked, I liked it and the visuals where amazing (watched it in 3d)
The plot sucked because it was just a rehash of the plots of other movies with some blue furries thrown in.
The plot sucked because it was just a rehash of the plots of other movies with some blue furries thrown in.
Ok, we get it.
Cant find the youtube vid with the handcam shots from deleted scenes(without musi, just the shots, no commentary) Anyone?
Here you go, even though it's not YouTube: http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/avatar/b-roll-i
The plot sucked because it was just a rehash of the plots of other movies with some blue furries thrown in.
Some people like traditional plots. Just because a movie doesn't have a story to rival the best, it doesn't mean the movie is automatically shit. Different people like different things.
Hey remember when a bunch of douches ran around the video game forum saying graphics don't make the game? Yeah that was pretty funny.
yuh
Hey remember when a bunch of douches ran around the video game forum saying graphics don't make the game? Yeah that was pretty funny.
Yea man Crysis is like the most fun game ever :downs: cause you know everyone plays that.
Great movie. It's plot makes you want to actually be there, despite the things in the forest that want to kill you and such. Makes Earth seem like a shithole, when in reality, it seemingly has become.
Was I the only one who thought the shiny dog things looked kinda crappy in 3D? Everything else looked great, but they looked kinda false...
They did look a bit...off. But not enough to get to me.
They did look a bit...off. But not enough to get to me.
This.
Was I the only one who thought the shiny dog things looked kinda crappy in 3D? Everything else looked great, but they looked kinda false...
I thought I was watching Resident Evil when they ambushed Jake
I thought I was watching Resident Evil when they ambushed Jake
At least they looked awesome when they were just eyes.
I thought I was watching Resident Evil when they ambushed Jake
The scene where Jake was running through the jungle and jumping over logs to get away from them was pretty damn cool in my opinion.
The night time scenes are some of my favourite visuals in any movie
I declare James Cameron's Avatar as the winner of the Near Elite's Best Movie Awards 2009. 10/10
I'm going to see this in 3D tomorrow at a normal theater. Do normal theaters just have some shitty Red/Cyan glasses way of seeing it, or what?
No, nobody uses that format anymore.
Was I the only one who thought the shiny dog things looked kinda crappy in 3D? Everything else looked great, but they looked kinda false...
I thought most of the animals were rather uninspired anyway. "Here's an alien horse... it's like a normal horse but we put an extra pair of legs on it".
I thought most of the animals were rather uninspired anyway. "Here's an alien horse... it's like a normal horse but we put an extra pair of legs on it".
I liked the hammerhead rhino.
That deer thing freaked me out when it looked up and flared that super colorful head feather deal right before they killed it. I did not expect that at all. Also the helicopter lizards were my favorite.

I wish it was much longer :(
Considering that we can already implant electrodes in the brains of monkeys and get them to control robotic arms, I don't think it's as big of a leap as you seem to think it is. I think most people can figure out that it would involve implants in the heads of the Avatar bodies.
but tehy didnt mentoin it newher in teh film so its stoopit rite? :downs: I brought it up as an example because alot of people seem to hate this movie just because they can't stand a little science in their science fiction, at least not the kind that requires a little thinking to figure out. There used to movies where you're like "How does an alien the size of a cat molt once and become larger than a human without eating anything?" when the answer is "WHO CARES IT'S *supposed to be* SCARY AS FUCK!", or "How can a car time-machine fit a high-output nuclear reactor with such a small form-factor?" when the answer is "WHO CARES IT'S COOL AS FUCK!"
Also the helicopter lizards were my favorite.
Fuck yeah, I wish I could have one as a pet, that'd be fucking rad. "The hell is this?" "That's Da Vinci." "What the hell is-*touch* HOLY FUCK AWESOME! D:"
I wish it was much longer :(
15 - 20 minutes longer if they release the extended cut ;) Edit: Pretty informational
I hated the fact the soldiers had to die against some fucking retard-terradactyl riding-indian aliens with some goddamned bow and arrows. Why they hell did they mount a ground offensive? Stay at your damn base. The soldiers should've kicked their ass to kingdom come. For that, I didn't like the movie. I got pissed when people clapped because of that Colonel or whatever he was died in the Mech warrior suit thing.
