What ads did you guys get at the start?
We had Toy Story 3 :3:, Tim Burton's Tim Burton the Movie, which looks like another shit Tim Burton fest and something else which I can't remember.
We got Alice In Wonderland, which looks very weird...great 3d effects but weird.
We got this Hubble Telescope thing, that was pure awesomeness. It looked completely 3d, like the Hubble telescope was partly sticking out into the theater. Nothing in Avatar looked like it was sticking out into the theater the way this did. In fact, I'd say if Avatar is the best 3d experience ever, that Hubble telescope preview was the second best 3d ever. I can only imagine how incredible the movie is going to be.
We got the Toy Story 3 preview too. That was not very impressive, it reminded me more of typical 3d(stuff like My Bloody Valentine). It was 3d, but nothing that makes you say "Wow!".
I've just realized how uncomfortable I am going to feel sitting in a cinema watching sexy 3D cat smurfs on screen, right next to the girl I brought out on a date. Fuck.
Are there any screen caps of Pandoran nipslips online?
I couldn't stop staring at the blue titties the entire film.
It was distracting as fuck.
hm
So is there a new HDMI standard for 3D, for the extra frames?
And is there a 3D TV standard yet?
Also blu-ray 3D standards?

It will be awkward.
It will be awkward.
Why does everyone think sex is awkward? Are they ashamed of their own sex life or what?
What? It looks like it'll win an oscar.
A Mexican janitor named Oscar will be throwing it in the trash, perhaps.
Gonna watch Avatar in 3D tomorrow, they better not be sold out!

Yep.
$750 million in 2 weeks. Thats crazy.

It crossed $800 million today.
Visuals were great.
The movie itself, not great, in fact, it sucked as a movie, uninspired characters, full of cliches, predictable story, corny dialogue etc.
4/10

Well, when you look at MY sex life (eg. none), combined with the fact this is my first serious date in, well, ever...

I wouldn't have given it that bad a score, but I agree with the points you made. Personally, I'm not so swayed by visuals and some 3D like the general movie-going population.

If this films gets an Oscar for special effects, fair game. Well done. If it gets anything else I will be sorely disappointed.
just watched it today, was amazing.

Slumdog Millionare got a shitload for no reason other than every movie that entire year was garbage. It won best original score, it barely had one. At least it's better than that one time that rapper pimp movie got it.

The only reason people liked that movie was that it was Poverty Porn.
If you want to go see a movie all about special effects and no story, you should go watch transformers, not Avatar.

Toy Story 3, Alice in Wonderland (which I'm actually looking forward to, I tend to like Burton's stuff although Disney apparantley dumbed it down like crazy, it's supposed to be MUCH darker/grittier than what it's going to be), Salt, and I think that's it.

:argh:
Tell me about it. We've all seen how dark Burton can get in the past, so it's sad news to hear.
Is there a member here called James Cameron with an avatar?

Except Avatar is better at both.

Thank you captain obvious
Just saw it at the IMAX theater. Best movie I've seen in years.
I know it's one of those "suspension of disbelief" moments, but I want to know how they traveled light years into space to this planet.
I thought avatar was amazing because it took me to a new world of adventure. The immersion I felt watching this gave it a feeling like no other. You don't feel like you're at a theater anymore, I felt like I was there. The 3D is not a gimmick, it makes the screen have depth. If I wanted a load of plot I would have read a book.

The 3D Avatar used was great. It was subtle, they didn't blast it in your face like the fucking Shrek and Alice in Wonderland advertisements did at my theater. It was really well done, and I'm glad I went to go see it.

In the script they use antimatter engines, their fuel was deuterium.
