I missheard the name in the movie as Ununoctanium, which is a real element with the highest atomic mass and is also pretty mysterious in itself so I thought thats a great name, later I realized it was unobtanium, which I guess is pretty clever but kind of dumb sounding. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ununoctium
Although they'd have to make the film Uuo nothing like the real Uuo, because the real one is one of those elements we make in tiny amounts in a big fusion chamber and it almost INSTANTly decays because the nucleus is huge and unstable Name does have a nice ring to it though Unobtainium, without that bit in the film where they explained it's a colloquial term, seems like a lazy cop-out. Couldn't they just think of a nice sequence of syllables with -ite or -ium at the end or something? It's a completely fictional element in a movie about 2% real subject matter anyway.

It would be like oil, humanity relies on it so much everyone already knows what it is when you talk about it so it doesn't need a name. When congress says we need to drill more people don't ask 'drill for what?' cause oil is like oxygen to us.
10, this movie is so good!

I saw it again with my friends the other night and to be honest, I don't get how people are raving about it...I mean yeah the first time I saw it I thought it was OMG SO FUCKING AMAZING BLARHGASDGJNNJSD@##@$ but now that I've seen it the 2nd time all I see is a movie with a quite unoriginal story (But what isn't original in Hollywood these days?), character development was...ok in parts, The "Anti-American" themes are quite blatantly obvious this time [sp] greedy corporation, "Unobtanium", Native American genocide, "fight terror with terror", etc [/sp]. Avatar was quite amazing the first run through sure, but the second time had me doubting that it was a film that actually had any sort of depth to it storywise. It's just a normal "Pocahauntus" story wrapped up in a shiny layer of gorgeous CGI and 3D. Nothing more, nothing less.
You americans are relating to too much to your own history which is only destroying it for yourselves. 'Nuff said.
This came to my mind today, after I saw Tarzan today again (lol childhood memories). A Tarzan movie with the technique used in avatar would be awesome. The jungle, the liana swinging, the gorillas and all that stuff.
Actually Neytiri's necklace uses the same physics simulation software as Tarzan's loincloth
You americans are relating to too much to your own history which is only destroying it for yourselves. 'Nuff said.
That is true but it's kind of hard to NOT think about what the USA has been doing in the past decade or so concerning terrorism, environmentalism, etc when you watch it. I mean yeah there are the themes like "Respect nature, peace with common man, etc" like that but there are some really strong themes against Corporate America and Corporations in general and the Iraqi invasion. You can't deny that James Cameron, one of Hollywoods most well known directors and thinkers, wouldn't just include those kind of themes into this movie thinking that the average American wouldn't be able to catch up on them. Turn Fox news on some time, they all ready think that James Cameron is some sort Anti-American Communist for trying to poison the minds of Americans with his "Liberal propaganda film"

Sequence: Dances with Wolves James Cameron's Avatar Pocahontas He wrote Avatar before Pocahontas, but they're both similar to Dances with Wolves. It was a good movie even if the script is similar to Dances with Wolves. Besides, most movies are rip offs now a days. Now then...Enough with the Pocahontas shit.
It doesn't matter when he wrote it because it sounds like the original script wouldn't be the same.

wheres the option to rate nothing and a half stars because the only thing bluer than the alien dudes were my balls at the end of the movie when I didn't get to see that crip marine fuck a 9-foot tall cat broad and anyway where in the immediate fuck were her nips.
That will be on the DVD shades.
Could've been better if it wasn't released with all of the marketing and shit.
ModestyTech
Pretty sure I saw a "slip" once or twice in Avatar

A part of the script, which will probably end up in some extended cut:
EXT. CITY - NIGHT A SCREECH OF BRAKES as a vehicle WIPES FRAME, revealing -- JAKE SULLY, a scarred and scruffy combat vet, sitting in a beat up carbon-fiber wheelchair. At 22, his eyes are hardened by the wisdom and wariness of one who has endured pain beyond his years. Jake stares upward at the levels of the city. MAGLEV TRAINS WHOOSH overhead on elevated tracks, against a sky of garish advertizing. JAKE (V.O.) They can fix a spinal, if you’ve got the money. But not on vet benefits, not in this economy. The traffic light changes and Jake pushes forward with the crowd, pumping the wheels of his chair. Most of the people wear FILTER MASKS to protect them from the toxic air. In a LONG LENS STACK it is a marching torrent of anonymous, isolated souls.
That sounds horrible [editline]03:49PM[/editline] Also is it bad i have no interest in seeing this movie simply because when i saw an interview about all his movies he never once mentioned Dark Angel?
That sounds horrible
I don't think so, it gives you an idea about how fucked up Earth is.
I meant it very much sounds like the hl2 beta. cameron... have you been googling again young man?
A part of the script, which will probably end up in some extended cut:
That actually sounds really good, apart from all the self-indulgent crap about Jake Sully at the start but that won't matter because it's purely for visual effect on whoever was reading the script way back. Then again, it's really nothing that hasn't been done before.
REmoved the full script, because i'm not sure if i'm allowed to post it at all. A trip to the IMDb forums and you'll probably find it.
Going to see this today, only for the 3D.
Star wars world, meets Pocahontas, meets halo marines. [editline]06:29PM[/editline] I wish I had a better picture of Media'd for size NOT a spoiler
What about that picture?
What about that picture?
I cant find a decent picture of that gun, but I didn't want to post a massive image. So I put it in media tags, which looks like its a spoiler, but it's not.
Ok what I'm not getting is when all the humans came to the tree the arrows could just barely scratch the windows and then suddenly they would break huge holes through them later.
