Oh, yeah, the first game is Aliens. But it branches off as time goes on.
Errrm, not really.
Holy balls against the wall orgasmic visuals batman. Pandora was amazing, I wanna go there.
Pandora was amazing, I wanna go there.
I donno, it doesn't look at that amazing to me. . .
I can see similarities between, this and Halo to an extent, but I wouldn't say one copied another. Don't forget Avatar started development around 10 years ago too, and the Bungie team wouldn't know about Avatar/Avatar team wouldn't know about Halo. I just guess it is a coincidence that they seem very similar. :colbert:
Hi I'm a generic movie watcher and I don't enjoy plot in my movies as long as they have cool effects Movies such as this are killing cinema.
It was worth watching, but I'd give it around a 7. The art and everything is cool, but I absolutely hated the creatures and Na'vi because there's no reason why they would evolve to be that way. Why would all of the animals have an extra pair of legs? It gives no advantages. I did like the flying things though. Didn't like how the forests and everything were mostly green, too. They should have made the forests be a different colour, like red. I don't remember the colour of their sun, I think it was blue though, for some reason. If it was blue then the plants could've been orangish to take advantage of the blue light. The 3D was decent but the movie should have been shot at a higher frame rate. A lot of the very close objects looked very choppy. I loved the use of depth of field with the 3D, it was very nice.
Why so many Disagrees? At least quote and say why.
Spoony has a pretty damn good review/first impressions video of Avatar on his website. The part where he talks about the hardass colonel dude had me in stitches. http://spoonyexperiment.com/2009/12/20/vlog-12-19-09-avatar/

I wanna see this for the effects.

You may remember me from such educational films as Two Minus Three Equals Negative Fun! and Firecrackers: The Silent Killer!
Just saw it today in 3D. One of the most beautiful films I've ever seen.
I saw the film today aswell. I didn`t think it was super amazing like everyone said but I found it very entertaining.
Also I like how a movie with a $300,000,000 budget uses Papyrus font. Actually I nearly cried because of that.
Basically I was torn apart from tacticool marines and trippy Navi'. The whole movie was beautiful.

It offers almost no advantages. A 2-paired legged animal would survive better than a 3-paired. It would survive better because it wouldn't require as much energy to grow.

Things should be believable. I don't ruin anyone's fun though, and I watched it with 4 others. [editline]12:59AM[/editline] I never said it sucked, I was just pointing out what I didn't like about it. It would have been way better, to me, if they had explained the biology of the animals a bit more, or had made them more plausible in the first place.

It takes place in the future where they have spaceships and fight aliens, thus it's science-fiction. Why aren't you complaining of their tentacle hair USB? Why aren't you complaining how unrealistic the planet is? Why aren't you complaining the trees glow green? There's tons of shit to complain about, but you don't do it, you know why? It's a damn fictional movie. When a giant penis monster eats human beings, you don't call that unrealistic or scientifically impossible, you just either hate it or enjoy it because it's a fiction movie.

I talked about the tree colours as well. It is a good movie and is worth watching but the whole "lore" isn't very good. It's more Fantasy with Science-Fiction elements than Science-Fiction.
In Avatar they didn't even establish defined characters, theres a male and female lead, and a bad guy. The rest of the cast are various multi-3d illuminous shades of nothing in the background (/foreground/mid-field).
The first hour and a half was basically character development of the 2 leads, that is a lot of development. You would be lucky to find a fairly recent movie that has more than 5 minutes of this.

Sure, critters like Jaguars get alone just fine here on Earth, but imagine how handy an extra set of legs would be when running through such tangled vegetation. It was so spread-out he must've missed it. :downs:
Went to see this last week and I want to see it again.
Just got back from a private screening of this in Imax, and I could barely sit through the entire movie. After half an hour, I was just waiting for it to end. The plot was completely uninspired, held no surprises, and was almost identical to Pocohontas. Even the 3D wasn't utilised properly, and aside from the first 5 minutes or so, was barely noticable for the rest of the film, aside from in those vomit-inducing vortex scenes. I saw it 2 days go. Was the best shit I've ever seen in a long time. 10/10!
You are late, this was posted a few pages ago.
Sorry, I didn't feel like reading all 832 posts.
I have to say, much to what everyone will rage about, that this was one of the best films I've ever seen, not due to a great plot, just down to the fact that it was immersive enough that I could empathise with the characters, and, while it may not be original, it's still a good story, and makes for a unique perspective on how colonialism brings out the assholes in people. I liked it, so hey.
