Just done reading through the script. Alot of stuff that wasn't in the movie. There will hopefully be an extended DVD/Bluray cut. Got to know that there's actually some "love" going on between Trudy and Norm, Aswell as Jake talking to Tsu'tey while he is [sp]dying on the ground. after the battle[/sp].
Avatar was a great movie and a helluva experience. Definitely not the best movie I've ever seen...I'm not even sure if it would nudge into my top 10. But seeing it in 3D is a game changer for cinema.
As a visual experience, it was great. It was predictable and I knew what was gonna happen but I guess the difference was that I wanted them to happen too. Yeah the plot's thin but as an experience it was good.
The sequel should take place on Earth like the third Planet of the Apes.
Never saw Pocahontas, I thought Avatar had an incredible and original plot, I don't think there are other movies were a guy in a wheel chair goes on another planet and goes into an alien body. Then, he changes sides and tries to stop the military from knocking down a giant tree that the natives live in to harvest a superconducter element from under it. Then they all go to another tree that glows and talk to it, then they all get on flying dragon aliens to go all around the planet to get the other aliens to help then they end up winning with just bow and arrows. Then the humans all go back and he stays with them. also in cgi and 3d. So no, I don't think other movies have this plot. Stop being picky. Sure you can say that the simplified plot is like other movies, but so are most movies. Take super hero movies, they are based off of comics and most have the same basic story and character development and fighting bad guys but look at some of them, which are incredible movies! Sure you could say it's kind of predictable, but you saw the trailer... and it's not a horror movie, there isn't supposed to be a twist.
It was worth watching, but I'd give it around a 7. The art and everything is cool, but I absolutely hated the creatures and Na'vi because there's no reason why they would evolve to be that way. Why would all of the animals have an extra pair of legs? It gives no advantages. I did like the flying things though. Didn't like how the forests and everything were mostly green, too. They should have made the forests be a different colour, like red. I don't remember the colour of their sun, I think it was blue though, for some reason. If it was blue then the plants could've been orangish to take advantage of the blue light. The 3D was decent but the movie should have been shot at a higher frame rate. A lot of the very close objects looked very choppy. I loved the use of depth of field with the 3D, it was very nice.
My only complaint is that some of the animals are too similar to some Earth equivalent. The forests are green because things still have to be fairly familiar to the viewer. It may not make terribly much sense in real scientific terms but it would look awkward if all the flora was a completely different colour to green.
[sp]I felt bad for the banshee that Jake owned before he took the other big banshee. Their link was supposed to be FOREVER :( But I understand the sacrifice he had to make[/sp]
I haven't seen it yet. But it looks extremely predictable. I have to see it soon to clear things up.

Pretty good.

Of all the things you could feel sad about in JUST this one single movie.
Did anyone else feel depressed after seeing this? I know real life has some incredible things, but it just seemed so beautiful and real on Pandora. I almost wish I hadn't seen it.
I felt quite depressed actually. There was an argument between me and some other chode a few pages back on this thread.

Maybe a meadow or a grassy field, sure, but a dense forest with thousands of things to kill you? No thanks. The typical forest scenery doesn't appeal to me. Maybe it's because every camp I took was a disaster. Now, THIS, is a beauty.

Was a pretty good movie but it was just riddled with cliches and just silly things that could've been easily fixed to make the much better than it was. Definitely worth seeing however. It had mech knife fights. I wish they had shown more creativity in the animals/environments on Pandora rather than just terrestrial animals/plants but glowy and with tentacles. Also it pissed me off a lot that the Na'vi looked nothing like anything else that lived on the planet.
I agree, I don't understand how people think its unoriginal.
Just because you don't understand something doesn't make it wrong.
I thought it was a pretty good movie! Predictable yes, but still good! riddled with cliches and silly things as squidbot1 one post above me said indeed. it was very similar to Pochahontas but hey! i liked Pochahontas so why should i not like Avatar? It's kinda like that movie Treasure Planet where they based the movie on the book Treasure Island but made it steampunk science fiction!
Fads of old.
The movie was great. Except for the ducted fan aircraft sounded like helicopters. Helicopters sound like helicopters because the air coming off the tail rotor intersects with the air coming off the main rotor at a perpendicular angle. "Choppers" are called such because the tail rotor air is literally being chopped by the main rotor's air making that distinct chopping sound. It is more pronounced with fewer blades. As such with helicopters that do not use tail rotors, like NOTAR systems or coaxial rotors, the sound they produce is notably different than you would hear from a conventional helicopter design. And those aircraft still use rotors. Ducted fans produce even less noise and a significantly different sound. It just bugged me the amount of work that went into those beautiful aircraft to have some sound guy be a retard.
The weird thing is the wiki says the plants are magenta in color, but they're green in the movie.
Add in the colour of the atmosphere.
sorta upset because i saw it while i was sick, and fell asleep.
Loved it, Gonna go see it again :v:
Good movie, but there was cinema evacuation so I didn't saw the ending. :/
Good movie, but there was cinema evacuation so I didn't saw the ending. :/
For how long did you watch, or which scene?
I agree, I don't understand how people think its unoriginal.
Well, It is a bit like some movies in a simplified plot of people killing for resources and people against them trying to protect them, and it is the basis a few movies, but the way the story is told is very original.
The first movie I have ever seen in which I unwittingly bought into a sappy romance storyline, only to quickly get mental whiplash whilst leaving the theater.
Did anyone else feel depressed after seeing this? I know real life has some incredible things, but it just seemed so beautiful and real on Pandora. I almost wish I hadn't seen it. I haven't felt like this since I read a book series when I was roughly 12. I don't remember its name anymore, but at the end I felt like my life was so meaningless compared to characters who had found themselves and truly discovered who they were. Oh well, it'll pass eventually. I doubt I'll see this again, it would just depress me all over again. Goddamnit.
You get pulled into this world tha's so different and incredible that when it ends, its upsetting, you want to see more of it, you almost want to be there. Thats what makes some movies and books incredible.
