They said the map was an island in the previews, so of course you can.

I thought it was part coastline and part infinite repeating terrain bordering the map?
I thought it was part coastline and part infinite repeating terrain bordering the map?
That was from some old leak. In either the IGN, USA Today, or Kotaku preview (I forgot which) they mentioned it being an island in a passing statement.

This says it all. A little tip, Sargent. Try using the brakes once in a while, you won't hit so many walls! I presume racing games such as Forza got the driving controls so wrong too? I mean, you need to slow down for corners, how unrealistic.
Forza is really great game though, why are you comparing it to GTAIV?

Wow, that looks like it's put together very well. Going to have to get that.
This thread is basically 60% graphic disscussion, 30% questioning/arguing about a pc port, and 10% actually asking reasonable questions that HAVEN'T already been asked before.
But yeah don't want to be a hypocryte so I will say the thing I like the most about this game is the variety of different locations in the game. Gta 4 was just constant cities and you really couldn't tell the difference between each of the islands, while in gta 5, it looks colourful and bright and awesome. Not to mention, it will look even better than in the gta 4 engine. Hnnng.
Every time a new GTA comes out and I see how realistic it is, I cringe in anticipation for the negative attention it'll inevitably receive for being "a cop-killing simulator where you get extra points for killing hookers" and how Johnny shot up his school because he played GTA IV (excusing his mental disorders entirely, of course).
I mean, anyone remember Jack Thompson? Yeah he got disbarred but there are still plenty of nutjobs in the media.

Eh, it didn't really help me, I still found even the most gentle turns at 20 mph made me oversteer like a bitch.

My parents used to think it was a series whose soul objective was "to disrespect women."

At least the multiplayer with trainers is still some of the best fun you can have.

I'm waiting for the "It's not exactly like San Andreas, this game sucks. It should be more like Saints Row" comments to pop up.

This time it will be "It's not exactly like GTA IV, it sucks."
And personally, I love Saints Row 3 but GTA should not turn into it. One can be serious and one can be silly. I'm cool with this.

I can actually imagine people hating on V because it's not ~serious and mature~ enough like IV supposedly was. V doesn't seem to have jetpacks from Area 69 from what we've seen, but it's far from totally grounded and serious, and I can see some people complaining about that because some people just need something to complain about.
Most people will be too busy flipping off burning juggalos and hunting wildlife with miniguns to care, though.

Grand Theft Auto was never even really that serious, it's always had that caricature of stereotypical American life as a strong undercurrent. I mean from what I've played GTA IV had some dark moments but it's never as gut punching as something like in Spec Ops: The Line.
[editline]4th May 2013[/editline]
I mean even in GTA IV it still at least felt like GTA, like you're playing an over the top action flick. There's always that camp factor that never goes away, and I feel like it's integral to the GTA experience.

I like GTA 4 because it was campy and fun while being more grounded in real life. The Euphoria physics were painfully realistic, which made it all the better. It felt really immersive by feeling like I was doing all this crazy shit in a living breathing world.

It's almost like Rockstar is just reading our threads about GTA V and throwing in every feature someone says they wish was in the game. :v:

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't personally think that GTA IV is actually realistic or really grounded (though it does some things to aid the pseudo-realistic feel or whatever, but that's how some people perceive it, and places like gtaforums just love trying to find things to complain about. I'm sure they'll find some way to complain about how V isn't as realistic and therefore Rockstar are big sellout hacks or whatever.
But, at the same time, they might just continue complaining about how GTA isn't Saints Row. Who knows, and more importantly, who cares.
Run and gun?

Honestly I was on the fence before, but somehow they've combined Max Payne, Red Dead Redemption, and GTA into one game and so far it looks damn near flawless. There is literally nothing I have seen that I disapprove of so far.
(Aside from Rockstar skirting around mentioning when we can see a PC release, its inevitable but I just want a date)
Run and gun?

what does run and gun mean? does that mean move while shooting or something? Because I can do that just fine in the latest GTAs.
what does run and gun mean? does that mean move while shooting or something? Because I can do that just fine in the latest GTAs.
If I recall correctly if you start to shoot while running in GTA4 then you slow down, Niko pulls the gun up to his chin, screen zooms in a bit and then you start shooting. Run and gun I'm guessing will be so that none of that happens, you just keep jogging at the exact same pace and you just shoot like nothing. Like in Max Payne 3.
I remember someone mentioning that you could fire a missile, switch characters, and watch the missile fly by and so forth.
If there's character switching at close proximities, imagine the fucking glitch or trick videos you could make with this.

Not only is character switching discussed in the video but it's also written in the OP and the second reply. :v:
I don't get why everyone constantly complains about how Grand Theft Auto IV is shit because it isn't like San Andreas or that Grand Theft Auto V will be shit because it doesn't have something from San Andreas or IV or it's different in any way at all.
Isn't it a good thing that every GTA game is different? If you want San Andreas, play San Andreas. Not every Grand Theft Auto game has to be like San Andreas, and not every GTA game should.
It's the New Super Mario Bros thing. It's the same thing each time and people fucking complain, but then in GTA it's completely different each generation (Except GTA/GTA 2, they were like exactly the same in terms of gameplay) and everyone complains about them being different.
GTA V is coming out. It will change major things from San Andreas and IV. This is a good thing. If you want San Andreas, play San Andreas. If you want IV, play IV.
If you want San Andreas/IV stuff in GTA V, i'm certain there will be a way to mod it in eventually.

This... but to be fair it has cars and radio stations with usualy awesome music, that's what made GTA, GTA for me.

The radio stations were great, but they were merely icing on the cake for me. I'm not a huge fan of GTA IV but I have strangely fond memories of cruising through the nighttime streets of a city listening to Black Devil Disco Club.

People are babies and don't want change, and they don't realize that you can still go back and play the old games if you aren't fond of the new ones.
I for one think that change is good between games. GTA's done it right, because each game has the same basic formula but does something differently.
