It does really make you feel tiny, though. The sun seems like just this boiling little ball, bubbling and swirling and steaming, floating in the vast nothingness. And our planet would be decimated 500 times over, instantaneously, by a blast like that. Even if it did actually occur over several hours.

And, since gas closer together / under more pressure would get hotter, it's inconceivable as to how stars could form. I mean, even if you did get them to condense, they would just get really hot and move away from each other! Once you get past that hurdle, next you have to find out how the thing ignited!
