I'm afraid to open my window to see pigs flying. This is one sequel I NEVER saw coming.
Hey, you remember how the original show had that distinctive cast of immediately recognisable characters?

I don't think FLCL 2 remembers because this is the epitome of bland and generic and she could be from damn near anything.

It's weird because the few other characters shown stick out a lot more, including her not-Naota classmate who echoes the original series' style (not to mention Haruko being pretty damn accurate in her own right).
I get the feeling the character's supposed to be a generic, mundane person in a crazy series of circumstances, and thus her generic look reflects it.

just noticed baseball player and the cat in the background
Probably not. Pretty much everyone involved has enough money to do whatever they want in terms of a series. Odds are that the few people involved in the original on this sorta wanted to do something else with the universe.
FLCL was a complete take per the creators. Muh Nostalgias cannot a compelling series make.

This is what worries me the most about this new series, the character designs don't feel as stylized and unique as they were in the original. What he have here just feels really "generic" for lack of a better term and I'm skeptical on this now because of it.
It's really weird because Haruko retains her stylized appearance but the other characters seem to be a bit out of place (or is it the other way around?)
Edit:
Robots look cool tho
tbh not having watched flcl yet makes me a bad person
I tried watching it, but it seems you need to be drunk or on crack to understand its in the same vein as evangelion which I also cannot comprehende.

It doesn't have a deep story at all, that's not the point. And it's not trying to be 2deep4u like Evangelion.

Good video if you don't know what FLCL is all about
FLCL was always one of my favorite shows. The story, characters, and music I loved and could relate to. Looking back I can understand why I could love the show. And why in some way could relate to the story and main character.
Please don't make it an American dub they are so fucking cringe.

You have clearly never seen the English dub of FLCL then, it was awesome

It's going to air simultaneously in both English and Japanese dubs like Space Dandy
I'm somewhat optimistic for this given Adult Swim's fairly good track record with revivals of beloved series and content blocks (Family Guy, Futurama, Toonami), especially given their focusing on putting out more higher-production-value shows after Rick and Morty's successes.

I prefer watching the dub actually. Lets me attention to the animation.

Depends highly on the show and the budget. FLCL had an amazing dub.
Space Dandy and Cowboy Bebop also had amazing dubs.

I think it's a little early to say the characters look too generic. I mean, take a screengrab of Mamimi out of context and she would look like a regular-ass schoolgirl like 5,000 other animes have

Context is everything. And FLCL randomly varied its art style so much that even the ridiculous characters had moments of looking relatively realistic, while at other times devolving into a literal South Park parody.
I don't see how FLCL needs sequels
