Couple of things I find weird/scary about it.
Look at that couple. Do they honestly look like the kind of people who get up one day and decide 'lets scam the entire world by writing a bullcrap story about a haunted house..oh and we have to move into the house first so it sounds legit'. They moved into this nice house, so they must have been secure financially. And then to leave the house without taking all their stuff...even if they did make a lot of money off the story they would have left behind a lot too, it's a pretty big house.
Why a red eyed pig? Why not a ghost of one of the victims? a PIG?
That picture. Look at it. It look like a photoshop, and that's the only picture the kid appears in. If you were going to hoax it, why stop at one?
Photoshop in 1976? God.. The rest of the post is fucking stupid, aswell.
The renovation of the house was completely useless. You can still recognize it from it's distinct roof. Expect that the house isn't even that popular anymore.
Edit:
I find the Winchester Mystery House more intriguing because it's so pointless, most of the stairs there don't even lead anywhere.
Bitch who owned it was crazy and heard voices, thinking the ghosts of everyone who was ever killed by a Winchester rifle would haunt her unless she kept building onto her house.
Woo, so much better than a murder.
I've been there in person before. Amityville is mere miles away from my house.

Looks can be deceiving, and perhaps they did have a true story to tell, but they added a LOT more and the author of the book admitted that most, if not all of it was fiction, but he didn't care because he became rich for it.
Why a red eyed pig? Why not a ghost of one of the victims? a PIG?
The Lutzes apparently had a cat that George called a pig because he was fat, and the cat's eyes had a red tint reflected off of its eyes
when it looked through the windows of the house at night from outside. Proof of this was in the young Lutz girl's drawings.

This picture is the only really puzzling thing because it's actual visual evidence of something. It's not photoshopped, like one of the above posters said it was taken in '76. They could have edited the photo, though it is still strange, considering if it isn't edited, then how could that boy's eyes be glowing? Red eye in photos does not cover the entire opening of the eye, only the iris and pupil areas. Second, you cannot see a body below the railing in between the bars. The other photos showed the same background behind the railing bars as this one.
A bunch flies at a window= evil?
Why do people have connections with flies as being evil, they're natural as any other animal.
They claimed the flies were gathering in the middle of winter in one window in one room, and no matter how many times they killed them more would re-appear. I don't find flies as being connected with evil but that would be a bit strange.
I love the eminem song with the same title.
though it has nothing to do with these murders and it's vile.
Being from Long Island, my grandmother has a house on Amityville and I've seen the house quite often.
It's actually really freaky to think about; I don't know any sane person that would want to live in that house.

This is fucking creepy and sick.
That picture creeps the shit out of me also.

I am really intrigued by the Amityville story, When i head over on holiday to America im heading down the new England coast just to see that house lol, i think it would be so fucking cool.
[editline]08:32PM[/editline]
Also all these people who claim they live within "miles" of the house, go take a video of you outside the house, either that or a pic of you in front of the house, with a piece of paper with timestamp and your fp login name.

Fly love rotting meat, and things that are dead/festering/rotting, when people die and it's unknown, they rot, thus attracting flies.
That's my take anyways
My house is haunted.
Yeah, it's true.
would you make a thread about it? i love reading about people's personal experiances.
This is my kind of thread.
It's a shame it was a hoax. The the Lutz's confirmed this by saying they were in need of money and their marriage was on the rocks, so they came up with the elaborate story to earn money.

if people are still posting, why can't I?
I live in Long Island and I have been there a few times, not inside. I don't live close to it though and I am not old enough to drive, so I can't just can't get proof. I went last Halloween with my dad and the house has been changed up a bit. My guess is so people don't bother with it. My dad told me when he was younger, he was sneaking around the house and a huge dog chased him. He then jumped into his car ( Window down). Funny, when we went my dad heard a dog barking from that house. There was also a bar close by, that the guy went to after he killed his family. I drove by there a few times or so before it got removed.
Anyways, I know of a house that is pretty damn scary buy nothing so much like Amityville Horror house. The house I am talking about is the Devil House, pretty close to AV:HH

do tell.
the Devil House? Well, its nothing like Amityville:Horror, with the murders and getting a movie. The house is like a mansion but all red. Including the sidewalk in front of the house, not anywhere else. There is huge black iron gates and candles in the windows. In the back there is a huge wooden fence and on the top of that, there is wire so you can't get over. My dad said that he did climb it when he was a kid and saw a sacrifice pit in the back. You know, where they throw shit in.They also have this really old car that they keep under a tarp at all times. Last Halloween, me and my dad drove by and there were police barricades, with a note saying " Property on Nassau County police". Then my dad honked the horn and some old guy came out. He turned on the sprinklers and aimed them to us. as we drove away, my dad called him a sonofabitch. Another story my dad told me was that him and his friends ( When they were younger ) lit blockbusters of in there yard at 3 in the morning and they were chased by them in that old car.
That is pretty much it, all I know of at least. I think a woman lives there too. A long time ago, when I was younger. My parents drove by on Halloween and people were trick or treating there, and the lady was yelling at them.
There is indeed a legend there though. If you have, say 4 people in the car and look at the candles in the back of the house. One for each person in the car, I just read that and heard it from a friend. There is only one more legend that I heard about on Long Island and that is it
