Okay after the cop's got the situation under control and the dude cuffed it really looked like they were over-reacting a bit, especially since apparently the guy wasn't even under arrest (just being driven home as a courtesy). I mean the dude wasn't even struggling or anything yet they were on him as if he was trying to get away or something.
Like was it really nessicary to grab and strangle the dude by the neck as well as drag him out of the car like a ragdoll

Put yourself in their situation for a second, they pick up this guy, who's clearly intoxicated, they offer to drive him home (don't know if that was really the case but whatever, hypothetical situation), and the dude attempts to brandish a firearm on them.
When a gun is involved, there's no "going easy" on them, it doesn't matter if he wasn't struggling or anything, you take ZERO chances when a gun is brought into the situation.
Regardless, they were stupid for not performing a thorough search before allowing him in the back of the cruiser. I don't know a single state where it's not standard protocol to fully search someone before placing them in the car. It's their own damn fault and they're lucky he dropped it.
Here in Australia most cops are pretty sweet dudes.
A friend of mine was walking down to the liquor store at night with a beer in his hand and police pulled up and asked why he was drinking in public. They told him he had to go back home but he constantly refused cause he wanted to buy a carton of beer. In the end they put him in the back of the car drove him to the store waited for him to come back out with his drinks and drove him back home so he wouldn't be a drunk nuisance in public.
that very smart of them
Those of you who are saying it was harsh how they treated him, even after he was cuffed; he was being given a courtesy ride home and then, he pulls a gun.
If the two officers would've not seen the gun, they would be dead today. As said above, adrenaline can also come into very strong effect.
I mean, it did seem harsh but I don't blame them. The guy was going to shoot them, so they were pretty angered.
Once a gun is involved, there is no being nice. "Okay, now give me the gun Jerome :) There you go! Alright, now sit tight."
According to the video description they were taking the guy home as a courtesy.
maybe what he was doing was part of a gang initiation?
As someone said earlier I think he was trying to ditch the gun because he was drunk as tits and forgot he had a gun on him. So drunk logic ensued and he concluded the cops might somehow find out about it and he was trying to discreetly ditch it
Also I don't blame the cop for seeming harsh, from his perspective some motherfucker just tried to kill him so I'm sure he got frightened that he almost died and pissed at the guy for doing it
