I have a 5D mark II (camera used in 24, House MD, Saturday Night Live e.t.c.) with a Sumo II and full VMK, alongside a three year video education, After Effects and such. I'd love to make a dance video some day. Shame I live in Norway then, I'll have to find someone who can dance like a badass over here instead.
i dont know about little stigmas in here about what style to dance or not to but how does one go about learning to do tecktonik and various shuffles?
Learning from friends is the best way. Youtube when you are at home and none of your friends can come over. That's how I learned how to dance, slow process I guess but I'm just not as dedicated as before.

I learned tecktonik from my brother. I saw him do it, and I imitated him to the best of my ability. then he corrected me in what I was doing wrong. I'd say we're pretty equal on skill level of tecktonik now. Youtube is a great place to learn how to teckt.
For shuffling, I'd say Melbshuffle.com They have forum for each region of the world. So you can find shufflers near you. They can help you learn. But once again. youtube is a great place to get started. There are also tutorials posted in the forum. The community there is pretty tight, they're always willing to answer questions if you have any. I'm no professional shuffler, so if you have a question about shuffling, they're the ones to go to.
Once you start, don't give up. Keep at it. The beginning is the hardest, but once you perfect the basics, you can pretty much dominate the dance floor.
Anyone know any good dance songs? I was thinking that regulars here should just post some of their favorites every once in a while to keep this thread alive.

Sometimes if my parents aren't home and I'm bored, I go into the spacious basement, plug in my iPod, and just start dancing. :kickingrad:

Dutch house, great for tecktonik. You can also shuffle to electro, but I prefer French, prog or electro house for shuffling.
This mix has great Dutch house tracks, the transition from songs to songs are good enough where you can just dance through them.

Also. 15:02. Electro and dubstep cameo is ear sex.

dont blame you im so ~so fine~
Anybody here know how to groove to dubstep? I feel like movements would have to be planned for each song rather than acting upon your own doing. Like hip-hop dancing (to an extent of something similar to actually having to choreograph something)

Guacamole is better
Yeah that's one reason why I dislike dubstep. And no salsa is better, as in the sauce.

You can turf to it though
Whats turf?
Well I think it's also called tutting, my friend is an amateur in it.

(not him by the way)
[editline]31st March 2011[/editline]
It's because my friend who tuts/turfs whatever loves dubstep and I think he dances to it once in a while.
that looks stupid as shit
I dance whenever I have the opportunity which is pretty much every fri/saturday night, I don't take classes or anything so I don't know jack shit about dancing styles I just drop to the floor like an epileptic

Tutting is awesome, I can now do freestyle tutting :)
lol I think to dance to dubstep you have to get a choreo. Unless you know the song. All i've seen from dubstep is hiphop choreos

also, I've never heard of the term turfing, but tutting is cool if you do it right. It was originally a funkstyle from popping, now people take it to dubstep because they don't really have a dubstep dance yet
best tutting freestyle you'll ever see

Nam Hyun Joon, fucking awesome
Actually reading this thread I now realize what I do is some pretty basic tektonic and when I'm in a gayer mood some even more basic liquid
that looks stupid as shit
Cool
80% percent of my moves are directly stolen from Saturday Night Fever though, also the reason I smoke.
Stolen a few from dirty dancing too
Oh tutting. I do tutting bro. I've tried doing hip hop moves to dubstep. Choreographing sucks man.

lol liquid > tektonic
though tektonic is a dance and liquid is just a style
also, I dunno but a few of my friends who dance tektonic say that its actually called electro dance.

The styles are pretty similar except liquid is about being literally one smooth motherfucker while tectonic is for the more upbeat stuff. For instance: I've just gotten home from at fantastic night at a club and while I could have probably busted a variety of sick liquid moves the mood at the dance floor wasn't quite for it, so I kept to my damn near manic tectonic moves and had a lot more success finding women to dance with and even catching one that was kind enough to show me the women's bathroom :v:
