its fucking embarrassing. and no, "faggot" is still very much being targeted at homosexuals.
Nothing embarrassing about it. I say it, my friends say it, my black friends laugh at it. Tell me how wrong it is. I wouldn't use it in public but this word on the internet means nothing.
When you call a person a nigger because theyre black, thats when it's real shit. Until then, its just another insult, instead of racism imo. I can sense the outrage coming but i dont think he deserves it for this.

I wouldn't use it in public but this word on the internet means nothing.
its especially embarrassing if youre say, over 20 and still do it. i did it myself when i was a teenager and i feel gross about it. it just reeks of "i dont put any thought into the shit i let out of my mouth" i guess what im trying to say is that it's ignorant and immature.
I say nigger all the time and I wish people would stop caring when it's used in a context devoid of any intent racism. I mean, we mostly got over "faggot" being related to homosexuals, how long until this one too?
Words are defined by their usage, and so far "nigger" and "faggot" have had way more use as racist and homophobic insults

I guess you guys don't understand, but the way I see it, using it casually helps strip the word from its racist connotation. Eventually people will get over it, like it happened with other insults in the past. Like "cunt", that people use for men too. Just a matter of time. Because just on the internet, I wouldn't be so sure.
id much prefer we just ditched those shitty words into history.
Good luck with that. The more you make a word "forbidden" the more offensive it gets and the more usage it sees.
Do you mean everything globally considered or just on the internet? Because just on the internet, I wouldn't be so sure.
dude, i also don't really care about these words or whatever but let's be honest here. just because you and your friends use it and you guys are cool about it, it doesn't mean that a shit ton of people (specifically on the internet lol) aren't using it as racist slur.
This reminds me of the faggot South Park episode.

A bunch of gamers getting mad and calling people niggers isn't going to strip the word of its meaning
dude, i also don't really care about these words or whatever but let's be honest here. just because you and your friends use it and you guys are cool about it, it doesn't mean that a shit ton of people (specifically on the internet lol) aren't using it as racist slur.
don't be a fag about it
Good luck with that. The more you make a word "forbidden" the more offensive it gets and the more usage it sees.
who said anything about making it forbidden? you can say those words all you want, no one can stop you. i just wish people more commonly acknowledged the negative connotations of those words and how shitty they are and wouldn't use them by choice, because they don't want to come across as ignorant tits.
I still find it confusing why this is a forbidden word like can you hate a man for a single word instead of his intentions
dude, i also don't really care about these words or whatever but let's be honest here. just because you and your friends use it and you guys are cool about it, it doesn't mean that a shit ton of people (specifically on the internet lol) aren't using it as racist slur.
I didn't imply the contrary, just that there is a far larger proportion of people using those words without meaning to offend on the internet than in real life.
I still find it confusing why this is a forbidden word like can you hate a man for a single word instead of his intentions
i don't need to check twitter to know pewdiepie has been called racist for this already
I didn't imply the contrary, just that there is a far larger proportion of people using those niggers without meaning to offend on the internet than in real life.
lol i get what you were trying to say here but since you didn't have "niggers" in "quote" the sentence sounds really wrong.
This is so naive. A bunch of gamers getting mad and calling people niggers isn't going to strip the word of its meaning
You don't get it, no it won't happen any time soon but it's going to go one way or another eventually, in time. It'll take decades probably, so you might see within your lifetime. I sometimes swap words accidentally.
i was kidding dude. :p
You don't get it, no it won't happen any time soon but it's going to go one way or another eventually, in time. It'll take decades probably, so you might see within your lifetime.
this is too optimistic but regardless i don't think this kind of thing is a problem. pewdiepie obviously said it by accident. who cares.
It doesn't matter if you're using it in context of your friends or family or whoever. The word came into being for the purpose of a neutral term and then it became a derogatory, and still is used to degrade people to this day. It doesn't matter if the people around you are desensitized to hearing it, so am I as a person it was aimed at. Doesn't mean I like hearing it and sure as hell doesn't mean I will watch some 20 year old shmuck throw the word around a kid because he wants to take the context and "get over it." That's not how hundreds of years of history work, pal. Bitch, cunt, faggot and whatever else have you are all still vulgar insults too. Parents keep children from saying it, businesses don't appreciate their employees using it on and off the job. It's not professional and it isn't very nice either, so I'd be taking your gold star away for naughty language.

We've had centuries of "nigger" being used as a pejorative (and still see it to this day), and nowhere near the same amount of it being used as an non-racial insult. Though I'd argue these insults aren't really "non-racial" to begin with, since they only came about because of the word's previous, established meaning. Same with faggot. You can't disconnect the two that easily. Yet just last page, you said we're pretty much over "faggot" as a homophobic insult, so which one is it? Does it take time, or not?
press f to pay respects

Does it take time, or not?
I'm guessing it's completely related to how much of a problem in modern society the issue related to the word is. "Nigger" will stop being racist when black people are no longer discriminated against. "Faggot" will turn into a meaningless insult when homophobia is gone. So yes, it'll take a shitload of time, maybe it'll never even happen. But I feel that now's the time to let people insult each other with those names if they want to, in an unoffending context, because that contributes ever so slightly to strip away the offensiveness in the minds of the people around. Too idealistic or progressive? [editline]10th September 2017[/editline]
It doesn't matter if you're using it in context of your friends or family or whoever. This is fucking stupid, why is this such a big deal?
Then where would you use the words if you aren't using them in public? With your friends, who are the ones you are comfortable with saying that alone? On the internet, where the already toxic attitude would just be fed by more people thinking it's cool to just call people it for simply picking a dark skinned character(or in Overwatch's case, a gorilla)? If you aren't gonna use them in public then I am confused because then the entire point of stripping the word's context is pointless since only you and your band of jolly goobers would understand your intention.
nobody would've cared if he said faggot or retard just more fake outrage over the word nigger
Using those words to curse makes you look pretty simple.
This is fucking stupid, why is this such a big deal?
Because if you say Nigger no matter what context of it being used, it means you're a racist. :v: Apparently people tend to throw fucking logic out the window when it comes to people shouting this word. And completely forget that context matters.
who said anything about making it forbidden? you can say those words all you want, no one can stop you. i just wish people more commonly acknowledged the negative connotations of those words and how shitty they are and wouldn't use them by choice, because they don't want to come across as ignorant tits.
That's just not gonna happen atleast for as long as racism is a thing, and even after that still might not happen. And racism's gonna be a thing as long as humans are around, let's be real.

But the internet is full of young people that will eventually shape tomorrow's society and thoughts. I know how ridiculous that sounds, but this is the best way to operate a change in modern English, one so problematic. [editline]10th September 2017[/editline]
cursing in general makes you look simple though
That's extremely dependent on social context.

Then the politicians can quit pitting the minorities against one another.
