Ah, I love GameCopyWorld. Really helps with this archaic limitation that seems to still be built into most games that you still need the disc in the drive to play.
Having a similar problem with my retail copy of Deadspace 2. Release Date Check fails to work the second I hit "Accept" if all else fails, think I'll just give the game to my friend who recently built a PC

However, steam is useless if you don't have an internet connection. I like to have a choice when I buy a retail game (except when it's a valve game) whether to activate it on steam.

That's because he, no joke, absolutely lost it. A year or two back he went mental and went on camera bashing like every other reviewer around. It was depressing. Then he made his Action52 review and you can actually tell during that review that he's just out of it.

Several reasons not to.
Have to wait for it to download, then if you ever want to remove it from your computer to get more space for another game, and then if you ever wanna come back to it, have to download that shit again.
That's just one reason, but it's the best one.
A god damn hero.
DRM has actually stopped me from buying several games I otherwise would have, it's just fucking ridiculous.

I bought Crysis Warhead on steam and after a while it told me that I have used up all the installs when trying to launch the story mode version of the game
I had to contact EA live support to renew the key, and they did. But it's bullshit if you have to contact EA support after reinstalling steam or your os more than 3 times.

Adding it to the Steam version would not decrease pirating AT ALL.. and in the meantime stop legit customers from buying it because they don't want that crap.

you email the publisher and an automated computer resets your install count, yes its a little hassle but people blow it out of proportion.
if the limiter is removed then it becomes easier for people to use the legit cd key to pirate the game
