Hell yeah, It's confirmed, I'm testing! Wait minute... OH FUCK I'M TESTING!
Day of the test, Wish me luck!
u go girl [editline]15th December 2012[/editline] rock that kata
And it's done, And I passed with flying (Green) Colors!
Found out through my Karate instructor that a BJJ Purple belt is interested in renting out the dojo for like 2 nights a week. A lot of things are unknown about how it will go at this point, but at the minimum, my instructor hopes to get current students a discount deal of some sort. It sounds better than what instruction my instructor gives for BJJ, which my instructor kinda unbelievably said that he thinks there's little difference between what he can teach us and what this Purple belt can teach us.....I think I may have been the only one in the room who was doubting that unfortunately. He still hasn't got a Blue belt, and he thinks he's a pretty damn good instructor... I've been thinking about it for quite a while, and I still don't know how I'll do it exactly, but I'm thinking of stopping training at Karate after my Black Belt test, or at least shortly after. My contract pays until September, but I'll prolly do my test around May or June. I really would like to devote more of my time at the MMA gym I was going to, but I still gotta get my life on track. I mean my parents do pay for my Karate tuition, but they will probably will come up with reasons to not pay the MMA gym. I don't know...it is cheaper. But I think they would prefer to have me grow the fuck up and pay for shit on my own. Which I was. As I posted a few months ago, I simply couldn't commit to the MMA gym's contract because I haven't worked since October and it would be bad for me to drop $80 a month when I'm low on money. Though, it might cost around that to take classes with this Purple belt that wants to rent the dojo. I might pay for that since it won't cost me much gas wise, unlike going to the MMA gym.

I will most likely know what the situation is much better towards the end of this month or early next month. I hope they can reach an agreement. Would definitely benefit the school.

im the master
im the master
Oh shit we got an 11th degree Black Belt here. EVERYONE IN ATTENTION STANCE NAOW!
In other news, Besides the master have a facepunch account, There's a two day masters clinic coming up in February, Sounds like a lot of fun, Right? Learning the secrets of the lost leopard? But there are three HUGE problems. 1: It is Arizona, I live in Oregon. 2: My mom is not particularly enthusiastic about me going I can't drive yet and I doubt my dad would be any more happy about taking me, But that can be explained by the fact that... 3: It would cost about 1,000 dollars, Not the clinic it's self but the trip, Once you add in the cost of food, Gas and a hotel it's pretty expensive.
, Sounds like a lot of fun, Right? Learning the secrets of the lost leopard?
this sounds like a really bad jackie chan film
Muay Thai, Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, Starting up Krav Maga, and Yawarajutsu (I use a tactical pen for this and it has alot of purpose on the streets but if you don't have a tactical pen on you or something like that it's useless)
Now that I got my strength training back on track and cardio is in the works, I'm happy to say that I'm getting back into martial arts! Going to avoid the pitfall of spreading myself too thin as I did before, being alright at many things but not particularly proficient at anything. I want to stick to boxing for now to build a good base since I am so out of practice.

That video reminded me there are such things as flyweights :v:. That fight between Might Mouse and whoever....I recall it being pretty unspectacular. Might be recalling wrong, but there's some sort of reason why I don't remember him much. Also, I watched a related video on Johnny Hendricks training....holy shit.
Thinking to start MMA. Opinions?
Thinking of the same, as well.
Thinking to start MMA. Opinions?
I mean, we can't really tell you. My opinion, I loved MMA when I was more active in it. In my opinion, you should really commit yourself to the lifestyle. Get on a good strength, speed and cardio training regiment and find a good school if you can. I'm not able to get to a gym because I live in bumfuck nowhere so I set up my own humble little dojo. I have my gear, gloves, mats and all that and my weight bench so I'm all set up. Now I did MMA for about a year before I dropped all that money, so make sure you like it before you invest in it. Personally, I love it.
Tried out MMA, had my first training session for free. What can I say, the feelings are extremely mixed. I absolutely loved the way the coach hanged me onto others - the training was brutal, and as weird as it sounds, I loved every moment of me getting more tired. But in the end, I just decided that this is entirely not for me. Has too many associations with my Karate Shotokan-Do training, which I got to hate, but the club and the coach were fantastic. Now thinking about lightweight athletics...
So I'm seriously thinking about quitting Krav Maga. Not because of the program itself or the art itself but because the gym in which we are is a greedy bee hive who doesn't give a shit about anything other than making money. So basically since the European Federation is paying rent to stay in that gym. It has become a MacDojo... So basically since Krav Maga became the jewel of the crown there and due to the fact that in our previous room had a Body Combat class before ours (and that class would usually end late enough to take us 10 minutes of the beginning of our class) they moved us to another room. This sounds great so far except this new room used to be the gym's old conference room. Which means that it has a hard wooden floor with the lids from the electric circuitry (i don't know how to say it in English but it's something like this) still showing and ready for someone to fall over them and make a serious injury. It's something like this but obviously covered with the lid. (still dangerous nonetheless) So basically all we have now is a bigger room with a hard dangerous floor, 4 walls and a ceiling. No mirrors, no cushions, no matresses, no punching bags, nothing! I get more bruises from rolling on that floor than in the practice itself. So imagine doing jiu jitsu on a floor like this: So the thing is, this room is at the front of the gym. Since the guys from Jiu Jitsu got out from our gym we are now the main dish, so to say and they decide to put us on display. And I say display because this room has a glass wall in which people can see you from the outside, so yeah, free advertising with no conditions for training. The stadium here actually tried to open a contract with our federation to have classes at the stadium on Saturdays and I was really looking forward to do this but at the last hour our gym gave the federation a better contract and now the Saturday Classes are there. I feel frustrated, I dont know what to do. The stadium is kinda poor but at least has the equipment you need even if it's an old dusty sewed up matress, it's better than a hard dangerous floor. I remember that dojo at the stadium fondly because it was where I learned Aikido... But well, I payed this month and I'm going to complain about it, if nothing's happening I'm leaving it for good. I'm not moving to another federation since they're all MacDojos at KM. So I'm thinking about Muay Thai, Combat Sambo or even MMA... They have great Gyms.
Does anyone else here do Goju-Ryu? [editline]28th February 2013[/editline]
Thinking to start MMA. Opinions?
Just get down to the club and do a trial session. As my Shihan says "A teacher can open the door for you, but you must choose to enter it." Everyone's view will be different. You'll get some guys telling you to go, some saying they had a bad experience and not to go, and all sorts - it's purely down to the individual :)
I'm really sad how my Krav Maga school is gradually turning into a MacDojo. People warned me about it and after a yellow belt, a coach who basically doesn't give a fuck about if we're doing things correctly and not and a gym that rather invest it's money in marketing rather than conditions for the actual students, I'm seriously considering leaving. It saddens me deeply. I've invested money in it, I went to the seminars and I was actually enjoying my progress. Some months for now, their facebook page is going crazy with commercials. Feeding this marketed idea that there's always danger lurking around each corner and that we should be prepared to fight that danger the coolest and meanest way possible. I understand martial arts need a little marketing to attract students, but that philosophy is actually eclipsing the way they are teaching it to students. I don't know if this is happening in other schools of my federation, all I know is that my school only cares about money. Since I hate leaving things unfinished (such as this one), this makes me completely unmotivated to pursue martial arts, fearing that my next choice will be another disappointment.

Not all dojos are bad you know.
Not all dojos are bad you know.
Finding one that isn't seems like a daunting, if not impossible, task.
Finding one that isn't seems like a daunting, if not impossible, task.
When I was looking for dojos the first one I found worked out perfect, Two years later I'm still with it.

In this case the Gym is the problem since it doesn't belong tho my Krav Maga federation. The Federation pays the rent to teach there. I think I'm going for MMA.
