As far as the deadline goes, submissions should be in and finalised by Wednesday. Judging will then take place and the winners will hopefully be announced by Saturday. Bit of a wait, but we've had a lot more submissions than I expected. Hurry up and finish, guys!

Yeah, judging by the number of names on the previous page's list, ya'll are gonna be at it for a while. If you do a Round II, I could hop on the judge panel and give you folks a hand. Unless, of course, the theme you pick sounds totally bitchin' awesome, in which case your panel can go to hell.

Sounds good to me! I kinda want to enter the next one as well, so we'll need a charismatic host to replace me.
[editline]06:12PM[/editline]
also handsome
Oh... Well. Maybe next time, then.
:smith:
I have a feeling I'm going to be scraping the bottom of the barrel... I don't know why...
I've never been one for competition, though. I never enter these things to win - I just enter for fun and for criticism - that's why I keep entering the song-charting contests at the Frets on Fire forums; even though I always scrape the bottom three places, with scores averaging 50%. I do songs I enjoy, and I get (sometimes) helpful criticism.
Can't wait to see the results to this one.
Ah, I've been on a mini-vacation and I'm pleased to see the world didn't fall apart. Things seem to be on track. Nice to see the entries continuing.

UPDATE ON ENTRIES RECEIVED:
The names are in no particular order. If your names not down there, but you submitted a story, something went wrong. Now might be a good time to note that I download the stories daily/bi-daily in case something bad and unpredictable happens.

One person forgot to leave their FP name, the information we have is that the document is called 'Short Survival Story' and the writer is Ukranian (we're keeping email names confidential, btw). Please email us again to claim your story.
Another person forgot to leave their FP name. The title was Colour, and the first line was I did it again. Please Email us again to claim your story.
Your name not up there? I made this post at 6:18 GMT -0.00 on Monday, August 2, if you posted later than that then it won't be on the list. If you did email us earlier than that then something went wrong.
It's an option, but I think it would be better to stick to a general theme. For instance, a writing forum I look at has short story competitions, and they start with a short theme or phrase that the writer has creative freedom over.
For example, this week's theme on their contest is: What the tide brought in.
Previous examples include things such as "Simon Says," or "Unexpected Love," or "A World Without..."
Simple, broad themes that the writers are free to work with in any way they see fit. Next week's is "Dream Turned Reality," which I think sounds awesome. Sticking to themes like this lets the writers work with it in any way they feel comfortable, giving them control over the setting, characters, and plot so long as it remains relevant to the general theme You may want to make a "Theme Suggestion" thread to help think up interesting topics.
If you're wanting some post-apocalyptica, you could use a theme like "the End of Days," or something to that effect.
I think a cool theme would be "Into the Unknown."
What is the name of this forum?
What is the name of this forum?
writingforums.com
Forum's pretty quiet, but it's got some pretty talented writers, and you can get some great critiques on your stories. They've got a system where you have to write two critiques/reviews for other people before you can post your own story for review. It's kind of a hassle, but at least it guarantees that you'll get some feedback on your stories, and it's usually really helpful.
Just look out for the artsy-fartsies who feel that anything without some deeper philosophical meaning is low-brow trash.
Awesome. I just found this thread today, but I have some (unfinished) stories that I might get around to finishing for this.
Would a horror story be acceptable? I read in the post that the genre is "drama." Most of my writing are first-person narratives of encounters with the unexplainable.
Since I can't sleep here's a tip: Saying fuck every 10 words doesn't make your story dark or realistic, it makes it annoying. Good luck and may the best writer win.
Steve the fucking mugger leaned against the fucking wall of a goddamn shittingly dark alley. A woman carrying a bitchly huge purse walked by, and he whispered, "hey, fuckcunt. Digging that shit you fucking got there."
She replies, " you mean this fucking purse? Got it on sale at Sears-and-fucking-Roebuck."

"That's fucking insane", he replied suicidally.
My grip of literature is immense.

Last call for entries is coming soon! We will accept nothing past 14:00 GMT -0.00 ON WEDNESDAY - no changes and no new stories. We will begin reading and judging. We don't know when we expect to have results ready since we've never done this before. But, I want to make sure we have comments for each piece explaining why it did or didn't win with some helpful critique from each judge.

Your name not up there? Sorry, but we gave you a fair amount of time to submit and check that your work was received! The contest has now ended. We will post results when we have them, and will contact everyone individually with comments on their piece. We will also ask each individual if they would like their story published.

What? Sorry, but did you check a clock when you said that? If it's 11:20 when you wrote that post then you are probably referring to eastern time, which is GMT -4.00. Do to your confusion we'll probably be making an exception. You'll know if we did when we give the results of the competition.
o, thnx, story has been sent, enjoy!
I made the best story ever.
I better get a Nobel Peace Price.
I made the best story ever.

That's how it works.
It does if the story is so amazing and sad that everyone decides to stop fighting when they read it.
The only way I can see that happening at the momnet is a story about a planet of puppies ridden with drought, disiese and war that gets invaded and all the puppies die.
Also I like the idea of the broad but confined story themes.
[editline]06:10PM[/editline]
I could post one I did which annoyed my teacher because I twisted the title around so much. Unfortuantely I was 10 when I wrote it. And it's set up as a newspaper article.
What the hell, I'll post my aweful story.
did u get mine?
So basically we where given the title "Blaze Destroys School" for a newspaper article. Here was my work (bare in mind I was 10):
Local billionaire Dash Blaze (head of school board) condemned Zango School to be destroyed! Yesterday on the 20th May 2005 the local billionaire Dash Blaze told the press that he was having Zango School demolished because “There is a shortage of people and low standards.” Many people are outraged at this and are protesting against it.
Mrs.Shwatsnobber, mother of two who go to Zango, said “This is outrageous, my family have been going to Zango for decades and we will not stop now!” But Dash just replies “It’s a rundown old place; it must go.”
It seems to be that the protest may just stop the demolition, but I don’t know who does?
Dear God THAT IS SHIT. The grammar, the consistancy, THE NAMES! I have always had problems with making names but really? How could I use Zango as a school name?
Please, rape the shit out of that story. Pick it apart and shout abuse at me for making it.
