How does it send the wrong message? It's a popular series, a lot of people enjoy it.
A lot of people buy it because they think it's the only good game out there. Activision targets a young demographic with their games by doing extensive and expensive marketing campaigns. For MW2, the launch trailer featured an Eminem song, and it worked so well EA did the same with Battlefield 3 using another rap song.
As mature and dark as call of duty wants to be, it became a franchise for young players who are given oversimplified games without ever knowing there are tons of other games to spend money on that are both cheaper and better. During the last three years, I often went to the local game retailer with a couple friends, and often I had to show them games that they could buy with the money they saved for the new Modern Warfare or Black ops DLC that cost 15€ each, and guess what ? Not only were they happy to get a perfectly fine and full game for 15€ that they liked more than the DLC, but they also didn't even know these games existed before I showed them the box hidden behind piles of boxed CoD DLCs. For them, the universe of gaming was limited to Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty - everything else either sucked or was a rip-off.
Shit, even recently, I showed a friend, who believed Halo was the fastest, most exciting thing a multiplayer game could ever dream to be, Quake III, and he was astonished. He didn't even know the game and never heard of it, though he loved the title because it offered something different and unique that really offered a fast paced action. It doesn't mean he stopped playing Halo and CoD, he just widened his library.
For someone who got offended after being called a tool your post absolutely drips with ad hominem. Just say it already: CoD players are children who are ignorant to the glorious gaming world around them.

Right, just make generalizations where I specifically mention a part of the people buying it.
If you want to invalidate an argument at least try to find something to really invalidate.
Nothing there to invalidate, I just summed up the first two paragraphs where as your third one was a cute story about a friend who didn't know Quake III existed.

I.E you have no point and have no idea how to discuss one's opinion without calling him names.
I didn't call you anything. The first two paragraphs of your post is literally you talking about how young CoD players are which is a pretty sweeping generalization. Instead of beating around the bush you should just say what you mean.
You focus way, WAY too much on arguing with people and can't see the forest for the trees.
Like theres really nothing to your post other than that. I say you shouldn't rip on CoD players because they like CoD and you share a couple stories about friends buying and enjoying games that aren't CoD. What has that got to do with anything?

And again with the generalization you pulled out of your ass. I said a lot of cod players were young, and guess what ? It's fucking true. I'm not generalizing, you're finding something to blame while it's not there in the first place.
Your original message said CoD had success because tons of people enjoyed it, to which I answered CoD has success because tons of people don't know any other game that are more or equally worth the try.

I'd say just as many CoD players are young as any other franchise out there. Dunno why you are so certain a disproportionate amount of younger people play it than any other game. Do you have numbers to back that up, because otherwise it's just a generalization.

Right, same tired argument I've heard before. It can't simply be a popular game just because a lot of people like it, there has to be an ulterior reason. So obviously it's just because a disproportional amount of gamers are ignorant to "better" games.
