Because you don't understand how genetics work. The 2% difference between people and chimps' DNA isn't a measure of intelligence, it just means there's a 2% difference.
The quantum mechanics thing doesn't come from us being 2% different, it comes from us having a brain that's 400% as big. And that difference is relegated to a tiny fraction of a percent of our DNA. If anything, us being mostly related to chimps is WHY we're so smart--apes already have a very powerful brain capable of serious cognitive thought.
Blue whales aren't primates
And they have less gray matter proportional to body mass
Don't try to be smart please

Um yeah it does
TH89 seems to be out of our league.
He must think quantom mechanics to him is as easy as 2 + 2 = 5 to us.
Wait, or was it 2+2=4? I have no idea.
Give me box for sarcasm.
Ironically, human babies are among the stupidest creatures in the animal kingdom.
no they're not, they just have less instincts

Ok. And what else is there for infants?
Being smart in what category? And what do you mean by smart? Able to solve problems well? I guess that can be applied to some people. Socially, humans are mostly quite easily subverted and dull. The intelligent specimens are thus able to use them for their own advantage, becoming figures of power.
However, if a human being has the potential and indeed does manage to develop a sense of individuality and self-awareness, a whole spectrum of possibilities is revealed to it. This allows it (the human being) to discover many new things and solve problems in a more logical, effective manner.
Ok. And what else is there for infants?
cognitive abilities
our infants get object permanence way earlier, and are able to use tools to suit their purposes, which animals, aside from octopi and apes, NEVER gain.
quantum physics is something we got over time, over thousands and thousands of years of other discoveries. it's just research built upon more research, it doesn't make us that much smarter then what we were 10000, it just helps us understand more
read my statement and your answer again- there was no mention of gray matter in relation to genus nor body mass
We are smarter than chimpanzees because we have more gray matter, developed in various ways, than they do
The amount of gray matter a blue whale has no bearing on this in any respect, because it is not an ape. It is a whale
It's like saying a V8 doesn't make a car go faster than a V6 does, because you know of a truck with a V8 that is slow
aka dumb
i'll say it again because, clearly, your ape-esque mind can't grasp my statement
i made no mention in my comment of gray matter in relation to SIZE or GENUS. that means i'm saying that we're indeed smarter cognitively than animals, but your example of "anything with lots of gray matter is smart" was terrible
this explains why you spend your day on an internet forum and not in college- you wouldn't make it a day in biology.

I disagree. Humans display nearly all the social behaviour found among the animal kingdom, from hirearchies to alpha-males to communism. Plus we are the only species to have come up with social democracy and diplomacy.

True, however at birth, humans are fucking idiots. All we have is an attachment to our maternal figure. Later, we gain the ability to use tools, but to babies they are just shiny shapes, much in the same way a baby ( or for that matter adult ) chimpanzee would see it.
Listen, dolphins and monkeys problem is not that they can't communicate their ideas on the theory of relativity, it's that they cannot comprehend it to begin with.
I'm not saying that that's the sole reason for our intelligence, just that that's how we got where we are.

how often do you see baby giraffes using sticks to hit things
you don't, do you? right, then, we have them trumped in early life in cognitive abilities-not instincts-cognitive abilities.

you said "we are smarter than chimps because we have a larger brain than them", which is absolutely untrue considering other animals have larger brains than us

Not really. That's one part of it, but that alone yields nothing but small and fractured tribalistic communities. It is through the passing down of knowledge and the use of tools that we create societies.

Silly person. Giraffes lack opposable tumbs and thus cannot hold sticks.
On a serious note, I'm not saying animals are smarter than us. Quite the opposite, we are leagues ahead of any other creature on this earth. At birth however, human infants lack many of the abilities animals have from birth. Your giraffe cant use a stick, but it can walk after an hour or two.

we learned to communicate BECAUSE of self awareness- which means it all started with self awareness. exactly what i said.
you said "we are smarter than chimps because we have a larger brain than them", which is absolutely untrue considering other animals have larger brains than us
It's not untrue at all. We don't need to consider the size of other animals' brains, because they're not chimps.
You seem to have convinced yourself I suggested that brain mass is an absolute scale of cognitive ability. That would be silly.

that has to do with it having instincts which we no longer need. i've said this ten times, are you blind?

but you DID suggest that. you said that was the only reason.
(which isn't true even if we did take into scale proportion of mass of gray matter to overall mass- for example, the brain stem of a human is more advanced and able to handle far more actions)
