Alright, I was wrong, vocal minority my-ass, these fucking idiots crashed this shit into the ground, I'm out, I'mma go see if there's any boxing on PayPerView or anything, I feel like a candy-ass idiot for even watching the show.
So, as usual, timing comes to bite me in the ass, since a friend came from out of state to stay a week today, and the 'big surprise' that he's been waiting to tell me is that he actually listened to me and got into the show, who was I to say no? And that's when I remembered, who gives a shit about any of the bad fandom, the reason I like this show is because it's just fun in general, who cares if there's porn of it, there's rule 34 on anything and everything, that hasn't stopped me from enjoying it before, so you know what, I'll show this to him, and we'll have a good laugh.
Do people really find this easy to laugh at? I just find it uncomfortable and sad.
Anime conventions I can understand because it's an entire genre, and it's a springboard for lots of clothing / retail / etc stores, and massive amounts of variety in what you can do. I can understand Fur cons on the same level even though I would cry if I were told I had to go to one because they're also an entire, huge genre that's been cultivated over fuckin', like, 20 years now. But Brony cons are stupid. Maybe if it were like "Older males who watch assorted shows that are not aimed at their age group" cons but at the moment I see it as just them deciding that because they've build up steam so fast they just GOTTA have a 'con. All I see at these cons is, really, nothing happening. There are some terrible bands (see "Neighsayers") and some impromptu parties, but it's all thrown together and in all the footage of cons I see it seems like everyone at Brony-cons are just on an endless mission to find something to do, because a convention for a subculture about a single TV show with a very narrow focus rapidly runs out of shit to do.
I'll actually be going to a brony convention in a couple months to show off a game I've been working on. I'm honestly a little scared of what I'll see.
The best analogy I have for the pony fandom is the Touhou fandom. In many ways, the pony show and Touhou are similar but I'll focus exclusively on the fandom side. Similar to Friendship is Magic, there's an entire fandom built out of a single indie game series created by one guy. Since he has a very lax fan material policy, people have run with it. Because of it, Touhou doujins (indie stuff such as art, comics, games, music, etc.) single handedly dominate the Japanese doujin market. So much so that they had to create a separate convention, just for Touhou, called Reitaisai.
Anyways, my point is that just because it focuses on a narrow topic, it doesn't necessarily they'll run out of fan content. In my opinion, there are two things that would devastate (and possibly even kill) the pony fandom: lack of new, official material such as the show being canceled; or Hasbro finally cracking down on fan material. I can almost guarantee that if one of those happens, the pony fandom will shatter.

official merch is laughed at by most of the sane people, and that's part of why hasbro won't crack down on the fan content, especially youtube uploads (like it does with other stuff it owns). Hasbro just doesn't intend on putting out higher quality materials because their target demographic just isn't going to care either way. Letting the fans have fun is great free advertising, and there's no "loss of profit" if someone watches it on youtube because there won't be any DVDs to be making sales that aren't packed as like a single episode that comes with a toy or something. Plus they acknowledge the fact that not everybody has their channel, again with the free boost to advertising
One thing for die-hard fans to worry about is that hasbro has a history of never running the same thing long. It might have age-old brands in MLP and transformers, but they've never let any single series run more than 3 seasons before rebooting it entirely. Transformers hasn't evolved much in recent years but I swear there's been a different style/animation team every time I've checked up on it as of late. Maybe this huge fandom will be its own saving grace and give hasbro reason to keep going, or to produce more specified merch, but I don't think it's likely. Still, some fandoms just won't die. I think I mentioned this already but things like invader zim is still at cult status (though losing steam) and it's been a decade since it aired
I'd be surprised if Hasbro ended up on S3. There's going to be a huge uproar for both haters and fans if that happens. I know it'll happen one day...
Basically, the way I see it anyway, is that the issue arises from when people's lives are consumed with one interest/fandom, slowly taking over their minds until it becomes something that is infused with the very core of their being. It's kind of hard to explain so I'll draw a diagram and it'll get better maybe? Or more confusing. Either way I'm making it.

It's kind of hard to explain I suppose, but basically when any interest directly influences every other interest it gets rather unhealthy. As is the case with most people who consider themselves a "brony". Just liking the show is far from an issue, even going to cons isn't really a big deal, so long as there's an appropriate balance of other things not directly linked back to the single thing.
hating the fandom just because of a few (or an assload) of bad apples is pretty stupid considering some pretty nice stuff has come out of it.
The comic shop hosted one of these brony conventions right across from my college the other day, I know a couple of film students who were going to film a similar style documentary there.
I know one brony on my facebook friend list because we went to primary school, he's a bit creepy but he likes the fandom probably because it's a community where he feels accepted like how we're all on facepunch because we all feel we're connected and share similar interest like gaming.
But I don't mind bronies, as long as they shut their mouths about it and don't brag about the show, it slides past me. But if they constantly go on about how good the show is and how cute the characters are that's where I flip my shit because it gets waaaay out of hand

Are these people really that obsessed?
I see a business opportunity here that Hasbro has failed to take advantage. They should make a new franchise to cater to brony.
Autism is one hell of a disorder. Bronies are creepy and disturbing.
Autism is one hell of a disorder. Bronies are creepy and disturbing.
You people love to link Autism to everything. First was Sonic, then Pokemon, then Gmod videos of TF2, then Minecraft and now My Little Pony.
Do you think the world would be a better place if Autism never existed or is curable? Linking a disease to a fandom is not a fair comparison
Autism is one hell of a disorder. Bronies are creepy and disturbing.
Autism is a tricky word.
It's Escapism.
Well, there is better things to do other than worrying about people's obsession over ponies.
they have a psychological developmental disorder and that causes most of them to not ever pass into what most of us call "adulthood", keeping attitudes we consider childish like ritualistic and obsessive behavior
Obsessive behavior, yes. Somehow staying behaviorally like a child, no.
I've yet to meet an autistic person who acts overly childish. Most of them are extremely mature.
And besides, you're implying being a little childish sometimes is a bad thing.
Why can't you people accept my morbid obsession over a cartoon for 6-10 year old girls?
Oh, that's why.
Ehhh man dude this is gross...
Autism is a tricky word.

do you even know autism is or do you just prattle that word around
Autism is one hell of a disorder. Bronies are creepy and disturbing.
you too

Though you're right on it being a bit dumb that people blame it on just about anything that is socially awkward/obsessive, some symptoms of autism include obsessive interests and behaviors. That, and it's something that intimidates people who are obsessed with it because there are plenty of them who do have autism and as well as that I don't know about you but I probably don't want to be called retarded because I have a interest in something.
I think it's more so that people are looking for a good way to tell someone to go away while at the same time come up with an explanation for something that's very confusing and complex, such as escapism, especially in the form of a children's cartoon.
Can someone tell me the song that plays at the end? The ambient one? I've heard it before but I can't remember it. :v:
Oh god, the hair on the first guy was outrageously greasy.
Autism involves inability to cope in social situations. Does that apply to some of these? Probably, mostly those you see sitting off away from the group. But those bronies who go to a pizza place while singing MLP songs? That is something someone with a socially crippling mental disease would never be able to do. They are jackasses, but they aren't autistic.
Its a really generic insult, that makes no sense in its current usage.

So being a part of a weird fandom makes you a jackass?
So being a part of a weird fandom makes you a jackass?
no dude, he's just calling people who do generally dumb shit jackasses
So being a part of a weird fandom makes you a jackass?
No, but going into Pizza Hut singing WINTER WRAP UP and quizzing the staff there on MLP certainly does.
The one thing I hate about the MLP community but what I also find frightening and worrying at the same time is how some people take too much from the series into real life. Very good example at the start of the video is the guy wearing 'pony ears'.
Or the fact that bronies (which, coincidentally, has got to be the most retarded name for a specific fan I've ever heard) insist on using terms like 'everypony', 'nopony', etcetera. I've yet to hear a brony use one of those words and not make me laugh, it's that silly. In the series, it has a proper context. They're ponies, everypony, makes sense. Talking about it in the real world, oh boy. I honestly don't know what to say about it, it's just THAT stupid.

The bronies I know in university don't say "everypony" or anything the like. I don't think many bronies do, I have yet to hear someone say it out of context.
