What the shit was that.
As an observation I've had (no offence to anyone), going through this thread, the way most of you guys argue about this, there's really no difference between you and the "bronies" in how involved you get with a subject like this.
In society people don't write/say walls upon walls of info they look for, for hours to try to express their opinions on something that apparently doesn't interest them, just to prove something. You go a little too far into it and you end up looking like them yourselves.

in the social larger world there are certain traits which apply to each group. physical attractiveness, social openness, money, status, aspirations.
when you are socially rejected due to physical attractiveness this will certainly affect your social openness, your status, how much money you can make, even your aspirations!
when we can't achieve those traits to establish social connections, we'll look for other ways. this applies to bronies, in which the social circle doesn't rely on stuff like that at all, rather it relies on your specific involvement with the show.
thus socially rejected people will gravitate towards it, and of course it's also an extremely easy group to jettison yourselves towards. compare it to musical hipster or indie-dom, where you basically have to amass huge amounts of pop culture and musical knowledge to be cool.
in a fandom like that, all you need to be cool and feel cool is just be in the know about ponies.
