no no no I'm not denying that lucid dreams happen - I've experienced a few myself (though I can't do it consistently) I was questioning specific parts of the OP - my reasoning was that if one part of it was definitely based upon faulty evidence (the energies part), then how much of the other stuff is? I'm naturally suspicious of dream study because dreams are subjective and cannot be verified or measured externally
Actually, I'm gonna hafta agree there. The problems with validity are, at least with me, solved by objectivity; I took a careful look at everything in the OP, and decided what, in my experience, is in fact accurate. The rest, I leave to others to decide for themselves. And yes, life-force, etc. is kinda hokey as far as I'm concerned, but the context in which it was brought up had some good tips. I agree that changing the feel of a dream is a powerful way to fight nightmares; as to whether this is something that happens in the real world, I'm not gonna even bother guessing. Also, yes, dreams are indeed subjective and cannot be verified or measured externally (except in studying eye movement, but that is quite limited). But so long as humanity has shared experiences (like stressing over tests, or arguing with someone over politics, or even movies), we may share some common aspects between dreams. Obviously, this is not always the case, but hopefully an objective analysis by the dreamer would reveal whether the dream does actually mean something deeper, or whether it's just wish fulfillment. Or do you mean scientific studies about dreaming as opposed to dream interpretation? DERP I THINK

I agree with you, personally. The energy stuff, to me, seems to be the placebo effect. Even though I've had a substantial amount of experience with it myself, I'm okay with that because I know it's not really a thing, it's basically just manipulating brain chemistry. Which is much better and real. But yeah, you're right. Dream Study is...a rather difficult field.
Someone should make a religion based on dreaming. That would not be real of coarse, but it would make people explore there minds capability a little more.
I think some of the Native American tribes had dreams as one of the central concepts of their religion. I suppose that must be the main reason I'm reluctant to divert real effort into inducing lucid dreams
I don't get the vendetta against placebos here. Someone recently told me binaural beats were placebos. Thanks, kid. They were working great for me, and now I can't use them anymore, because the whole placebo effect is gone. Placebos WORK. They aren't myths. Let's say for speculation purposes lucid dreams are group placebos. One person says it, now everyone might believe it. Thus, ruining the other person's fun. It's not like Placebos are a load of shit, like I said, they WORK FOR SOME PEOPLE! If you know something is a placebo, please, don't spoil the movie by adding your own soundtrack. How would you feel if your cancer medicine was working really well, then someone let slip that it was placebo medication?

Hey, look at it from my perspective: whenever I take any medication, or anything to do with the mind like binaural beats or whatever, I'm always consumed with the suspicion that it's a placebo. This causes a lot of stuff to not work for me either.
I saw an episode of american dad which made me laugh Steve was trying to have lucid dreams so Hayley and Roger tricked him in to thinking he was in one and he murdered a girl and broke his legs [editline]20th December 2010[/editline] gonna try wild again should I put on all that "relaxing" stuff on youtube [editline]20th December 2010[/editline] I'm trying wild because it seems the most tame method also you're in a dream at the moment, sam or mike? or liam. or jason? john? chris? lewis?
Fuck. It's so scary when every WILD, the closet door opens and shit flies at me. I know it's not real, but when it happens it feels so real that it scares the shit out of me. It's pretty much ruined a dozen or more otherwise successful WILD attempts in the past few weeks. It keeps happening because I expect it to happen, and I don't really know of a way to stop it other than start doing MILDs and forget about WILDs.
I can never seem to successfully WILD. Every time my alarm wakes me up, I just turn it off, tell myself I'll try to stay conscious, then I just fall back asleep.
Glad you are okay Zin, it would be terrible to lose you. (Both as a knowledgeable advisor, and a good poster. ) Anyways, I'm still having trouble attaining lucidity, but my recall is improving, so hopefully soon I will be able to LD.

Placebo is an interesting thing. You didn't really ruin anything, though. On another note, I just think of it as separate from reality. I can't even make a visible key appear in a lucid dream because I'm too attached to the laws of reality. That being said I did manage to start the hovercar with an invisible key. Just thought I'd try turning air seeing as I couldn't make the damn thing.
god fucking damnit my alarm didn't even wake me up this is why I can't have nice things
Tried WBTB by setting my alarm so that I could watch the eclipse for an hour. Two birds with one stone right? nope: the sky was cloudy so I couldn't see the eclipse and I didn't lucid dream when I went back to bed either :saddowns: [editline]21st December 2010[/editline]
On another note, I just think of it as separate from reality.
who needs keys when you can WALK THROUGH WALLS :science:
You're going to need a keyboard if you want to noclip.
who needs keys when you can WALK THROUGH WALLS :science:
never tried because I haven't been able to remember any dream in a while
how do I keep my headphones on while I sleep I recorded myself saying: "1...You're dreaming 2...You're dreaming 3...You're dreaming This may come as news to you, but you're bloody well dreaming. Do a reality check. Put your tongue through your teeth. Put your finger through your hand. Breath whilst you're holding your breath. Yeah. 1...you're dreaming 3...you're dreaming Oops. miscount. Spin around and clap your hands. Stabilize. 1 you're dreaming 2 you're dreaming 3...you're still dreaming" [editline]21st December 2010[/editline] I love how people on dreamviews treat lucid dreaming like a video game when they troubleshoot it [editline]21st December 2010[/editline] should I just try dild with a lucid mp3 because I fuck up anything and everything alarm wise
I have huge amounts of ghost boob syndrome and it is annoying as hell.
if I manage to become lucid, can I "spawn" people? to further that, could I make a garry's mod-esque spawn menu?
If you play gmod, the spawnmenu and tools and such tend to work in dreams. Also, console commands :smug:
I love how people on dreamviews treat lucid dreaming like a video game when they troubleshoot it
A ton of them think that dream sharing, out of body, astral project, etc are all real but I haven't even read the word subconscious once on that site. I didn't bother because they all seemed dumb about it. I like your recording. I'm gonna try it myself.
anybody above the age of 5 would realize that all of that astral projection shit is fake I know lucid dreams are real though. It's a biproduct of science. Should I try a lucid mp3 on dreamviews? Specifically "Really's Ultimate lucid mp3"
Last night, I had a Star Trek-themed dream. Basically, they were all in a victorian city, but still in the 23rd century. I forget why, but they just were. Kirk did something and he and Spock fell out. They were packing to go their seperate ways and my mission was to make them friends again. Just as they were both ready to leave, my speech about the power of friendship saved the day, then my dad woke me up.
