Write down the fragments, and do the mild stuff like Adamhully posted. Writing down stuff is like when you had to copy all that information in to your book back in high school, it reinforces it in your brain and you remember better afterwards.

Maybe give it more than a week before getting impatient? I'm not trying to judge, but 90% of people who complain have not given it enough time yet.

Lol dream selves
Speaking of recall, I think I'll write down this.
When I was smaller, about 8 or 9, I always used to have a recurring dream where I was sat in my dad's van while he was in the shops, and I always accidentally hit the gearstick or something and the van shot forward and kept driving along the roads by itself. I was very scared and thought it would crash, but I never got to see the end of the dream because it always woke me up.

according to wikipedia if you have a boner when you wake up you're probably in rem

I've also been looking in to VILD. Has anybody here tried it? Is it good? I can visualize fairly well (If I close my eyes and try to remember something a very faint picture seems to form in my head, when I'm relaxed it works better)
Maybe give it more than a week before getting impatient? I'm not trying to judge, but 90% of people who complain have not given it enough time yet.
It's been 10 days and I've only had one dream that I can remember more than one thing about. . . .
I wonder when do they invent a sleep drug that makes you lucid dream?
At 3:00 I'm going to try to use a sound cue to to initiate lucidity. I've got a timer set to go off with a short bell tower chime after the time runs out, but how long should I set the timer for?
[editline]9th February 2011[/editline]
I want to make sure I'm good and in the dream, but I don't want it to be like 2 hours later, if possible.
record yourself saying "You're in a dream" or something instead
Writing this down because I forget things.
Hello. Ive had... a strange dream last night. It started out in my school. I was in the small gym. Gravity was lower. I was running and jumped over 2 girls in the class. I think my backpack nicked one of them. She said "watch it!".
Im in main hall. Dead space "marker" symbols everywhere. Looked like a unitology church. [img_thumb]http://www.downloadatoz.com/resources/201101/pic/1296207131.jpg[/img_thumb]
I was walking around the school down main hall. I turned right. I saw my math teacher. I got some homework from her, and walk out. I get grabbed by 2 people wearing the armor seen above. Someone walks out in front and says "Take him to the lab. This subject needs to be terminated"
Rage mode. Rage. In my dreams, rage is very intense. I see red, I kill everything. I throw the guy on my right arm into the wall sideways. I punch the guy on my left in the face 3 times before pinning him to the wall and smashing his ribs with my palm. I grab the third guy and start punching him in the neck and face, breaking it. 2 guys come running down the hall. I hit the first guy in the chest knocking bone into his heart killing him. I kick the next guy behind him collapsing his lungs. I enter a room to the left. a guy is charging me with a knife. I feel scared. Still filled with rage, I block the knife and stab it into his heart.
Everyone is dead.
I walk back into the classroom. The teacher stands up. I see 2 guys (whose features are blurred) walk around the corner. we talk. I become lucid. I close my eyes.
Im in my old house I havent seen in 6 years. Its day. I walk out. The 2 guys are still with my. They follow me. Their names are trey, the medium size guy. and taylor, the tall guy who frequently switches to a dog and back. I know these people as friends. We walk down my drive way talking about things. I believe these people are my sub. We walk slowly. We comment on the area. I destinctly remember being supprised on how detailed the world was for a dream. I could feel the indevidual rocks under my feet. I remember saying that the road to the right I never went up so thats why I chose not to go to places I dont remember.
We get to the bottom of the sloping street. we turn left. the buildings were "Condemned". Most were collapsed. They were torn down, more or less unusable. I remember us talking about them in detail. Only a few houses from my memory were in working condition. I see the end of our street. I tell my subs "lets get to the end."
as we are walking, my vision is fading to black slowly. I tell them That I am waking up. They say they will see me soon.
Im awake. I recap on the dream. I recap on my entire life.
My eyes began to hurt. They began to water. I close my eyes. I write this down.
Those dreams when you chill out with your sub(s) and just do whatever are my personal favorites.
Ah.... sitting in a lawnchair on the edge of a canal filled with nuclear and biological waste, rusting reactor cores, glowing red with heat and slowly dying. The world has ended. Cities slowly crumble. People are gone. No bodies, just gone. Clouds, however scarce they are, are dark and slightly green. We feel the radiation, not as a bad thing, but as quite possibly the last living thing on earth. A floodgate at the end of the canal opens into a crystal clear lake.
Favorite dream ever.
I wish there was a way to monitor brainwaves during REM and somehow interpret them back into images. The ability to watch back dreams would be amazing.

It'd certainly help with recall.
The only bad thing about becoming lucid, flying, blowing shit up and fucking 20 girls is that you're the only person that will ever see it. Shame mates can't download it from you so they can see what you did :D

I don't want my mates downloading my sexual fantasies.
The next time I go lucid I intend on dancing with the girl with classical music playing in the background.
Mm'kay, gonna make an MP3 where after a certain amount of time there's a chime and a recording of me saying something like, "You're in a dream," or something. How long should I have before the chime kicks in? I was thinking an hour.
hasn't anybody else tried VILD here? I don't want to go on unexplored territory
[editline]9th February 2011[/editline]
yeah this method is like ironically obscure you probably haven't heard of it

There's a possible win-win there though, he might wake up in REM and be able to try wild instead
[editline]9th February 2011[/editline]
I woke up from a loud noise during the night and fell back asleep which lead me to my first LD
Good point. Gonna try WILD again tonight, but properly.

I'm not very good at visualizing stuff, so VILD is not a technique I like using. I've tried it though. The techniques that best work for me are FILD and the classic WILD method.

What's FILD and VILD?
I feel outdated :saddowns:
Yes please, Enlighten the uninformed of what a "VILD" and a "FLID" is please.
Just read about FILD. Now I'm stuck between WILD and FILD tonight. I'll give WILD a go and if it doesn't work i'll just try and get some sleep while doing FILD.
(FILD is where you're moving your fingers ever so slightly often to keep a bit of your brain active allowing you to LD. The good thing about it is it bypasses SP, but 80% of the time the dream starts right where you are in real life, so you have no idea you're dreaming and have to perform a reality check without moving.)
So it starts the same as a WILD but you differ to the WILD when you start to move your fingers, sounds interesting and the best part i see is that it bypasses SP.
I guess I'll try that Saturday night and a WILD Friday night.
But for now I'll focus on Recall.
The other night I dreamed I kidnapped Hideo Kojima and locked him in a shed and demanded he remake MGS4 and make it much more sneaking based.
Funny thing is, I'm not making this shit up.
Here, this might be worth adding to the OP.
Finger Induced Lucid Dream (FILD)
Overview
If you are the type of person who wakes up after a dream in the middle of the night, FILD is perfect for you.
I find that the best thing about FILD for me is that it is simple to get into. It is the perfect method for beginners, as you don't enter Sleep Paralysis, therefore it is much less intimidating.
Preperation
Like all LD methods, you will need to have an average level of dream recall. Personally, the best method to increase dream recall is to make a dream journal. Find a book and a pen, and keep it sitting at your nightside table at night. It also helps if you have a lamp by your bed so you can turn it on right when you wake up. Once you wake up after a dream, the last thing in the world you want to do is turn on a light and start writing in your journal. But the thing is, the longer you wait, the less of the dream you will remember. I remember several instances when I would wake up from a dream being totally tired, and thinking to myself "I'll be able to remember this when I wake up". Sure enough, by the time I woke up, I didn't even remember a little thing from my dream. Persistance is the key.
Getting Into a FILD
Alright, I guess you could do this at any time, or try it when you first go to bed, but it works better when you do it sometime within your REM period (4-6 hours after you fall asleep). Here you have one of three options:
a) You could let your body wake up natrually after a dream
b) Train your body to wake up after a dream
c) Set an alarm to wake you up during your REM period
a) Waking up Naturally
If you chose this option, you most likely wake up after a dream naturally.
This is what I use, and there isn't really much to explain from here.
When you wake naturally, you can follow the directions in the post entitled "What Now".
b) Training Your Body to Wake Up After a Dream
This could be either a very time-consuming process, or it could be a breeze.
This could also be done several ways, but I perfer my own "Water Technique".
Place a glass of water (Juice sometimes works better) on a nightside table, or on the headboard of your bed.
Just make sure it is somewhere that you can easily grab it in the middle of the night.
Make sure you're thirsty when you go to bed, as this is exactly what this technique works on.
When you go to bed, take a big sip of your water/juice.
This will feel really refreshing.
While you are starting to sleep, you should feel a temptation to take a sip of your water/juice.
You can go ahead and do that, but just don't drink it all.
Now in the middle of the night, usually during your REM period, you will wake up to take a sip from your drink.
You can now move on to the next step.
c) Setting Your Alarm
All you really have to do here is set your alarm a few hours after you go to sleep.
The REM period ranges from person to person, but it is usually somewhere in between 4 and 6 hours into your sleep. Thats only when it starts though.
Just set your alarm to whatever you find works best, and then you should be able to move onto the next step.
What Now?
Alright, you have successfully awaken from your REM period. Good job.
Now comes the easy part.
Some people say that you can't move at all.
This would help, as it would get you to sleep sooner, but that isn't really an option if you set your alarm.
There are two types of FILD that you can do:
For the first one, all you have to do, is flick your fingers together. I usually flick my index finger and my middle finger against each other back and forth. This stimilates a part of the brain that keeps your mind awake, but your body asleep.
After a while (sometimes as little as 10 seconds, other times as long as a few minutes) you might start to see some changes in your breathing, or that your eyes are flying around in your head. You may also see some visions flowing past your eyes.
Stick with this a little while, until you are sure that you have entered a dream state.
For the second one, you have to move your fingers ever so slightly. Its like your playing two keys on a piano, but very slightly and slowly.
Some people stretch their fingers out while doing it.
This is wrong, as your fingers have to be relaxed so they are a bit bent like in the picture below:
Correct:

Wrong:

Reality checks have to be a little different in this process, as if you aren't really dreaming, and you lift your head up to do a clock reality check and your still awake, then you have just kissed your LD goodbye.
I find the best RC for me is a breathing one.
Basically close off the nasal passage in the back of your throaght and breathe through your nose. It seems that there is a muscle that stops you from breathing through your nose when this happens. I have also noticed that this muscle automatically blocks the nasal passage when you swallow. Its hard to explain, but you should know what I mean. And remember, False Awakenings are very common with this kind of lucid induction, so be sure to lots of Reality Checks.
All credit goes to Swikity over at the Dreamviews forum for making all of this.
Wouldn't it wake you up? It would probably wake me up if it was a chime or something.
I've tested before what volume of audio will wake me up and have edited it so that it's a bit under that, but still loud enough to affect my dreams, so if I start hearing Big Ben chiming in my dream I'll know.
[editline]9th February 2011[/editline]
I'll also be setting my alarm for relatively early in the morning, so if it doesn't work then I may have another chance. Also, so I can get up early if I decide not to try again.
VILD didn't work last night. I think I should combine FILD and VILD by wiggling my finger to keep me awake to visualize, and then gradually wiggle it slower and slower until I fall asleep
is LD4all full of insufferable pricks like dreamviews or not
