Also, What exactly is sleep paralysis?
Your brain is half asleep, half awake. You wake up normally in your bed, but because your brain is half asleep, your body is still paralyzed completely (brain paralyzes your body when you sleep to prevent flailing around, its natural). And because your brain is half asleep, you see dream images. Horrible dream images and sounds. You will see shit enter your room, demons, monsters, ghosts right in front of your face screaming, while it feels fully real (you are half awake, remember, so it all happens in your room). And you can't move or scream at all. Insects crawling on your face and into your nostrils, basically imagine being in a horror movie while you're unable to move or speak, sometimes even unable to breathe while it all happens around you and to you.
Augmented reality, kinda. Realistic hallucinations superimposed into the real world while your body is paralyzed.
In addition, the paralysis may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger. Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual because of the vividness of such hallucinations. The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful or dream-like objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision. Some scientists have proposed this condition as an explanation for alien abductions and ghostly encounters.
okay I'll stop now
Do they just happen randomly or is there something that triggers them?
Also, If shit hits the wall, Is there any way to quickly get out of a lucid dream?
They often happen if you use the WILD technique, one of the challenges is to learn to ignore the feelings and sounds/hallucinations and keep relaxed to go deeper into the dream and reach a lucid dream.
Made a quick image of my own experiences:

Overall, sleep paralysis is something you WILL encounter at some point in the near or far future, before or after you attain a successful lucid dream. Not always, but sometimes.
About waking up: kill yourself in the dream. Or spin rapidly, that works with me.
[editline]16th October 2010[/editline]
It's a transition stage between awake and dream, you are usually unconscious when dreaming so you don't realize it's happening. So that is why they happen more often with lucid dreams, as you are conscious of the awake->dream or dream->awake transition.
Thanks for the info :D

HAHAHAHA!! I have no idea why, but that horse cracked me up! Yeah, but I ain't trying WILD for a while.. only when I'm ready for it.. which may be a long time.
I think I'll blow my brains out with a pistol in my next lucid. I remember the last time I died in a normal dream, was similar like that but it was a mafioso who shot at my head with a revolver and everything went dark. And I felt my body fall to the ground from a ledge. Felt strange. Then I appeared above the clouds and flew onto a small floating island where some dude was. And that was the afterlife.
But it might be different in lucid dreams, because I know it's a dream unlike the above normal dream where I thought it was real.
Unreasonable fear can be defused by facing up to the source, or going through with the frightening activity, so that you observe that no harm comes to you. In a nightmare, this act of courage can take any form that involves facing the "threat" rather than avoiding it. For example, one young man dreamt of being pursued by a lion. When he had no place left to run, he realized he was dreaming and called to the lion to "come and get him." The challenge turned into a playful wrestling match, and the lion became a sexy woman
ending made me chuckle
it's true though

I tried that a couple days ago. Let me attempt to explain what happened to me.
It happened simultaneously all at once and stretched through eternity. Once I pulled the trigger, I was instantaneously dispersed throughout everything that existed in my dream. That is to say, I became omnipotent. I WAS everything in the dream. I was the buildings on the street, I was the street, I was the air. I was. It was fucking insane.
Imagine when a bomb goes off in a dream. You know how there's a shock wave? (mine are always blue) It was like that. Ground Zero was where I was standing when I shot myself, and the shockwave was me. I was everywhere at the same time.
It's one of the scariest and awe-inspiring things that's ever happened to me. While I was still lucid, I was actually interrupted by the feeling of adrenaline flooding my body while I was sleeping (because of the dream). I went back to the dream, but it was weird. I let it dissolve after that, my brain was just spent.
Sounds interesting.

Imma attempt these too. There's still a couple of months left of 2010, so I think I'll try checking out the asteroid first.
That MIGHT be a dream sign. I don't really know. It's not like a message from your sub or anything, and if it was just a random thing, it wouldn't really be of significance. Still, it's hard to tell from just one dream. See what happens. If it comes up a lot, you'll have your answer.
I'm guessing that'd be full of rust orange, dark yellow, and some light red/pink. maybe some blue. I don't know what you want me to do, though. Interpret your childhood through that picture or something?
Yeah, that's it. I have a work in progress here for the whole color thing, but MSPaint couldn't do what I wanted for it.

Also, I horribly failed when copying my notebook, so it needs to be rotated by 180 degrees.
As for the colors, it seems like that would be perfect. HOW DO YOU DO THAT

That is fantastic. I am definitely trying that.
[editline]17th October 2010[/editline]
I have no idea how I do it either. It confuses me as well.
Let's see...this will probably be wrong. Family member in the military currently/in the past, couple pets, moved once or twice, and you have a sister.
I had another shitty day.

good night.

Have a heart to feel better :3:
So I've finally resorted to coming here. I'm very interested in lucid dreaming, because I have always had the biggest imagination. It would be amazing to take all of the little things that I have made up in my head (medieval battles, vehicles that don't exist) and actually bring them to a sort of "reality". I understand that starting with things of that magnitude would probably end up in disaster. Where would I go to start learning how to lucid dream?
Also, this is kind of random but I usually get sleep paralysis once a month. It happens most often if I have an irregular sleep schedule. One time it happened to me 3 times in one morning. The funny thing is, nothing scary ever shows up when I'm paralyzed. I'm honestly so awake that I can tell what's happening and I get angry that I have to deal with 5 minutes or so of sleep paralysis.
I'm new to all of this, but I have a reoccurring "thing" in the dreams that I can remember.
In many of my dreams, new and old, I cannot speak, when I realize I can't talk I try to scream but no sound emits from my mouth, it almost feels like I'm suffocating. Many of these instances occur when I am trying to warn friends and/or family of impending danger, it's like they're all oblivious to my warnings. I usually wake up before anything bad happens.
I am never lucid dreaming again. I saw myself in a mirror, and I looked like one of jewdozers drawings. Fuck.
The strange thing for me when it comes to lucidity, is that I can NEVER seem to actually control anything. Every dream for me is like watching a movie while strapped to a chair. I just watch everything happen, and I can't come to do any reality checks or other realization tricks, even though I haven't gotten into the habit yet.
I've only achieved lucidity once by accident, and even then I couldn't change my surroundings, only move, talk, and conjure small objects.
same thing with me. i cant fight. when i punch something, or kick, i feel like im kicking or punching through thick water. its hard to describe. when i attack, i have no power.
The earliest dream I remember, though I don't remember how long ago I had this dream, is where me and my family were watching a movie. I didn't care about this movie at all for whatever reason, so I looked out the window nearby, which is common practice, as I peer through windows all the time and I greatly enjoy doing so. Outside was my backyard, only it was extended, and the fences in between my neighbors' houses were gone, but as I looked outside I saw a black man-like figure dashing towards my home. I don't know who/what it was, but it struck fear within me, and I instinctively tried to warn my parents. They ignored me completely, and I realized I could not talk, and then I tried screaming, as I tried this, I began to get light-headed, it felt like I was out of breathe and I couldn't get enough air to let out any type of sound. I started to panic, and then I woke up.
I don't like these dreams as much as I don't like the dreams that seem so real that I have a tough time determining what did and didn't happen the day the dream revolved around.
Well mine are normally very complex and contain scenes that surpass any I have seen in a video game.
Some are more complex then others, while one might be mundane and sitting a computer others will be far more complex within my dreams i see a completely different city, all the same places but more bottomless pits and generally larger along more complexness.
I should also mention that I have trouble falling asleep.
It usually takes me an hour or more of just laying in bed relaxed to actually fall asleep, without a melatonin pill.
I think i had my first lucid dream last night

Next time, you either start grabbing something, or rub your hands when you become lucid.
Had a lucid dream last night but forgot to stabilize it with hand rubbing and I woke up after three seconds.
Better luck next time.
Does solid_jake still post his dreams?
I find them fascinating
He doesn't.
Aww
I still dont know what i will do first if a get another LD, last night was free-funning
I attempted a mix of MILD and WILD last night, I set my alarm for 3 hours after I would fall asleep, and before I did I repeated "I will realize I am dreaming" over and over again. Sadly, my sister was still up and talking on the phone for a while, but near the end I felt paralyzed, and like I was falling into my bed. Slowly descending.
Then I woke up, tried WILD.
I had a lucid dream, I just realized, but I didn't realize I was in control till the end, and then I woke up.\
Ami doinitrite?
Yeah
Make sure to rub yous hands together when you realize its a dream
Uh, ok. Thanks for the tip, and nice song.
I wonder what would happen if you appeared into a maze with mirrors instead of walls..
I had my longest lucid dream last night, errbody!

Dream Music (if you're actually planning on reading this long ass dream):

I realized I was lucid dreaming after many regular dreams that night. It came to me as I was standing on my porch with my friend Nick, who was standing (creepily) close next to me. I don't think I can ever get tired of this feeling. It's like breaking through a wall or the biggest V8 moment in history. In my last LD, I rubbed my hands, but didn't say "Clarity Now!". In that dream it was very blurry. So this time, I rubbed my hands and said "Clarity Now!" about three times. It was a definite improvement, but I still need to practice controlling my LD's so I can et a near perfect "quality" like real life. I go inside my house and I walk to my parent's room. I think a little girl was there (who wasn't my sister), but none of my parents or anything. Seeing no other reason to be there (Why I didn't go in my room, I have no idea. I'm too excited to do other things.) I go outside (Nick's gone for some reason) and I begin to look at the sky (Orkel said it looked beautiful). It was! It was a psychedelic cyan/teal looking sky. The clouds were almost invisible and they moved pretty fast. A jet was soaring above and I saw it ripping the air in two as it did. It then began to land right past my house. A couple streets down. I jumped and knowing from a last lucid dream I had I knew I was going to jump high, but not THIS high. I was really high up in the air, everything was slightly foggy below. "This is one way to conquer your fears through a dream, I guess.."
"Flying seems pretty important to lucid dreamers, so I better learn it now..", I said.. I chose where I wanted to fly (that's how I controlled it), but when I wanted to stop I kept flying for 10 ft or so. Sometimes, I hit the ground from over-estimating a stop, but I laughed in my dream because it didn't hurt. I landed by my house to continue exploring. Suddenly, my vision, something was wrong, I started to go blind! My vision was going blurry slowly from the bottom up. So I tried to rub my hands, but it didn't do anything. I was now truly blind with my mind trying to rip me out of the dream. Spinning was my last option. I spun as fast as I could until I could feel my mind clearing up. I opened my eyes...I could see! I was back in control, it worked!
I shook my head and thanked myself I was still in my dream. I walked by the tree at my house and I saw this chick (I will call J) from my school walking ahead of me. J waved. I decided to test another thing: Super speed. I ran at her moving my legs as fast as I could, hoping for a sudden change in speed and then...FWOOOOSH. I slammed right into J and we rolled a good 20 ft down the sidewalk. She landed on top of me (:smug:). "Sorry about that, lol." I said dizzily. "Haha, it's cool!" It started to snow. I really wish I payed more attention to textures and details during my dreams. I stared back at J. "..." "..."
(*Cut from FP edition*)
Now it was time to explore the jet! However, I think I may have ADD in my dreams because I noticed an apartment complex and decided to explore that instead. Why did I pick that over a GOD DAMN JET! I could have flown it and everything. Ughhh, whatever. Anyways, you know what these kind of apartments look like! The ones where all the apartments look the same (brick and tall) and are bunched up really close. It was getting very snowy around me, however I didn't feel cold. I met some Asian dude and there was this black guy far ahead of us. I guess he was evil because I summoned a sword and we both charged at him. I was ahead though because of my badass super speed. This black dude was kicking our ass though. The Asian was knocked down and so was I. He turned his attention to me and I'm not sure what happened, but I suddenly was looking over Earth. Not like a space view, but a geographical view, and I could pick any place I wanted! So I was looking at some Hispanic countries, saw some kids playing baseball, and then...my dream ended.
TL;DR: I had my longest lucid dream yet and did some shit.
Side note: At one point in my dream I could hear music playing. I don't remember what it was, but it was faint and recognizable. I wanted to change it and the song DID change. However, as I focused on other things, the sound of the music soon disappeared and I forgot it.
same thing with me. i cant fight. when i punch something, or kick, i feel like im kicking or punching through thick water. its hard to describe. when i attack, i have no power
Wow, I'm glad other people deal with this. In one of my recent dreams I flanked someone my friend was fighting with a bat and swung as hard as I could at him. Either it missed him by inches all the time or it just made a slight tap against his head when I did. So the whole dream I was running away from this dude who was throwing these giant nail like things at me when I had a screwdriver and knife to use. When I did try to use those before I could only use them to scare him. Any damage I did to him was either a little hole or cut.
