So what? In dreams, you don't physically control every aspect of it, so how characters react in your dreams are the way your dreaming, subconscious mind wants them to act. Yes, perhaps people only dream about their subconscious as a personified form because of this thread, but at the same time, who's to say what people gain from it isn't real? Because that's what really matters.
is it normal if when im just about to fall asleep i hear a fucked up 8bit beeping sound and it scares the fuck out of me?
Me too!
I had a dream about an hour ago. This is the first I've recorded in a while.
There was more before this, but the first part I remember is that I was at my friend, Justin's house and we were on his computer doing crap. We then stumbled upon this awesome game that we played (some platform-type game) for a while. Suddenly, I was sucked into the game and played it as if I was there. After some time, I was sucked out into a room I had never seen before. There was a girl there that I didn't recognize. We talked for a while like we knew each other, then I was teleported back to my house and on my computer. I remembered a friend that I hadn't talked to for a few months, but had been trying to. She had posted a video on her profile (some weird site nobody has heard of) , so I decided to look at it. It was her, and a few friends. I recognized her as the girl I had just talked to. They walked out of what looked like her bedroom, the same room as earlier, and went to some kind of stage play at their school. Whoever was holding the camera was operating the spotlight at the top of the theater. (This was probably incorporated because I'm in my school's Stage Technician Crew, that operates the lights and sounds) Suddenly, a huge storm with a tornado swept through and destroyed the place. The scene switched to them in their house drying off and someone saying, that they had to clean the whole place. My friend agreed to come with her. The video ended. I set off for that school in the hopes of meeting her there, since we hadn't talked for months and months. None of them were anywhere in sight. I cleaned the entire stage and realized I was in a dream. The same storm swept by and I flew into it, waking me up.
I need to talk to her again.
Edit : I just thought of this. That girl and her friends were probably my brain's compilation of the hottest blondes I've seen in the past year. (They were hot)
I can remember this one dream so well cause it was probably the most frightened I have ever been in my life. I use to borrow a shitload of UFO books from the library, never read another after this night. The dream was, I am lying in bed and I wake up to the door open and the hallway glowing a bright light. A little midget alien screaming at the top of his lungs runs up to the side of my bed and falls over retardedly. I guess what would be an adult alien walked in after him. I woke sitting straight up. I hate dreams that happen in my bed, so hard to tell that they are dreams :(
Had one short lucid last night, I realized it was a dream when I talked about some people about dreams, which made me do a reality check and wham. Didn't last for long though, forgot to stabilize.
In my dream, I start out in an enourmous underground flatgrassy place- like an indoor feild, with big metal rusting rafters. the roof is very high.
My father is there, working on some kind of forge-looking machine.
I am able to fly by kicking off of the ground, and it seems completely natural- like jumping off the bottom of a swimming pool!
I ask my father how I am able to fly. (Through this dream I am unaware that I am dreaming.) He says that I can fly because I am a centurion, (See Spirit of the Century) but have more strengths as well.
Perhaps this is my sunconcious, telling me I should have more self esteem?
I don't know, that stuff's way beyond me.
Then I fly around for a while, and find myself flying above a huge city.
I fly down to an alleyway, and see a shady-looking man enter an old door. I fly back up again.
Now I'm less flying than walking through the air, grabbing onto some kind of invisible safety rail.
I'm far above a huge bridge, and kicking off of this surface in the air might not work- I could fall!
So I am concentrating on where the bridge meets the land, calculating where I will land exactly, being very careful.
Suddenly, I find myself exactly where I was focusing on- I teleported!
I'm outside of a little grocery store, and a woman I loosely know in real life is there.
I don't know her name, but she's aqquainted with my mother.
She's drinking some kind of juice, and I grab it from her and take a sip.
"That's good, where did you get it?" I say.
She points toward the grocery store.
I go in, and ask the woman behind the counter what type of juice she reccomends.
She says the papaya is the best, so she rings it up.
It's $1, but I don't have enough- then suddenly it's $199!
I panic, and run out of the store.
Now I'm at some kind of dock with picnic tables on it. My mother is there, kniting and talking to some other women.
One of my best friends is rolling around in a puddle, spouting gibberish.
This is actually normal for him, so I ignore it.
Then I go in the water, and there's a huge drill there! It's drilling up and down right next to me, and seems to be made out of spiky driftwood. I avoid it. Then from behind a rocky outcrop, a long pale worm comes- I look around the other side, and discover it's actually a lizard!
Then it runs past me, and turns into a softshell turtle.
I give it a scritch on its chin, and the turtle greatly enjoys this.
Then I wake up.
Eating a banana before you sleep really improves your recall- I almost never remember dreams, certainly not in this detail!
Right, let's start answering some questions. Starting from page 76.
How do I enter a lucid state after coming to the conclusion that I am probably dreaming?
A lot of times, if I stay up until ~3AM on the computer doing absolutely nothing but browsing random forums or playing video games, I have vivid, realistic dreams shortly after falling asleep in which I am back on my computer fucking around. I usually look at a clock and say "oh shit it's 4AM!," then remember that I already went to bed.
However, I'm never able to do anything. Like when I realize I'm dreaming, I'm in my room, and I try to change the scenery by closing my eyes, but the last time I did that I ended up waking up when I opened them instead.
Start doing reality checks in daily life. Eventually they'll pass over. I wish it was easier than that, but it's really not. Eventually you'll become more aware of your surroundings and you'll be able to transition quickly and effectively. Basically, start questioning reality. If you see something unusual and you can't explain it, do a reality check.
I think theres some sort of connection between my emotions and which side I sleep on.
...havnt quite figured it out yet.
I know this isn't a question, but I like it and I will respond anyway.
They've done studies, believe it or not. Generally people that sleep on their backs have more neutral dreams, whereas people that sleep on their right sides are more likely to have safe, comforting dreams. Those that sleep on their left sides are more likely to have exciting dreams, and are also roughly three times more likely to have a nightmare.
hey Zin, I have a lot of dreams where Im stuck in 3rd person view of a driving car (video game style). My last two LD's I have lost lucidity to this fact. Any advise on how I can keep lucidity in this situation?
Question the fact that you're in third person? Not sure. Third person's surprisingly hard to keep lucid, I've lost dreams like that myself.
I have just noticed something wrong and would like this problem to cease.
In my last 2 nights I attempted WILD, staying still and numb as someone should be but then shit happens.
On the first night, it feels like some animal is drooling some very acidic drool on my cheek. Painful as fuck. Decided to give up WILD for the night.
On the second night, it felt like someone was cutting my right eye vertically, and deeply. Fucking ouch, also gave up here, but the pain lasted a good 10 minutes before going away.
Zin is this some sort of anti lucidity defence for some shit?
I've heard of some people having some really intense SP before the transition. That may have been your brain telling you to not go lucid and just fall asleep. Which is unusual, but not unheard of. My guess is you have some...interesting...issues and your brain doesn't want to deal with them right now. But that's probably wrong.
Had Exploding Head Syndrome Sunday morning. Had a series of short naps and, just dozing after the one, there was a not unpleasant -just surprising - crushing then exploding sensation, followed by a popping noise. Having checked my head was all present and correct, I laid back thinking how bizarre it was. Why, in nature, would we EVER need to experience a head mush in order to wake us up in the morning?!
That's not what EHS is. EHS is basically hearing an explosion of noise inside your head, not an exploding sensation. Picture the loudest noise you've ever heard, multiply that by three, and then imagine hearing that at completely random times. It's terrible.
What happened to you was probably something harmless. Not sure WHAT, though.
So all I remember about my dream last night is that I was playing the Sims, only my Sim's bills were late because of how long it's been since I've played it. If you figure out what that's telling me, you get a cookie.
It's sad, though... I thought I would LD because of an epiphany I had (about my lack of LDs), but nothing changed... which I guess is probably more annoying to my sub, who still has been unable to say whatever it is it wants to tell me. Guess the epiphany was all in my head after all... derp
Also, I woke up with a cramp in my arm and a bloody scratch on the bridge of my nose. I hate mysterious nighttime injuries...
Also, really tough questions all of a sudden... what's that about?
That's your brain telling you you should play the Sims because you miss it.
Sorry for the long post, but I need some advice.
Backstory: My sub's been wanting to tell me something, but a part of myself doesn't want it to be shared. Also, I had an LD a few days back where my sub manifested as a cult dedicated to me (that can't be interpreted badly at all, amirite :D), and gave me a wand that gives me 3 wishes. I wished for more LDs, and my other two wishes were rejected, though not spent. So yesterday I was thinking "Couldn't I wish to open up communications with that one part of me?" To which my sub was like, no, not really, since it didn't really want to talk. I had some idea of what its issue was, though, so I proposed provoking it into communication, and though my sub figured it would definitely result in nightmares, it figured it wouldn't be too bad (since I don't typically have much emotional transfer between sleep and wakefulness). So this is what happened last night:
Nightmare themes: Vehicles, Severe weather, Possibly alienating people?
Definitely a lot of dreaming for a mere 5 hours of sleep, as far as how much I normally dream...
The Jew thing was because of my Medieval Christianity class doing a segment on treatment of Jews, which church doctrine specifically made tolerances for; i.e. they were officially protected, but in reality it depended where, and over time people grew more racist. Hence the people trying to find me, and the people who didn't really share their sentiment. Then again, they didn't help either, so...
God, this is a monster post. Sorry about that, but I need some advice from Zin or others. Should I continue trying to facilitate communication (however negative) with this weird part of me, or might I open up a can of worms from hell? I wasn't really bothered by the nightmares at all, so that isn't a problem; the issue is of what more might happen, if anything. Again, this is not my sub, but it still might do something.... or.... something. It's unlikely considering its apparent isolationism, but until I know what it does, I want to prevent any sort of psychosis.
Alright, ima leave it to you guys now
Even if it DOES open up a can of worms from hell, I say you keep trying. Even if your sub doesn't want to talk, you CAN theoretically force it to. I don't recommend it, but you can do it. Here's how you do it.
Next time you go lucid, give yourself a moment to compose yourself, and then just stand up and yell STOP. You need to will everything to freeze, and it will. Then put yourself in a white room with no walls. Just infinite space. Tell your sub that you're not leaving until you two talk. Then continually try to summon it, eventually it'll work.

In my dreams, I sometimes see shadows in places when I travel off the path of the dream.
Once, became lucid. I was exploring a place i felt i shouldn't. I look at a turned off TV screen. I see shadow people inside staring at me. I then proceed to walk into the TV and then I...... Don't remember, i just had it too.
Another time I was walked through a wall to the outside of my house. it was a nice sunny day. The sky goes dark. The fog was black. And I try to walk down the street. I see shadow people darting from rooftop to rooftop and running across the intersection I was planning to go down. I then got in a car, and i planned to drive around town. I was stopped by my sub, and then woke up.
Zin zinayzen
answer please.

Not sure what's up with that, tbqh. That's...interesting. Try confronting them next time, I suppose? Shadow people aren't unheard of but I'm not aware of the protocol for getting rid of them.

I don't particularly suggest it, and I'm not going to tell you how to do it because it's not healthy.
And yeah, that's pretty normal. Auditory hallucinations happen when you're about to sleep.
Yuss, I'm a girl, and had a really vivid dream I was a guy once. I had like ghost-dick syndrome for the whole of the next day. Was very unsettling.
Also, ffs, my dreams are running like a bad bus system. No dream recollection for the last three days, then bang, two huge dreams -one about the local Tescos being invaded by giant blue electric jellyfish, the other about the TV show Misfits, and bumping into Rupert Grint doing some random underviewed theatre production of something in a back-alley theatre. Also had a pretty bizarre dream fragment about having fucking fangs, then there being a huge cavity in the top of one of them and freaking out about it.
Ghost vagina symptom is annoying as well. You wouldn't think it would be, but when you've spent an entire dream getting...um. Familiar with your own vagina. It's unsettling not having one when you wake up. ...yeah. *cough*
Wow, it is active... anyways, had an LD, need help interpreting. For Ctrl+F purposes, ZINZINZIN
That was pretty much it for that dream, which was the only really important one. There was another about peeing in the shower, but I doubt that was as important.
I took the boxes of boxes to mean that a search for Fraggy Sue would be going around in circles, as also evidenced by the bait-and-switch of the black guy, and Mortal Kombat I guess was about my sub testing my might? I think I'll need some help with the rest.
That's actually pretty interesting. You've met your sub, but you want to meet the part that doesn't want to talk to you? Unusual. Not sure how to approach that situation, actually. Any advice I give is about summoning your SUB, not a specific personification of it. I say ask your sub what's going on, he'll have some advice. Ask him how to find Fraggy Sue. (also. bad name, bro.)
And there. Every question or post I thought was interesting. The only reason I was awake to answer these questions was because I had a dream about my ex that was going in a very bad direction so I made myself get up.

As for Christie, she looked...better. She'd lost some weight and seemed like a nicer person, but I know both of those won't happen because that's not the kind of person she is. I think I was trying to fix her problems in my head to see how it'd be if we'd have stayed together and we both had improved our flaws and situations. But I know damn well that's a bad idea.
later on, it got even weirder. I don't remember what happened, but for some reason we were forced to do "it". We were in the middle of debating how far we'd go when I realized it was tremendously unhealthy and made myself wake up. I didn't know that was possible, but I managed.
God, I know. I was going to say I regretted posting that name after the fact, but the internet went out and by the time I fixed it I forgot. I don't think I was very awake when I came up with that.
So last night I did find what's-her-face, only... well, I don't remember much since I got woken up to shovel the GODDAMNED 3 FEET OF SNOW. I do know that nothing came of it, and she was what can only be described as a moé blob. God I am such a weaboo. Also, my sub was driving me on a highway, through what was implied to be my mind. Yeah, don't remember anything else...
I do kind of like the idea of partitioning one's mind, though; then instead of one big unpredictable blob of awareness, you have discreet sections with relatively predictable wants and needs, and all you need to know is how they interact. I mean, that's clearly just me, and I know it has its downsides (like potential MPD), but I guess I just have really always found splitting up big problems into little problems helpful. Doesn't mean I have less problems, but at least now I can take them on one at a time, right?
Also, thanks for coming back. It must have taken awhile to respond to all of those questions.
It seems now that if I force lucids, I get little control. But if I manage to switch to a lucid from a dream, I have a incredible amount of control.
Edit: Page king! But I got nothin' to show for it.
Had a multi-day (over a day in teh dream in the dream) dream about my parents. Don't remember all the days much at all, but I do remember the last one seeing as it was incredibly emotional. As the dream faded I expected I'd wake up really changed. Didn't have an effect on me.
I had a dream where I was in some MMO, and my grandfather or something in the game wanted me to go somewhere, so I went into this room that had a bunch of papers that were solid helium and other stuff lighter than air, I wrapped it around myself under my shirt and I could fly.
I woke up thinking that it was a real game, then I realized it wasn't and got sad.

That's weird. I've slept on my left side my whole life, and I can't recall more than about 8 full-on nightmares. I would say, however, that my dreams are usually the bizarre/exciting kind. Hell, last night I had a Homestuck battle dream after starting to read it thanks to the thread in GD. Then they uncovered a sock draw filled with kittens in bags...
I havent remembered a dream for a while now.
I attempted FILD last night, got to a point where I started feeling like my finger was stiff as ice and hearing cool buzzing noises (a lot like the skynet sounds from terminator: salvation).
I dont remember anything after that, Im assuming I fell into one of the dream images that come from leaving the radio on while you sleep.
