The fire at Runnymede?
Wait what. What happened?
Wait what. What happened?
Somehow a subway train caught fire. They evacuated the whole station and fucked up subway service for a few hours to investigate. Nobody was hurt.
I heard there was a fire onboard a train. It had to be something serious, because trash fires don't hold up service for hours on end.
At least nobody was hurt.
Hi all, just giving a heads up that I had a hernia surgery yesterday and it went well. Right now I'm in pain and agony and I'm taking special pain medication to ease off the pain a bit. Recovery time is six weeks or more. This was my second serious hernia surgery I had, and it was just as bad as the first one I had in 2012. Have any of you had this before? Hope you all have good long weekend!
So I just found out my old job stiffed me out of overtime pay on multiple occasions. The 6 month statute of limitations ends in 20 days oh god I need to do things.

Time to send this to my Canadian friend...
I'm a Toronto person. Been here a little over a year now. It's alright.
what do you love/hate about toronto?
what do you love/hate about toronto?
Toronto is expensive, and my wallet aches. There's good sushi and plenty of things to do though, as long as you can properly budget yourself and plan for a day. Most places, even cheaper ones can be found not too far off from City Transit so most places are easy to get to. The transit has frequent hiccups because of a large population and continuous construction, with the subway going down the most.
So where exactly in Canada should I be looking for jobs seeing as there's absolutely nothing (not even mcdonald's is hiring in my town, that's really saying something) in Alberta? Anything that's decent paying and gets me out of the shithole that is small town southern Alberta without being an "entry level" job that requires 10 years experience. Preferably a larger city with reliable public transit. [editline]23rd May 2016[/editline] I can't speak a word of French so Quebec is totally out of the question but anywhere else is fair game.

What kind of work are you thinking of?

My only skills are basically research and writing, not exactly an in demand skillset.

Research and Writing sounds like skills for someone that writes articles for the news, whether it's newspaper or online articles. Is Freelance an option?
I guess I could look for newspapers that are hiring, but that's limiting my options quite a bit because I want to get the fuck out of Alberta but I'm also refusing to go anywhere in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, northern Ontario, Quebec, or the Atlantic. I've been living in hick towns forever, I need the big city experience and it sucks that if you want that in Canada you're basically limited to Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal or Calgary. Winnipeg too I guess but Winnipeg doesn't appeal to me at all.

Kingston may not be as big as Ottawa or Toronto, but it's still a large city.
You sure limited your options to southern Ontario or BC. Ever considered one of the diamond mines in the NYT?
You know you can get the big city experience well living outside of the big city. Where I am from there are a lot of cities that are connected by the west coast express. Which all make it to vancouver in depending on where you're going from around an hour or less. All you got to do is move close to the big city which if you do come to BC will save you a lot of money as vancouver is fucking expensive.
You sure limited your options to southern Ontario or BC.
Well yeah, nowhere else in Canada really appeals to me except for Quebec, but I don't speak a word of French. Calgary appeals to me too, but it's not realistic with the way Alberta's economy is going. I'm more interested in the big cities because there's more stuff to do there for when I have free time. I currently live in a city of about 60k in southern Alberta and I have extreme difficulty finding anything to do here, to the point where I've literally left my house like 4 times in the month and a half I've been out of university. Even the city where I went to university where about 90k people live I had trouble finding things to do. [editline]24th May 2016[/editline] I also need to live somewhere where you don't need a car because I'm likely to never have my driver's license, I'm 22 years old and still don't have it because every time I try to drive I get terrible anxiety.
Honestly, after about a month in Barrie I find it hard to imagine living in Toronto again. In spite of T-dot being one of the cleaner cities around, it's just so much nicer out here.

Obviously it's going to be harder to find a job but it's something that can be done. Montreal for example, West island and just about any suburb west of Montreal is almost 100% English.

I need to visit Quebec again. I went to Quebec City in Grade 8 but that's the only time I've been within Canada and outside of Ontario. I've been more places in the US than I have in Canada.

Anime North is going on this weekend in Toronto, time to see 25000 people in one place.
And I'm gonna be one of them.
So at Anime North this year one of the artists had art based on the old Concerned Childrens' Advertisers PSAs. I got $3 off this one by reciting, from memory, the entire House Hippo commercial. [t]http://i.imgur.com/DfbiTol.jpg[/t]
Anime North was fun, I was running around with a camera doing interviews and filming stuff. [t]http://i.imgur.com/U8naZuw.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/R76d3VR.jpg[/t]
Oh My God. The Dollar Tree sells Picard's Peanuts.
