It was a pretty rough time in my life. There was also a lot of alcohol being consumed. I think a day or two later I had another massive mental breakdown and quit my job, slept in my car down on the coast for a few night while trying unsuccessfully to find a place to stay and work and between drinking heavily and watching people have conversations and laugh on Granville street I spent a fair amount of time leaning pretty far over the ledge on the viaducts wondering if I would feel the landing.

Totally summer, everything is on the go during summer and Canada Day is usually a blast.
Though I guess it depends on which part of Canada you want to visit.
If you're going to go during Canada Day, you should go to Ottawa. It's pretty decent there, aside from that Toronto and Vancouver if you want more of a city feel. Algonquin Park areas are nice too, several lodges, camps, etc. there to stay at.
Come on up to Cape Breton if you like history or just scenic views, this place is all about that tourism industry and The Cabot Trail is an absolute must for anybody visiting.

Glad to be out of Annapolis Royal. That place is all flash, no substance. Has a decent history, but it's kind of all it had when I lived there the past 15 years. Everyone was just so nasty for the most part (or downright sweethearts, there was no in between for the 400 people that live there) and not to slander the town all that much (especially since kids from the surrounding area outside of town were there with me), but the schools had so many fucking inbred kids that it was disgusting. The Oval is pretty nice if you enjoy skating, it just recently got updated with new facilities (and is free). There's a fairly decent bar scene most weekends, and mooseheads games are always pretty fun to go to with friends. Outside of that, there's the farmers market at the Waterfront (both Halifax and Dartmouth) every weekend, and the occasional events like the Pop Explosion, The Jazz Fest, and Nocturne fest throughout the year.
Pretty much everywhere you go in Canada is a beautiful place. Plus it's full of great national parks, with so many different types of landscapes.
