Poutine. Gallons of Poutine. You must be our Poutine ambassador and spread the cheesy-gravy-y goodness to the masses around the globe.

Wow. We were all expecting the NDP to take over but the Greens butted them out of their seats each time. In the end we have a liberal majority.

But you're Canadian. You're cool.
If the LCBO employees go on strike Friday right before the long weekend they may find themselves out of their cushy union jobs next election, and in a way I hope they do, liquor prices are absurd here, privatization, even if the taxes don't change, would help that greatly.
I also fail to see why a union needs to run radio ads. Your dispute is between your employees and your employer, not the rest of us. IMO, if a union can afford to run ads, they're collecting too much in union dues, because if they have that much extra cash it should be going back to the members anyways, not being wasted on ads.

3 fucking goals in two minutes, how could boston get 3 dam goals in two minutes? All they had to do was bunch up in front of the net and play defensive for two minutes and they would have had them beat.

Felt the earthquake a bit in Sudbury. I work on the 6th floor, so there was a bit of movement. Unfortunately, not enough to be sent home.

I was scanning old documents all day at work, got through a bunch of episodes of This Week in Computer Hardware, This American Life, Radiolab and Stuff You Should Know. Can't complain at all, $$$
we've been dating for about a week, but she decided to end it because of one of those jocks at school. fucking asshole... then i watched bowling for columbine and I just don't know anymore..
I cannot believe how much of a shit frenzy the media has to try and hate on Rob Ford. There's allegations that there's a video that apparently only 2 people have seen, one from the Toronto Star (who is known to hate Ford) and the other from Gawker, that shows the mayor smoking crack, and the media at large is acting as if he walked intro the middle of a hockey game and lit up a pipe on centre ice. It's ridiculous how much shit they will cause to hate on him that they're busting a nut over unproven allegations of a video that may not even exist, whose possible existence can only be credited to a reporter/correspondent of newspaper that hates Ford and a website about gossip.
It's national news too, was hearing about it on Vancouver radio...

No kidding. They've been reporting on it for the past few days in Winnipeg along with the Senate scandal.
Oh gee, Gawker can't find the person selling the video of Rob Ford smoking crack, how inconvenient...
The guy wanted something like $400000 for the video.
They even had a segment about it on The Daily Show and Conan joked about it in his monologue, kind of ridiculous.

So they had Doors Open Toronto today, and I went to look at Lower Bay station, since it's the only TTC Station you can't normally go to. It basically looks the same as Upper Bay, except as if it hasn't been maintained since the '60s. They had 2 trains there, one old and one new, and I got to see how the trains work, so that was cool, and I also got to walk the whole length of one of the old trains, which you normally can't due since you're not supposed to open the doors between cars. They also had a video running of all the movies that has used Lower Bay as a set, including RE: Retribution and Total Recall. I never thought I'd find a TTC Station to be interesting, but Lower Bay was pretty interesting.

Ottawa is just now beginning construction on the new line of LRT that has been -finally- approved by City Council. I doubt it will be as nice or as interesting as anything in a bigger city though. I imagine the final product will be quite spartan. I've heard Moscow has a few extraordinary stations, and a lot that are total rubbish. I think it would be interesting to see someday.
The Confederation Line is going to move east-west through Ottawa's downtown, and they're beginning to dig sections of it now. They hope to have it all done in 5 years or so; I'm hopeful for 10. I should say that Ottawa already has an LRT line that runs north-south; I live close to the southern terminus at Greenboro, and it runs through Carleton University, where I go to school. It's quite useful, but it's out of service this summer for maintenance on the track. The reason there was such a delay between the inception of the first line and the second was because the north-south line already existed, they just had to repair it to get it working. The original plan was to extend the north-south line even further south to the airport, and then west across the Rideau River to a suburb called Barrhaven. Even though this extension was the cheapest option of the bunch, it was defeated by incoming mayor (at the time) Larry O'Brian and the majority of city council because most of the city lives in the east and west, and not in the south, whom it would have benefited the most. Thus a 5+ year long legal and council battle began to cancel that project, and plan the east-west line. We are still waiting.
They're changing all of the OC Transpo (Ottawa-Carleton, named after the old county) decor, as you can tell from the pictures. The old red curvy roofs will be replaced by the ultra-modern glass facades we all seem to accept these days, inspite of the fact that they will undoubtedly not age well.
[t]http://www.nileguide.com/destination/blog/ottawa/files/2010/08/Transitway-map2.jpg[/t]
This is the Transitway as it stands; the new LRT will go between Tunney's Pasture and Blair.
That looks like it provides far better coverage than the TTC. Here's what the TTC currently has for subways/LRT:

Now since this image, the Sheppard line is finished, and almost never used. The Scarborough RT shuts down in a snowstorm and for a while after, and they're building a subway extension on top of Downsview into Vaughan. They've also got a dedicated streetcar track along St. Clair, and are building LRTs along Eglinton and Lawrence, both of which should have been a subway.
Here's a link to a full TTC route map:
http://www.ttc.ca/Routes/General_Information/Maps/System.jsp
The TTC is heavily biased for service in the centre of the city, and provides really shitty service to Etobicoke and Scarborough. Now Etobicoke is a fairly high-end suburb, and most people drive anyways, so they don't care. Scarborough, however, is largely a giant ghetto, where people want better transit so they can go somewhere that's not Scarborough. The city, however, has been trying as best as they can to fuck over Scarborough when it comes to transit; failing to give them any form of reliable transit lines, ignoring the desire for the Eglinton and Lawrence LRTs to be subways, and not extending the Sheppard line to the Scarborough Town Centre. Now there's a proposal put forth to demolish the SRT and replace it with a Bloor-Danforth subway extension, which s probably what they should have fucking done in the '80s when the built the damn RT. The worst parts of the city for transit are the northeast and northwest, where it can sometimes take 2 hours just to get to the subway, let alone your destination.
The line in the middle of the city that loops around, the Yonge-University-Spadina line, is also way too close together, the Yonge line runs all up Yonge street, and about 4 blocks away the University-Spadina line runs the same way. They're so close together I don't know why they didn't spread them both out and build a line going straight down on Bay, which would have been able to accomplish the tasks of both lines, rather than having 2 lines be about 4 blocks from each other.
Toronto is a urban sprawl nightmare. The North American Style suburbs put too much stress on the highways, and the subway system is under developed.
Vancouver has a "better" system:

Issues also come from an increasing urban sprawl, although city planning is much better than Toronto's IMO.
Current expansion plans:

Drivers in Alberta are awesome.. except for the rampant drunk driving.
Isn't there a train in Vancouver that can't go over a bridge when it snows?
