Isn't there a train in Vancouver that can't go over a bridge when it snows?
The Canada Line. Was designed to connect Little Beijing (Richmond) and the airport with the city. Because of time constraints brought on by the olympics they cut some serious corners so it has severe operating problems and cannot be expanded without some fairly massive rebuilding of the tracks and stations.
There was also a scandal that came out of the name. Back in the 80's when the SkyTrain was built the province signed a contract saying that all SkyTrain materials and construction would be done by canadian companies exclusively. To get around this and use cheaper overseas services they named it the Canada Line instead.

Turns out it was just a pressure cooker filled with random bits that ended up turning my <15 minute commute home into about an hour and a half because they closed one of the biggest roads lol

You're stealing New Glasgows warmth
we want it back
It got over 30 in Toronto today.
Also, I'm contemplating taking some vacation before school this year, and I wanted to think domestic as well as international. I've already been to Quebec City, Ottawa, Thunder Bay, and Kingston, and I live in Toronto, so I'm not really interested in any of those places. I've been thinking about Montreal and the East Coast, maybe both, but I don't know what to do in either of them, but I'd be open to hearing about Out West. So, can anybody tell me why I should come tour their city, and if it would be under $1500? You're currently competing with Iceland.
Come to the east coast
Places like Peggys Cove are beautiful, plus accommodations aren't that expensive

But what is there to do? That's the biggest issue I have is planning an itinerary, and carrying it out. I want to know what there is to do, so I don't just drive halfway across the country and sit in a hotel room browsing Facepunch, I can do that at home.

Visit me so I can disagree with your politics!

We can go get a bar riled up in a big political debate, which is constantly interrupted by shouting at a TV with hockey on.

It'll just be like sitting in the House of Commons!

Come over to Vancouver, we have mountains, rivers, ocean, wine, and me!
@Oogala
Move me to Vancouver on the list. I'll be heading back to Toronto in late August or early September.
Anyone live in Fredericton or gonna be around for Animaritimes? Just moved in earlier this week to my new apartment. Pretty hyped, the city seems so busy compared to where I lived before but its nice, so many students around and such.

I still live in a town with a population of 3300, can I join you?
In other news, I got phished and I'm pretty sure it was from a Starbucks. They are the only place that still has a debit system without a bolted-down, hardwired connection, or chip reader.
It fucking snowed here yesterday, now its nice and sunny today.
What's a Canada
What's a Canada
I don't even know what street Canada is on.

A place where poutine is mined out of the ground.

So so far nobody's listed any notable attractions other than political arguments in this country, so Iceland is still at the top of my vacation list.
I've also realized Canadians get ridiculously cheap deals on resorts in Cuba, so I think I know what I'm doing this winter.
June 7th and its going to be 18. What the fuck.
So Gawker has said the Rob Ford video is "gone." Gee, it's almost like it never existed in the first place...
[editline]5th June 2013[/editline]
And I can't help but wonder why no news site was questioning Gawker deliberately claiming to want to funnel $200,000 right into the hands of Toronto drug dealers, supporting crime in this city in the most direct way possible.

I read somewhere (The Post? Globe? If I find it in a reliable source I'll post it) that one of the men who has something to do with the alleged video was murdered recently - either gang violence or a political hit, yet unknown.
I think what actually bothered me the most about all of this was that Gawker was willing to pay for the evidence. Paying for evidence is one of the biggest taboos in Canadian journalism; maybe the only up-side to its holier-than-thou outlook on its role in society. Gawker may be American, but are we really that different?

Here's what I'm thinking of, from The Globe.
Canadian media is pretty much owned by American media conglomerates.
I'm allowed to vote next year, but I know fuck all about Canadian politics becides you vote for some scrub in your district and he or she gets a seat in parliament and then whoever has majority in parliament is supreme ruler.
I am probably wrong on all that because I slept through Social studies 11 most of the time, but anyways is there like a non-bias accurate website about what all the parties in Canada stand for.

Being an NDP supporter in Alberta. :downs:

On the topic of politics. A dozen stories on Conservatives being corrupt today. Speaker of the house hiding evidence too.
I will never vote conservative or anything on the very right or very left.
I'm stuck in the middle
Got one of these recently:

Has an automatic winding system similar to this:

It's hypnotizing to shake it around while looking at the weight.
So uh can someone tell me about this thing in British Columbia about this 10 year contract
My teacher was speaking about how it's much easier to fire teachers now and stuff, and how it just generally screws teachers and students over.
Because I'm going into grade 12 next year and thats the year where it's really fucking bad to have bullshit happen to the education system
Your teacher is probably just over exaggerating something because it cuts back on their sick days or something, like the teachers in Ontario did calling the Liberal's education bill "undemocratic" because it stopped them from banking a year's worth of sick days and then cashing them in on retirement, essentially meaning we were paying some teachers to not work for a year.
