I wish Halifax still had it's Ikea. Now I have to go all the way to Quebec for my meatball/furniture fix. Last time I went to Ikea was on a family vacation. My mum promised us that she'd only stay inside the Burlington Ikea for 45 minutes. An hour and a half later she's practically pulling my brother and I out of the store. I wanted far too many things in that store.
I'm back in Halifax today after my trip to America. America is weird.
Also, OP is updated yet again. Might add an FAQ section about Canada, suggestions for questions?
Last time I was in Toronto I spent 2 hours in the Vaughn Ikea, love that store. I plan on driving to Montreal to buy furniture from them when I move out. Also those meatballs
Is it true that man will invent a FTL drive before the Maple Leafs win another Stanley cup?
I'm a Sens fan, and I have to say if they can't do it this year then yes, yes FTL will come first.

Only messing around man. Although last time I was up north was when I chilled in yellowknife for a few years which was interesting. There was some cool stuff like being snowmobiled to school and visiting Old Town to buy fudge. One of the most interesting bits about living in yellowknife was living by Rat Lake which was right beside this sort of cliff face. When I was young I use to go exploring past the cliffs into this forest and one day I finally reached the end and came across this huge body of water which I thought was like a hidden ocean (I was really young). Then when I came home I was told there was bears and wolverines living there so no more exploring for me. Interent was very slow up north until my final few years there we got high speed.

I think any answer including the word "Yes" has to have a huge asterisk beside it with a caption underneath saying "except Toronto".

I lived in Labrador for a year, I know that feel. I miss snowmobiles though, it doesn't really happen in NS, we have snow on the ground for usually only a week maximum.

As a Sens fan, and someone who loves Newfoundland, this is soooo close to home.
So the Ontario nanny state is trying to tell parents how to raise their kids by trying to ban food due to child obesity. Rather than blaming the parents, and possibly the ridiculous protectionist ideas that keep kids from being active because "they may get hurt", they're blaming the food.
Fucking good
But it would be better to subsidize healthy food by taxing junk food out the ass so the end result is healthy food being cheaper than junk food
Governments tend to get the taxing part right but forget about the subsidizing part and it just fucks over the poor
[editline]6th March 2013[/editline]
Although I agree banning and such is BS and people seriously need to learn how to parent a lot of food is pretty screwed up.
Most sweet things contain fructose or glucose-fructose as a sweetener. Your body doesn't process fructose sugar the same as glucose and more commonly stores it rather than processing for energy. Fructose also doesn't set off the same reactions in the brain to say "I have consumed calories, you may stop eating now"
But yeah it's still mostly the parents fault. Just saying the food does have some blame, but if you teach your kid to eat properly that wouldn't really be a problem anyway.
Junk food is aggressively marketed towards children using manipulative advertising tactics and produced in the unhealthiest ways possible to keep it cheaper than healthy alternatives - and to maximize addictiveness while minimizing the food's ability to actually make you feel full
Junk food producers are as culpable for obesity as tobacco companies are for lung cancer, in my opinion, and should be held equally responsible.
The government has its nose in enough places it doesn't belong, it doesn't need to tell people how to live their damn lives.
I updated the OP again!
[editline]6th March 2013[/editline]
IMO I don't think we should be taxing junkfood, but instead just banning advertisements of the product on TV aimed at under 12 kids. Schools should serve lunches that are healthier and more balanced, dumping soda machines.

What about a proper nutritional studies course in HS?
No, not a cooking class, more similar to a dumbed down version of:

Btw, care to move the list of Canadian FPers to a Google docs of some sort so newbies to the thread doesn't have to scroll through all of that?
