Cold. Gonna get colder by 10 degrees tomorrow.
Fuck, really? Not again.
The snow has severed contact with the outside world save for my internet connection. Stores have been looted, the local government has collapsed, people have frozen. My neighbour down the street declared himself king. He exiled political dissidents, as he calls them, to the white wasteland, and torched their houses to keep warm. This may be the last time I post in this thread, as I must renounce my Canadian citizenship or face a similar fate.
Someone wake me up when the Canadian dollar isn't shit pls

So I guess I'm just staying home tomorrow.

Why the fuck is our dollar so low now? Isn't the US technically in a worse financial position than we are?

the price of oil went down, considering one of Canada's largest exports is oil, this fucks things up for us, so the Canadian dollar goes down.
I understand that one of our main exports are oil but do they honestly have to shit so badly on our money?
I understand that one of our main exports are oil but do they honestly have to shit so badly on our money?
yes, it does when oil is one of the larger main exports
Thanks Ob... err... Harper.
New plan: Export maple products. And hockey equipment.
I might take my bike down to Vancouver this weekend.
I had no College today, I though the roads looked fine, but what eves. Like every NSCC college but 2 was closed.

That's just kind of how it is. If our main export is the oil and we have to reduce the prices to remain in the game against the undercutting competition, naturally we'll be making less money and the dollar will suffer.
Is Oil the top export because of the amount we have and because its such a high demand in other country's or did they just decide to make that the top export?
Former.
Apparently if the world burned all of the oil that is expected to be found in Alberta, it would fuck up the world. So there's a bunch of projects extracting oil for the money.
I walked across the street to get Wendy's last night and by the time I got home from my minute and a half walk my drink was brain freeze temperature and my food was lukewarm at best.
Howdy howdy. So I might have an opportunity to relocate to Canada this year (Toronto, more specifically). I've read up a lot on blogs and articles and whatnot about life in Toronto, and Canada in general, but wanted to see if you all had any good/bad reviews of life in Canada.
I'm not terribly bothered by the climate, but if there is enough to do in my rare free time, and if the overall vibe is pretty nice, I feel like I would be more accepting of the idea of moving.
Is Canada pretty aight? and is Toronto a pretty cool city in your opinions?
Toronto is kinda like sticking New York City in a freezer. If you can get by in any city in the US, you can get by in Toronto. Just don't drive downtown, parking is $20. The subway may be shit, and cramped, but it's only $6 (going up to about $7) roundtrip.

I feel like I'll miss the public transit where I am now, (I live in a major city in Germany), but I've heard the public transit in Toronto is still better than what you'll find in most of the US. The weather isn't such a big deal, once I get used to it I imagine.
It seems like Toronto is a pretty varied city, with a lot to offer depending on the specific area, so that part is pretty appealing. Driving wouldn't be a major thing I would do, except for traveling outside of the city. Most likely I'd stick with a monthly pass (pretty sure that's a thing anyway) for my daily commute.
Another day of beach weather!

Toronto is a nice place. It has an amusement park (Canada's Wonderland) with amazing coasters, museums, both movie and acting theaters / theatres, there's a science center, an IMAX theater, little chinatown, good malls, the MTV studio, 2 great conventions (Anime North and Fan Expo) and a shitload of other things / places I haven't been to yet.

Yeah, there's the monthly Metropass for the TTC, but it's only worth it if you make 6 or more roundtrips in a week. Just taking the subway to a 9-5 downtown every day isn't enough to make the Metropass cost less than the cost of tokens, which are $2.25 (right now) if bought in bulk.
Toronto definitely has a lot to offer depending on the area. Greektown is in the east end on The Danforth, Bloor West Village is Ukrainian, Roncesvalles is Polish, Spadina downtown is Chinatown, St. Clair in the west-end has Corso Italia on it, I've heard Parliament has a lot of clubs on it, there's the fairly hipster Liberty Village around Queen St. West and Ossington/Dufferin, and Etobicoke is just full of white people of no particular ethnicity. Then there's the shit to do and places to go, like the Distillery District, the CN Tower (definitely go up the CN Tower as soon as you can, the view of the city is breathtaking. It's because of the CN Tower that I went up the TV Tower in Berlin), Casa Loma, the Toronto Zoo, the Science Centre, any one of the numerous malls, theatres, orchestras, or comedy clubs, every year at the end of August is the Canadian National Exhibition, and year-round you can find some kind of event or festival happening, like the Sportsman's Show, The RV Show, the Auto Show, Polish Fest, Ukrainian Fest, Taste of the Danforth, Toronto PRIDE, and that's just off the top of my head. You can also find any kind of cuisine imaginable in the city, there's even a restaurant that serves currywurst. And believe me, unless you live downtown, which is expensive as balls, you'll want a car. Getting around the city's outskirts is a bitch and a half without a car, since buses are infrequent, cramped, and take forever to get anywhere.

Technically Canada's Wonderland is in Vaughan.
Close enough
Why are you guys trying to get him to come to Toronto...
Toronto's generally grey and depressing during the winter, cold as fuck, and there's not a whole lot to do other than drinking in the winter.
Go to Vancouver instead if you can~
I just have a metropass so I don't have to worry about loosing transfers and drivers bitching about when I show them my transfer.
Can someone help me shed some light on this? I always wondered why I couldn't watch most youtube videos that were located in the United States (such as Saturday Night Live, or other network shows)
I did read this article and I'm still very confused to why we have these copyright restrictions in place.
Like all I could think of right now for an answer is "we need to have more money" but It has to be more than that. I don't want anyone to type up a multi-paragraph length post for me, I just need help looking for the answers.

One of the reasons is that the music they license to use in their TV shows only covers USA usage. It's cheaper to get the USA license than it is to get an International one. This might not be true for all shows with region lock.
Another reason is that the intended audience is supposed to be American only or Canadian only and they are not sure how the shows reception would be with Americans so they hold off showing Canadians or anyone else in the world anything about the show. After it's widely popular, they sell the show's broadcasting rights to the highest bidder and it shows up on a Canadian TV channel maybe a year or two later after the initial release in USA. Happens all the time worldwide with everyone.
The Hong Kong dramas seen on Fairchild TV (Chinese Canadian National TV Channel) are all at least a year old since initial release on whatever Hong Kong TV channel. Also Hong Kong dramas love reusing the same damn talent as previous dramas over and over and over again. Although they alternate roles. One series this talent can be the lowest of the low, trying to work their way up. The next series, they can be the boss of everything. Although each talent generally has their own kind of persona that's frequently found in different series.
So normally I exit out the side door of my apartment building because its closer to me and the bus route. But today I decided to leave via the front door.
Immediately upon exiting I see a 20-something girl in a spandex one piece hoola hooping.
