Had everything. Car I'm used to, one hour of driving in said car with instructor prior to the test. Had a good guy marking me and a nice light traffic road. Fucked it all up. G2. Simply because I couldn't look far enough ahead to see pedestrians crossing and tried to make a right turn straight into a cyclist. I saw them, even had enough time to press the brakes and not have that error count. But no, didn't think and kept pressing the gas. Thankfully, second set of brakes. The rest of the exam I spent in complete silence, almost acing the actual driving part. Fuck. [editline]1[/editline] Dad's gonna be gloating for the next month at least.
I aced the driving's test. But I did the theoritcal test 7 times. I read the books over and over, I answered all answers correctly on the fictional questions people asked me. But whenever I did the test I was so nervous I kept reading the questions wrong.
Any other musicians here?

I have internet at my apartment now :D
I have internet at my apartment now :D
Think of all the porn you can download now!
150GB a month of porn!
Wine trade show tomorrow! I like to think I get paid to drink wine, but I don't.
Failed my motorcycle test for "impeding traffic" due to missing an advance green, but thankfully they gave me a temp until August instead of just one day. So sometime in June/July I'll book a course at Humber College since that's basically a guaranteed pass. This also means I can renew my plates, because they expire on the 19th.
So all three parties are essentially tied at ~30% support. Liberals really fucked up with their unwavering C-51 support
Help! I'm stuck in Seattle!
I'd love to help you out, but I don't know how you got in.
Hockey finals tomorrow. Canada - Russia. Russians won against Americans today, 4:0, but without Bobrovskiy they would get torn apart. Canadians won't forgive such rough mistakes in defense.
So I'm being forced to move to mississauga and I learned that the by-laws not only disallow discharging of firearms, there's a $100,000 fine attached to it and that also includes pellet guns and bows. When did that town become a bunch of fucking pussies, there's plenty of open land over there. I'm going to miss target shooting in my backyard.
Welcome to every major municipality in Canada. I might just move to the states, I'm not used to living in the city and I don't feel like leaving my valuables in a building filled with people I don't know :/
There's a security guard at the entrance to your building, right?
There's a security guard at the entrance to your building, right?
I'd rather live in a place that didn't have the need for one.
I'd rather live in a place that didn't have the need for one.
Where ever you have poor, uneducated people, they'll be crime... FYI: http://www.popcenter.org/library/crimeprevention/volume_10/02-Hope-Privatopia_on_trial.pdf Page 23 (9 on PDF), apartments are less risky than houses. Once adjusted for population.
So the fire alarm went off at the eaton centre. I wonder what happened.
Hey everybody! I am going to Toronto in 4 months and will stay there for 9 months under the IEC Work and Travel initiative with 2 friends. It might be about time to start looking for an apartment and a job if I don't want to pay for a hostel or hotel in the first entire months. I thought it might be a good idea to ask around here. Could you guys (especially those who live in Toronto) give me some advice on where would be the best place to look for part-time jobs (websites, etc.) and where to look for rather cheap apartments for 3 people or maybe even flat shares? Any advice about where to find a trustable car dealer? Maybe someone who knows someone (who knows someone - period)? I would appreciate any help from you guys! Also, feel free to PM me if you want!
Apartments aren't cheap, a cheap apartment is $1000/month, and that's in the ghetto. For part-time jobs, you can always find one somewhere in retail or fast food, and if you're a woman in waitressing. Tom Hortons always seems to be hiring. If you're looking for a 9-month contract job, check and see if the government has anything, or if there are any teaching exchange programs you can do, like coming here and teaching your foreign language to us. As for trustable car dealers, any that have a major brand on them are trustable, and they all tend to have used car lots as well. If you're looking for less-trustable, you can buy a car off kijiji. Though if you're in Toronto and plan to stay in Toronto most of the time, just use TTC to get places, and join a program like car2go is case you need to borrow a Smartcar for anything. Daemon White just moved to Toronto from the middle of buttfuck nowhere, so he'd probably know best about where to find an apartment that's not expensive and not shit. In general, though, Toronto is not a cheap place to live.

I would prefer to find one or two more persons to share an apartment, though. To split up the costs even further. Is there any good website to look for apartments and flat shares? I've been told to take a look at Craigslist, but I am not sure how trustable that really is... To apartments: You say $1000/month would probably be in the ghetto. Then I am wondering, are there any districts or neighboorhoods that we should avoid when looking an apartment? I would prefer to avoid living in a ghetto as much as it's possible.
I would prefer to avoid living in a ghetto as much as it's possible.
Anything in and around Jane & Finch is a definite AVOID, not safe. Also Thorncliffe park. Thorncliffe isn't an unsafe area, as much as a middle eastern ghetto. Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) is from either Pakistan or India or Bangladesh or Sri Lanka. Flemington park, which is a little bit to the north-east (which is where I live) is a bit more balanced, I'd even say it's THE cultural melting pot. Asians, Europeans, Middle East, Africa, they are all here. Apartments go for around $1000-1200. Been living here for the past 7 years, not a single problem, as long as at night you don't go near Vendome Place :). Two bus routes in the area, so, if one is slow, you can always take another one. Very safe, well lit up area with a plaza with a big grocery store, a drugstore, post office, some dollar stores. For a part time job usually it's enough to print your resume and just go around the area to various retail places, handing them out to people with a smile and then calling them back later ). That's how I get my summer job anyways. Unless you're gonna be going to Costco, you don't really need a car in Toronto (GTA anyways). TTC runs very well and as much as people bitch about the subway being filled to the brim from 8-10am and 4 -7pm, you can ALWAYS get where you need to in downtown or otherwise. Get a monthly TTC pass and you're set. Insurance here is an expensive bitch with small tits and no regard for feelings. As much as it weirds me out, I'd actually recommend my area.
Jane & Finch, Jane & Woolner, Jane & Wilson... Basically, don't live on Jane Street north of St. Clair. Rexdale is pretty bad as well, and there's a bad image towards basically all of Scarborough. [editline]19th May 2015[/editline] Also some parts of Parkdale.
I dont know about the rest of toronto, but the apartments around Sherbourne and Wellesley aren't too bad. Keep in mind though, these ones aren't on the cheaper side of Toronto being practically downtown. IIRC, a 2 bed apartment goes for ~1700 a month where I am. Most apartments also have leases where you are contracted to stay at the place for a minimum amount of time before being allowed to move elsewhere. My lease is 1 year for a bachelor room that goes for 1080 a month.
Is that a serious offer?
Yea. I work 9-6 on weekdays though.

I also heard that insurance and taxes are very high in Canada, and even higher for residents with Working Holiday visas...
Jane & Finch, Jane & Woolner, Jane & Wilson... I took a look at that area with Google Streetview (yes...) near the Adams Park and it looked pretty alright to me. Not like a ghetto or something, rather like a quiet place. I also checked out this crime map by CBC, which gave me a good impression on it. What's the matter with Scarborough? Our flight goes on the 16th of September, that's a wednesday. I don't know the exact time at this very moment, though. Wow, that was a long ass post.
