As long as I'm within waking distance of a grocery store and public transit I'll be ok, but I would like to live in downtown Vancouver just to get that big city experience, which coming from living in cities of under 100,000 people in southern Alberta all my life is something I feel I'd at least like to try. I did a quick search and the cheapest apartments I could find in downtown were around the $1000-$1300 mark though. I'll definitely be taking other areas into account though.
If you want to live in China, try Richmond.
Hello fellow Canadians. I've been fucking done with Alberta for years now and luckily since I graduate from university next year, I can finally leave this shitty province and I want the opinions of fellow Canadians of where to go. Ideally I want to live in a large city, but I'm not particularly interested in Toronto and I can't go to Montreal because I can't speak French (thanks Alberta education system for not requiring us to take basic French). Calgary and Edmonton are out of the question as well because I'm done with Alberta. Which pretty much just leaves me with Vancouver. Vancouver isn't an outright bad choice if you can find an affordable apartment, right? Which shouldn't be hard because I'm planning on not having a car for as long as I can avoid it, which will save me around $5000 a year.
I suggest Vancouver or Halifax ,I live in langley BC which is close to Vancouver.
Are you one of the poor asparagus who lived their whole lives in bumfuck nowhere?
Spent 374 days in Alberta working the oil never again.

Not quite bumfuck nowhere, I grew up in a city of around 60,000 people and then moved to a city of 80,000 people for university.

I know of Richmond's reputation of being full of Chinese people, I will not be living there.
I'm in North Van, fantastic place.
And my roommate is moving to Kelowna soon™. So I am kinda-sorta looking for a replacement.

TBH you can still get by in Montreal without speaking a word French. Montreal has a very sizeable English community and I've known tons of English people living here who don't know a single word in French, even the basics evades them. You might have to search a little bit more for jobs but you will find something. Our two biggest universities, Concordia and McGill are English so it's only natural that we are still able to cater to an English-only population though French is definitely a good bonus.

COUGH COUGH COUGH PLEASE I NEED OUT OF THIS PLACE
The loudest thing I do is play bass, and not even that loud, so pls this noob can suck it I need help
I'm in the Tap & Barrel that just opened on Lonsdale (western Canada's new largest restaurant, 600 tables). It's pretty sweet.
Oh chilllllll I have a homie who wants to work there , sounds like a fucking compound, at 600 tables :v
So hot in YYC at the moment. Yesterday it reached a high of 31, today it's 26 and it feels no better.
It's pretty warm in Toronto as of late as well.
But man, I wish I was closer to outside than the sunless lab I spend a lot of my work days in...
While I was eating dinner after work in the pub the bar staff mentioned Lions Gate Bridge was closed, can't find any info about that (and all public traffic cams are out) on the Bridge.
And the 255 is running at quarter to midnight. Normally it ends service at 9pm.
Well this is certainly weird.

You really dont need to know French to live in Montreal, and aside from that most people there know English. Also, why not Ottawa?
Well, that was an interesting walk to the subway station. I had 100 meters to go and some light rain.
In that 100m of walking, I quickly became soaked through my jeans and shoes when a waterfall out of fucking nowhere descended from the skies. On the other hand, now I get to see a kickass lightning show to the north.
Had to ferry some friends across a lake from our campsite to a cottage because of the storm. Three different trips. Fucking nerve wracking.

Got decently wet just going from my car to my house from the curb.
Speaking of, my car's battery died and I have no ideas why. None of the lights were left on, it just died. I had CAA jump it, and it worked, but I don't know if it's going to shit itself tomorrow.
As an Ontarioian, I remember how the summers sucked because of how humid it got.
Fuuuuuuck. This country may remind me at times of southern Ontario but the humidity is a whole other tier.

You're in Japan?
When did you get to Japan?
Also, yeah the humidity is going to be different. You're now in Saltwater territory, and there's a fucktonne of it.
When did flagdog start doing the country you're in, not the country you registered in?
Also the car's working now, since it's not in front of the house, which means my sister's driving it.
I really want to take my bike out at night for a ride around the neighbourhood just south of here, but until I get my shit sorted in that regard I only have an M1, which I can't drive at night with. Granted, I technically had to drive along 3 highways from work to the testing centre without a license twice, so...
Its always been where the post-IP is.
Thats why it shows me as in the US when I post on my Bell phone.
Then why are my posts borked for flag dog. For all you know, I could be posting from Kazakhstan.

No, it used to be by registration IP, not post IP.

Like, almost a week ago.
Nice, how long are you there for? Chinese friend of mine is in Germany for a month to learn German so it really made me want to spend some time there. Got an american friend that was deployed on base there though and he says literally nobody speaks English so he has to use google translate to order food lmao
Another week to go. I kid you fucking not I'd honestly question paying a $2.75 SkyTrain fare but the metro is so fucking nice here I do it in an instant.
Plus my Suica card can be used for alternate transactions like lockers, vending machines and concession booths. Take that, COMPASS!
That and in some places what would equate to a three zone fare in Vancouver would equate to about.....$2 here.
We should have a Vancouver/lower mainland meetup

Fuck ComPass in the ear hole, nobody wanted that system and it cost so much money to implement. As we all know, it still isn't out for the public, which is wasting even more time and money :v longest beta ever
