The following is a quote:
"I want to be part of the upper-class. You all probably do to, we're spending so much time studying to be engineers, I'm sure you all want to be making decent money. Thanks to Trudeau's new tax plans, if we end up making $100 grand a year, which isn't even really that much, we'll be losing 48% of it to taxes, meaning we'll only take home about $52 grand. You can't live in Canada if you want to become rich anymore."
I dont think he understands how taxes work.
100,000 gross a year isnt much ? Was he born with a silver spoon in his mouth?

If I recall correctly they say you need to earn $115K a year to afford a house in Toronto nowadays.

Thats hardly surprising its an inflated market just like Vancouver.

I just looked, it wasn't there. Either photoshop or they removed it
Also because a lot of people dont seem to realize how taxes work
15% on the first $44,701 of taxable income, +
22% on the next $44,700 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over $44,701 up to $89,401), +
26% on the next $49,185 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over $89,401 up to $138,586), +
29% of taxable income over $138,586.
Now just because you end up in a higher tax bracket it doesnt mean they tax your entire income at the new rate its the dollars earned in the tax bracket that are taxed at the new rate.
Example If I earn 44,702$
44,701$ is taxed at 15%
1$ is taxed at 22%
Taxes in Quebec iirc works in brackets where you're taxed on a fixed amount regardless of your income.
For example, if you earn 160k+ you end up in the 160k-300k tax bracket and they tax you on 250k even if you only make 150k. You're actually better off and get more income out of a 150k/year job than something like a 180k/year job.

Being an official GC site, it stayed up for a few hours then they removed it.
A $100K salary gets you a house in vancouver. No mansion by any standards (that requires a $200k+ salary) but you get 2400 square feet of Vancouver Special and you aren't paying 90% of your income on the mortgage.
Should pass a law banning foreigners from owning land...
Should pass a law banning foreigners from owning land...
But everyone is a foreigner in Canada :v:
Though seriously speaking, I'd be out of a job at the mall I work at if a ban like that ever happened.
My lab this morning was surprisingly political, with the general consensus being that we, as engineers, have no future in this country and will need to move if we want to earn any decent money from our degrees.
Engineers always seem so smart until they start talking.
I hope you're ready Vancouver.

In unrelated news I'll be in the city tomorrow and Thursday. Anyone down for a flash meetup or something?
Lets do lunch.
Preferably within walking distance of either seabus station.
I can probably make waterfront by 12:30. I'll pm you my cell number.
FP Vancouver is going.
That reminds me that we need to do FP Toronto. I know I'm going to be downtown all weekend doing labs anyway.

*waves from north of Steeles*
So that rainstorm just partly flooded my bedroom (I'm in a basement apartment.) According to my dad, the weeping tile must've failed - I had a little stream coming out of the crack between the floor and a wall. Managed to clean it all up and dry out the room with a dehumidifier, and it didn't really touch any drywall so I'm not terribly worried about mold. Still, my landlord's going to have to replace the floor and part of the wall, as well as have someone come in, dig up the pipe and replace it.
I just hope it gets done quickly.
City of North Vancouver gave me a parking ticket today. Thankfully it was a warning.

Not my fault you moved into that fuckin' mansion in Markham.
Besides, you're right on/near Steeles aren't you? The buses still run there.

I haven't been there since I was helping him move in months ago, I wonder how it is now :v:
Oh wait, I think I visited again at some point.
The 53 is there which is 24/7, which is great if you're ok waiting for the next damn 353 bus in half an hour at 4am in the morning...
Still takes me a fucking hour to get downtown.
Most of my friends still live in Richmond Hill, and so to go to the bar for them I usually have to leave an hour early to even come close to getting there on time. :/ It's actually faster for me to see my parents in Barrie.

There's a place not too far from where I live. Church street near Wellesley has a decent one. Another one on Yonge that I've seen looks good.
I'm not sure how long car maintenance will take, but if it doesn't take more than a few hours, I might be free on Saturday afternoon.

The Aji Sai at Yonge and Wellesley is pretty good, and it's all you can eat.
