That was actually really good, the pacing, the way he stands in the shadows, the voice of Willem DeFoe
I never would have thought of Dafoe as Ryuk, but holy shit his voice is too perfect for the role. It's not threatening or outright malicious, but something about his voice just seems sinister.
Well, if his parents were hippies, it could explain the name "Light." Remember that there is a guy whose first name is legitimately American. Hippies are wonderful, strange gifts to the world. :v:
I know a dude whose first name is Krishna. Hippies are an interesting bunch.
Looks better than the Japanese live action version of this scene
The live action movies are more on the over the top side than the being serious side. Still enjoyed them for being a bit silly.
willem dafoe is one of the greatest two-faced-looking actors of our time. he's great for evil and good roles, looking menacing or melancholic. love the dude. if anything saves death note as a series, it's him.
light is so ugly in this
Good lord how high are your standards He doesn't look similar to Light in the original show/manga at all, but the actor himself looks fine save for maybe the oddly dyed hair.

They didn't have to make him look like the anime, but they could've gone with more of a preppy pretty boy book ala one direction/bieber/or something.
The first few frames (after the apple drop) of Light reminded me of this actor, Milo Ventimiglia. Almost same face anatomy, except the nose, and younger face and different hair color. Check this video, at 0:38 or 1:01 or 1:17:
I like how they made Ryuk's appearance blurred and obscured. This Ryuk looks better than the one in the Japanese live action.
Is it really blurred for the entire series?
found it weird how ryuk is convincing him to do it, kinda makes light look like not so bad of a guy.
found it weird how ryuk is convincing him to do it, kinda makes light look like not so bad of a guy.
Honestly this is far more believable to me than how Light just carelessly murders in the Anime. I understand his point of view on the world but no one would pick this book up and think "awe yea let's write someones name in it, what's the worst that could happen?". In the Anime I feel Light becomes too consumed with this power way too quickly. Like he was a good kid to start and then suddenly he touches the note and goes on a freaking god complex rampage. It's so jarring in the Anime.
nah light is just fucked up and tests it on an inmate. his reasoning is that they are trash people that deserve to die anyways and are a drain on society which i think says alot more about him as a person than being convinced by a god of death to kill some guy pushing a girl around.

ME AND YOU CAN RULE THIS CITY LIGHT YAGAMI
So this movie screened at Comic Con apparently. Impressions aren't so good. Saying the two leads (L and Light) are average and the supporting cast is a lot better. Dafoe as Ryuk is great though, even Misa's story may be better than other variations seems to be the consensus
it looks good, only concern is that hopefully ryuk isn't too forceful of him to use the notebook. he's just kind of along for the ride and doesn't want anything specifically, which is part of what makes the character so great. he's amoral, not evil, he's just really enjoying himself. [sp]light is the evil one.[/sp] dafoe looks and sounds amazing though
That and maybe Light could have a little less random chatter, like "of course you have a pen...". Correct me if I'm wrong, but the original didn't have that element, making things sound a bit more serious, instead of having sarcastic banter inbetween. Otherwise, this got my attention.
