Most of the time, yeah. But most guys in MMA got their ground base from greco-roman wrestling in high school or college. IMO, it sucks to be in a jiujitsu or grappling class where you're the only guy who has no prior wrestling experience (a personal sob-story, but then i started training in wrestling and jiujitsu simultaneously).

Everyone martial art has some sort of rules, code of ethics, and most importantly: respect and honor. MMA may have these qualities but they it is surely lacking when compared to let's say some style of Karate.
Beating each other to a bloody pulp inside a cage isn't setting a good image for the rest of the martial art world.

Since when did rolling around on the ground prove to be real? If you are fighting in the real world and you manage to get yourself on the ground you are pretty much dead. The other guy isn't going jump on in and play ground techniques with you. He's going to stomp the living shit out of you or acquire something to pound your face in while your down.
Or there is something called a gun. That's real.
Martial arts is about building character, without the concepts listed in my previous post there is no foundation to build said character.
