Oh please, elaborate sensei
Why should I elaborate and waste my time? You seem to be full of yourself so you MUST know everything since you so arrogantly shot down my argument. I'd like to see what your philosophy is. Do you practice MMA? If so, what lessons has it taught you, beyond beating people up?
Martial arts is a way of life for some, and it's sickening to have tough-talking dunces ruin the image of their livelihood.
For the record, I saw the...
The answer to your question is yes. Have you? I don't think so, because you just seem really ignorant if you say that karate is all respectful and good for self-defense while MMA isnt.
Yes, actually.
2 years of LOL TKD
6 years of Judo
And 2 years of Kendo.

I don't practice MMA, I practice BJJ though.
I learn BJJ for self-defense, confidence, and conditioning, no higher reason than yours. I ain't full of myself, I just don't like ignorant people bashing on shit they don't understand. If anything, YOU'RE full of yourself, you just go ahead and stereotype MMA because you see it as some barbaric thing. I see both BJJ which I practice, and MMA as an art. In fact, you're offending your art yourself because you see it as superior to something else, there goes the humbleness.
For philosophy or some shit, look at BJJ for example. It's purely a defensive art. The opponent has to engage YOU for you to utilize the techniques. He takes you down? Full guard and go for a submission to neutralize him. The keyword is SUBMISSION, armbars, rear naked chokes, this all has to do with neutralizing your opponent without killing him. Believe it or not, it taught me humility because BJJ has you defend yourself rather than go confront.
You'll never see tough talking dunces muscular douchbags going all out like a street fighter win against any serious MMA fighters. They'll lose because of superior techique and mindset, look at Bob Sapp. He literally quits after getting punched the first time.
GSP, Lyoto Machida, Forrest Griffin, Shogun, Couture, and etc. All these guys literally pour their heart out to MMA to become something bigger and achieve their dream. These guys don't fucking trash talk like tough dunces, they're humble and acknowledge other fighters strength.
Should I go ahead and look for the most douchebaggest Karate practitioner and use him as an example that everyone who practices Karate are douchebags? No, every human being is different, and unfortunately some douchebags become big. But they become big because of their heart and training nonetheless.
I never discredited Karate or anything else, I'm discrediting you because you're an arrogant tightwad who goes ahead and generalizes MMA as a sport for dumb beer drinking white people, then accuse me of doing it.

Lol, then why are you bashing MMA if that's pretty much what you've done?
Look, I'm just sayin good luck promoting a negative view on one of the most recently and quickly developing sports of this era.

You have to be trolling.
Your attitude alone rings clear that you've never practiced a martial art in your life. No one with real, legitimate training would ever look down on an MMA fighter. An actual fighter of any kind knows it takes a lot of personal commitment, training and sacrifice to get in that sort of condition and perform at that sort of level.
Because you can know all the Judo and TKD and Kendo (hahaha) you want, and any equivalently experienced MMA fighter will absolutely wipe the floor with you. It demands far more than a physical commitment and mastery, you have to have a distinct mindset to do this sort of thing.
I love how the guys who've gotten black belts in their Budda *peace* Budda karate classes come into the MMA thread and start acting like their all tough and shit.
Please don't make me choke on my laughter:

You two are still missing my point. I am not flexing about what martial art is more effective on the mat.
My point is discipline. I'm not talking about discipline on specific individuals, I'm talking about in the martial art as a whole. If you manage to get into UFC you must have had some sort of discipline.
MMA is the new big thing, I applaud those who know what they are doing and show passion in the martial art. Since it is popular, MMA has gotten a lot of growth. More and more students are enrolling since they see it on the TV and "want to learn how to kick ass". Some students are respectable, yes, but most I've seen are the typical illiterate punks who want to be taught how to beat someone to a pulp. Macho-ism and all that crap. THAT is why it is harmful to the community. It may just be my area. It could be the instructors in my area. Who the hell knows.

Most judo or student taekwondoe students I met are punks who wants to act big and bully other people by flaunting their belts.
Does that mean majority of them are? Of course not.
My BJJ school disallows and majority of any respectable MMA gym disallows any fighting other than sparring, competition, or importantly self-defense.
Not to mention, so many kids are wannabe MMA fighters nowadays. They watch one match from UFC and decide to replicate it, thinking they're tough. They did it too when boxing was the big thing. Doesn't mean they're real MMA fighters.
Right here, real MMA fighters give these kids verbal beatdown

If MMA was truly to be some dumb sport for burly idiots and drunk white people, the sport be banned right now.
Not to mention, I'd rather have kids fighting in a MMA gym, jiu-jitsu dojo, TKD dojo, or whatever in a controlled environment, rather fight in the streets where real pain can happen.
This is the sexiest sport on TV.

My instructor didn't have colored belts for just that reason. Student ranks were white, dan ranks were black. Belts were just simply there to keep your gi from getting loose.

Oh God..don't even get me started on those fight clubs. Just recently we had a couple of high school kids arrested for organizing that shit.

and gi's can also be used to increasingly inflate your ego.
doesn't mean it will, I don't generalize.

Do you see the difference between MMA and that? Let me list out how MMA is different from street fighting.

1. Gloves to protect knuckles and increase safety.
2. Referee to protect fighters.
3. Discipline.
4. Soft padded mats.
5. Thinking and tactics.
6. Professionalism

you do realize what Dana said is correct? Majority of UFC fighters at the moment is college educated.

Super awesome red karate dragon outfit means I know the secret ninja technique that's been passed down for thousands of years. Sensei Smith says not to use it in a real fight because it could implode the planet since it unbalances my chi.

Yes, but these kids claimed they were "practicing mixed martial arts". Obviously they didn't know what they were doing.
whats your point
they're street fighters, they're not mixed martial artists.
its like calling myself a judo practitioner and lazily throwing people around concrete, doesn't mean I practice judo. It means I'm an idiot.

My point was made and debated. I'm just rambling now.
Hi.
Hi.
I got banned (again) and am just now catching up on the conversation.

I can't be arsed to predict the others.
What are everyone's picks for UFC 111?

GSP - I like Hardy but don't see him winning
Carwin - but betting on this fight would be like burning money
Pellegrino - but not really interested
Fitch - I won't count saunders out though, not after fitch v pierce
Miller
Diaz
Brown
Wallace - by virtue of better wrestling, not that I really care
Palhares
and Really don't know for Riddle - Soto.
I do brazillian jui jitsu and karate.
It is fun.
Who knows of a good live stream site for UFC that's not laggy as shit?
I love that show Bully Beatdown on MTV. It's where they get some MMA fighters to fight some school bullies. For every round the bully loses in the first 5, the victim of the bully gets $1000. Then if the bully can't last 3 minutes in kick boxing with one, the victim gets 5k. The victim gets up to 10k dollars. Best show ever.

sounds interesting
I'm watching UFC 111 at the movies tomorrow. I'm most excited for Rachelle Leah.
Carwin almost fucking killed Mir. So fucking happy about that result.
GSP was the same old boring shit.
Move him up to MW, no challenges at Welterweight anymore,
Agreed, GSP has been boring me to tears recently.
