The Battle of Mogadishu was a pretty big deal in terms of changes to US foreign policy, it's one of the main reasons we were reluctant to sending in troops during the Rwandan Genocide, or sending in ground forces during the genocides/wars in Eastern Europe. Dammit automerge.
there was a book about some army dudes who got in trouble on a mountain in afghanistan but i cant remember what it's called... anyways it was way more intense than this move.
Restrepo?

The true story of what happened is even sadder.
A sad movie and sad real life event. It's a good example of that even strong modernized armies still face hell even against the weakest opposition.
Haha, show this to a Christian family, watch them explode at all the cursing.
any chance to bash religion
Honestly one of Ridley's best.
I always shed a tear for SFC Randy Shughart and MSG Garry Gordon.

the real life black hawk down event happened on the same day i was born :v:
Don't make movies like this anymore.
any chance to bash religion
I'm actually a Christian, just thought I'd share my experience about what happened.
This movie made me cry. I know, call me a pussy.
I wont because i love you
I'm actually a Christian, just thought I'd share my experience about what happened.
really wow thanks for informing me benedict the third
really wow thanks for informing me benedict the third
No problem, Captain Sarcasm
Really good film, the only problem I had with it is that I found it hard to tell who was who in some of the more hectic battle scenes.
The scene with the two sharpshooters is remarkable. The whole damn film is. Definitely one of my favorites. The score by Hans Zimmer is incredible.

The Army helicopter unit that helped in the production of this movie was the 160th SOAR, which was the same unit that took part in the actual events those two days in Mogadishu. I recall reading in the book that the militia managed to shoot down more than a dozen helicopters, but the vast majority of them were able to land or crash land in the safe zone outside of town...

The militia was fucking relentless too.

Dang, I've always wanted to see this movie.
there was a book about some army dudes who got in trouble on a mountain in afghanistan but i cant remember what it's called... anyways it was way more intense than this move.
Restrepo Its a real shame that there is less and less more war movies based on real life, and that are epic. I wanted to see more movies like this....like focusing on afghanistan....... And greenzone was a shat movie. And you no longer see movies with choppers.

Plenty of them.
Haha, show this to a Christian family, watch them explode at all the cursing.
Uh, my father's a pastor and he's like.. in love with this movie. Don't see what that has to do with anything. Personally, I can never get through this movie, only because I'm pretty squeamish. From the parts I've seen though, it's great.
for some reason i love any movie with josh hartnett in it i own both this and lucky number slevin on blu ray heh
U.S Propaganda; but a solidly marvelous gritty, visceral war movie none the less. One of my personal favorites.
What are you serious? We lost 18 Soldiers and the Red Cross reported over 1,400 Militia dead That's some proper asskicking
What are you serious? We lost 18 Soldiers and the Red Cross reported over 1,400 Militia dead That's some proper asskicking
That sounds like a load of shit to me.
That sounds like a load of shit to me.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Mogadishu_%281993%29 theres also a documentary interviewing the actual soldiers that were there I can't remember the name though
What are you serious? We lost 18 Soldiers and the Red Cross reported over 1,400 Militia dead That's some proper asskicking
To be honest, at the end of the movie when these numbers were shown... That kind of killed part of the sadness in me. I was all like "So I cried for 18 dead American soldiers yet shed no tear for 1400 dead Somalis? Uuuhm..."
