Not much. Just chillin, drinking cocoa, and trying to figure out how this site works again.
I still need to listen to the new vince staples album
[editline]10th August 2017[/editline]

the vince album is super good, i loved summertime 06 2 years ago and this one's a really satisfying followup
as for lana her album is good too, i think i still prefer her first two but these last two seem to be getting more love from the critics
i wasn't sure how i felt about it at first but there's a couple tracks that are really growing on me
I've listened to mostly but Nine Inch Nails (aka dying harddrive music) for the past few months.
Trent Reznor is my bae.
The new Queens of the Stone Age album leaked yesterday, so I've been listening to that almost exclusively for the last day.
I may be a wee bit of a fanboy.
My taste in music recently has just been Fox Stevenson on Spotify, and unironically Eurobeat, because it's fun to ride my motorbikes while listening to Eurobeat..

Fox Stevenson has some fun stuff, I still have a giggle at Saloon's whole bit about "If you ever call me daddy again, I'll finish this fight" :v:
Gotta say All In has been my favorite track by him lately though, though I love how high-energy his tracks are whether he's making dubstep that really rocks the two-step beat or his usual fare of DnB. I have been on a major Liquid DnB kick for the past several months, really like Maduk's "Anyone Out There" remix, but I've had some fun with electropop/future bass/indiepop (idk anymore I've not been heavily involved in music for a while now) in the vein of ODESZA lately too

Songs like this are pretty unique and hard to find good parallels of, unfortunately
RTJ3 was probably my fave vinyl purchase this year, don't know if I want to use the stickers that come with it or not and keep it mint. :v:
Move in for new students at my school is tomorrow. I'm going to be in the office dealing with all the angry parents.
Oh boy wish me luck.
gay chat xii - music discussion
2017 has been my most rap/electronic-minded year to date but i still gotta listen to the new qotsa album and nin ep
I like everything that is not country or classical.
Country I can get because pop country has gotten so trashy and is the epitome of how to ruin a genre, but classical? wut man? Its still a tremendously impressive genre in terms of composition, and in how difficult it is to get a shitload of instruments to harmonize well. That and there's quite a bit of variety in classical music itself, from contemporary composers like Ludovico Einaudi to the classics with silly names
I used to be really into hating on genres for being easy or dumb, but then I started doing music production stuff. Things like dubstep, which I used to shit on for being ez, are actually really fucking difficult for the most part (super rhythmic, lots of sound/patch design, lots of mastering work). I'm not into hiphop or rap much though, tbh. I don't personally enjoy anything Kendrick has put out, for example. I still think his shit's good though, because it tells a story and he's clearly a skilled artist. I still listen to stuff I don't enjoy to pick up new ideas and hear new things, though, and living in the broadcast area of KEXP is a huge blessing when it comes to hearing a tremendous variety of new, rare, and varied music.
At this point, if there's any "objective" quantity I judge music by its in a track's/album's intent, and how well it delivers on that. I have to add an exception for pop though, as the intent of those tracks is to be easily digestible, easily churned out, and highly profitable and they do that quite well. They're just creatively banal.

posting all these links so no one will listen to them ayy
Been addicted to this song recently

I don't know what genre I'd even call it, but after wondering what the fuck I was listening to the first time I've pretty much been Stockholm Syndromed by this band
Trying to find an apartment for the school year is getting stressful, I need a lease starting Sept. 1 or I'll probably never be able to get one. I've applied to a place and they want me to come check the place out, but I'm on vacation in BC right, I only have a few days before we head back through the city, and they haven't gotten back to me about the date. Shit's getting tricky.
Just saw Dunkirk
fuckin amazing movie with hans zimmer knocking it out of the park with a ridiculously good score once again
thanks chris nolan for finally making a film with no dialogue because you can't write dialogue for shit
I like everything that is not country or classical.
do you like dark ambient industrial drone then

Since we're on the topic of music and this is super interesting (despite it being posted in tons of places), have you seen how Zimmer added just nearly endless tension to the score?
link
Shepard tones are weird. Lots of odd musical/audio effects like this that can create unsettling illusions or sounds.
[editline]11th August 2017[/editline]
I'm hopefully seeing dunkirk in 70mm this weekend once I finish my move
i was only able to see dunkirk in imax and even that was an hour drive away
i think the closest 70mm showing was like 3 hours away in a different state.
Time to post elbow?

Everything Everything is my absolute all time favorite band. I can't think of a single song of theirs that I don't really find "bad".
Been looking at moving out of home with friends recently. Due to the economy getting shit rental prices are cheap as, so took a look at this apartment and fell in love with it. Not only do we get a fridge, freezer, washer and dryer along with Fibre to the premises Internet (big deal in Aus), we get a stunning view...

For $360 a week, gonna be applying on Monday. Woo independence!

I discovered them after they released Get to Heaven and have been a fan ever since. Even their poppier stuff is full of tiny details that are easy to miss and make the songs so much better.
One of my friends got to see them open for Tame Impala last year and I'm still jealous >:(

Oh damn. They're good too.
Personally I'd love to go see them, but they seem to only tour in the UK, and I can't justify going to the UK on my own just to see them. :v:
I can only sum it down as it's just not my thing. :V
That's cool if you're passionate but it just isn't my taste.
I don't mind classical style / piano music as long as it is impressive. Rick Wakeman's ABWH Tour keyboard solo is insane.

Oh man I haven't heard NIN in forever but I remember still loving Year Zero.
Music tastes range from Carpenter Brut, to Jimmy Eat World, to Pendulum, to Adiemus.
I'm a musical clusterfuck :v:
