Just saw my school mate from 7 years ago got married to a another guy.
I noticed that on all his photos on fb - if he's anywhere with any guests/people - they are all gay/lesbian too, it doesn't seem very common that say gay/lesbian couples/friends would have say another couple of friends who are straight/traditional (guy and girl).
Do gays/lesbians tend to be more interested in gaining friends who are also gay/lesbian and staying in those circles or is it just coincidence?
Asking because just wondering, my school mate isn't the first case I see like that, my previous boss is also gay and his circle of friends are also majority gay/lesbian.
People tend to find it easier to befriend people with similar experiences. It makes it easier to bond.
That's especially so for LGBT+ people, since it's such a small percentage of the population. Being able to have friends who've been through similar things to you is comforting.
Personally I have gay friends and straight friends and I never intentionally focus on that when it comes to making friends.

Think it's more of the fact that people tend to gravitate to people with similarities.

I don't have to explain the basics of how to treat queer people if i just make friends with queer people
AND it expands relationship opportunities.

Queer people need special treatment?
Queer people need special treatment?
Really its just addressing them by their pronouns and their name, the golden rule. Easy peasy.
When in doubt, just refer to someone as 'they'.
Queer people need special treatment?
It's moreso that queer people can sometimes get less respect or lesser-than treatment than you would give non-queer people.
Isn't "they" just misgendering people, too? I'm a he, and present as such, not gender neutral/fluid/non-binary. Calling me a "they" isn't me?
I just assume pronouns based on what they present/try to present as. Been corrected only once, and it wasn't an issue since. Usually one can tell
Sure but lonewolf said "when in doubt". If somebody wasn't sure, then taking a guess might lead them to say "she" which is much further off the mark than an ambiguous "they". "They" doesn't imply anything, it's just not specifying gender.

"They" is just a neutral pronoun, the same people would use to refer to anyone they don't know the gender of no matter what.
Generally people who prefer "they" choose it because it's neutral, but that doesn't change its meaning or make it refer to anything specific.
I usually stick to they unless I know the person because it makes things much easier for myself and others.

When I said "When in doubt" I meant it in the situation when you don't know that person's gender. Ofc when someone tells you their pronouns then go by it.
I try not to assume one's gender by first impressions as that's a slippery slope so I just default to "they" when first meeting someone.
Just arrived at uni accomodation
It's pretty comfy

I mean, queer is gay right, or has it turned into a umbrella term or something.
Cuz pronouns, I didn't think we had any.
[editline]edit[/editline]
Also holy shit I just noticed I'm a filthy gold member now.
Queer can be used for anyone under the LGBT acronym. Not everyone uses it though. I don't like calling myself queer but I can respect the people who do.
Ah right, I've only really had it used in relation to my turbo gayness.

Lots of trans people go out as a gender they don't identify with when they're not fully out or through hrt.
a lot of the time people won't correct you because most people don't apologise and correct themselves when told they've misgendered someone, and the people that already *get it* aren't going to assume in the first place
A bunch of gay people in the same thread. It's almost as if I'm not in the Midwest!

All my friends are straight. I'd actually really like to know where the fuck I can find other gay people because I've been trying for a pretty long time here.
I'm going to my first fencing tournament tommorow, and getting a Warhammer game in with a Tyranids player.
What a day it will be!
