Pixels getting audio issues are somewhat common, apparently caused by a faulty solder joint around the DAC
Mine started like that, then randomly decided if it was going to play out the headphones or speakers, then just refused to play audio period, which would break a lot of shit.
If if gets worse, time to hit up Google for an RMA

According to Google it's a <1% of users thing, but a friend working at an electronics store said he's had a bunch come in with the same issues.
It could be a lot more common, it's just pretty random if it ever develops, usually set off by being dropped, temperature shifts, or for some reason in my case, upgrading to Android O :v:

If it's any consolation, Google's Warranty process is pretty great
Go through the usual troubleshooting pages, enter your phone number, get a call from an American a few minutes later, tell them what the problem is. If they think it's worth replacing they'll authorise an RMA
They put a hold on your card for the price of the phone (to make sure you don't try and scam them) and ship you a new one along with a return shipping label for the old one

So basically there's this huge outdoor mall where I live, and they have this massive christmas tree they light up every year with a huge celebration to hype it up. It eventually came to the point where they had to introduce santa, and they played this this 2-5 minute video introducing him, and it was all an advertisement for a good amount of the big budget shops around in the mall. And when he finally came to light up the Christmas tree, the local radio stars said "Looks like Santa's not coming in a sleigh this year!"
