Hey gang, I posted in here a few times some years back when I was first coming out and I think I'm gonna come back and just lurk around with y'all. Thought I'd say something before I just suddenly start posting in here out the blue lol.
Sometime soon I want to get a fuckton of new clothes, pretty much replacing most of my wardrobe atm since its more or less hand-me-downs with a handful of items I actually chose myself. New shoes, new jacket, shirts of several types, pants, the whole shebang. Gonna get an ma-1 style flight jacket even if it isnt that fashionable because im a huge space nerd. Pretty much its a nylon bomber jacket with a bright orange lining. You can get ones with patches and stuff already on there but I would rather have a choice about that so im getting a similar type but without anything on it. I might figure out something with Velcro so that if I want NASA mission patches or anything I can put them on and change them, or just not have any. Would be pretty cool to get up to date mission patches as time goes on and then wear them. Its kind of funny though because I dont think these flight jackets had anything to do with NASA specifically other than a lot of early astronauts probably wearing them sometimes because they were USAF guys. It just looks the part. Feels like now that I sort of coming to terms with my sexuality that I want to put a coordinated effort into my appearance.
If you're new or have just living under a rock we have a poppin discord + we'll be doing some giveaways and the like for christmas, one already up and running.

I have an MA-1 bomber jacket. Avoid getting the patches, though, imo. Get a nice plain one. The MA-1 is a great and snug jacket, and if you take care of it and have it dry-cleaned semi-regularly it'll last you forever. it has much better build quality than the cheap knockoffs. i wasn't aware the astronaut corps wore bombers, but the mercury seven were taken from military test pilots from any branch that submitted them for selection. they were much more used from WWII - Vietnam though. The reason the inside is orange has to do with their military use - the idea being that a downed pilot can reverse it to make himself more visible to potential rescuers. in regards to mission patches: fuck yeah, dude. get some of those. I know the company that makes them for NASA also resells some of them to the public, but I forget the name atm so I'll try to find it. I'm getting 1-2 for my missions/launches I've contributed to in a few weeks I hope, and I'm going to get patches for NASA contracts I've worked on that didn't warrant a mission badge (usually not a hardware launch, effectively) embroidered using the contract emblem. I think I'm gonna sew them onto my backpack: its easier to do, for one thing, since its got a nice flat backside and I don't have to potentially damage my bomber jacket :ok: [editline]6th December 2017[/editline] found the company actually: https://space.abemblem.com/
I cycle through jeans, print tees, and pajamas (in private) unless I need to dress up. I look decent enough so eh
I usually just wear jeans, some graphic tees, and usually just undies when I'm on my loansome. When I wanna impress people I wear some dress pants and a fancy blaizer I have. Besides that I really don't have a fashion sense.
I make an effort with my clothes but I'm also not always successful with it lol. Although for men decently color coordinated outfits with some nice trainers always works as far as I'm concerned. Also I really like that the embroidered stuff is in cause I think stuff like rose patches look so nice.
Since my new job has business casual dress code I've merged my usual look of graphic t and jeans with decent slacks and plaid button downs. (Ofc no jeans). So far I've really enjoyed wearing plaid button downs over my t's.
Plaid button downs are godlike. Easily my favorite shirts.
Plaid button downs are godlike. My favorite is this black background with neon green and white stripes plaid, my kind of colors.

If I cant figure out a way to make the velcro pretty subtle I will just keep it plain, maybe keep the "remove before flight" tag because this particular one comes with that. Im pretty certain that I have figured out the ideal fit for my jeans tho, my last pair were 30x32 and they felt a bit too snug around the waist and were around 2 inches too long so the bottom got chewed up. Going for 32x30 this time, and they will all be straight leg jeans in a regular fit because I dont want them to be that snug. I might check that reddit tho and see if I might be wrong about how things should fit. As far as colors go im sticking to cooler colors like dark blues and then greys and whites with a highlight of some kind, usually coming from a graphic tee. In general the goal is to have a space vibe to things, which is why I like a lot of the Tycho shirts as well as NASA and Destiny themed stuff.

Slim isn't that snug, and even skinny jeans are not the junk-destroying monsters everyone says they are ([sp]even if you've got big junk[/sp]). Straight fit or regular fit can look really baggy pretty easily. also slim is comfy af, and so is skinny tbh. I sorta hate baggy clothing though, so I'm a little biased when it comes to fit. dunno if anyone else who's actually given slim/skinny a proper go can offer input though. usually someone gets a skinny or slim pair that's too small or is poorly manufactured and is like "omg skinny jeans crushed my balls and stole my wallet!" be aware that the slim bomber jacket is considerably thinner and has less insulation, so if you need a warm jacket don't do that. Also, pls remove the "Remove Before Flight" tag. not only is leaving it on nearly violating the premise of the tag, but it's what a shitload of the chinese exchange students did at my uni so they could flex their daddy's money and that they got an AI bomber vs that H&M cheap one. Put it on your keyring or something ;p
I’ve got some black pleather leggings I like to wear in the winter. They’re the only pants I really fancy, but I’ve never had fancy pants.
baggy ratty jeans or GTFO
heres a cool new jacket i got a couple weeks back seeing as were talking clothes
eeeee new phone arriving soon, so long as ontrac doesn't lose it like they've lost several of my packages [sp]hahaha fuck except this one is worth almost a grand[/sp] ive had an s5 for all of four and a half years, it needs to be retired. after my pixel died i was heartbroken because i knew it'd be nearly a year until i could get a phone again, but here i finally am thank fuck
i started reading Ready Player One and holy SHIT this book is soooooooo GOOD
My entire wardrobe has always been exclusively op-shop clothes. When I was a kid it used to annoy me that I pretty much just had polo shirts and nothing like my peers when my Mum bought clothing (I also had quite a bit of plaid....), but years on when I purchase my own clothes I find myself just doing the same thing. I'm not exactly a fashionista so this is probably a very naive comment but I sort of feel that any piece of clothing can be considered hip and trendy when viewed in a certain light. I bet the op-shop volunteers sometimes have a hard time discerning genuinely worn tired clothing that shouldn't be sold, from the "worn in" trendy clothing over $100.
I'm curious, did you ever try rooting your S5 and if so how was the reward/effort ratio.
Nope, couldn't be bothered. My roommate freshman year did and didn't notice any huge increases in performance or stability. If you're getting tired of your S5, the Nokia 6 is coming out sometime soon and looks to be a great phone for a really nice price
I'm gonna get back into flight simming. I've had a pilot's license for 4 years now and I miss flying so bad. I'm gonna get X Plane 11 on the next Steam sale. I have to get a new joystick too. Does anyone play this game? I just tried the demo and the framerate i was getting was mediocre with my 970. Is this a CPU or GPU intense game?

I'm going off their devblog though, since its a good resource for stuff about graphics dev (and makes me think it should be optimized well enough to work on a 970, at least)
