Kinda a random thing, but came up in conversation today Does anyone else think that having a Q at the end of LGBTQ is kinda an eh letter to finish an acronym on? It just feels idk how to describe it, less 'crunchy' than having a T at the end, also LGBQT had the benefit of slipping QT in there Also does anyone actually say the '+' in LGBTQ+?
I always use the + and do say it, but I do a lot of public speaking in community stuff so I think a lot of my habits are built out of that. I also use LGBTQIA+ on a semi-regular basis although it is a bit unwieldly if you need to say it a lot. At the end of any speech I offer bragging rights to anyone who can come up to me and tell me what the "full acronym" LGBTQQIP2SAA stands for cause that's always fun :v:
LGBTQQIP2SAA
come again
LGBTQSPAA
Adding so many qualifiers becomes a chore. I thought the Queer in LGBTQ covered anything that LGBT didn't.
I mean if nothing else, the "+" kind of indicates "and all the rest!" lol
I mean if nothing else, the "+" kind of indicates "and all the rest!" lol
the trouble with the whole idea is that the idea itself is "that which is a multiplicity of things" and also "that which is not straight", which is why it keeps growing increasingly meaningless letters every time you look away. You can't make a catagory of "the catagory of that which is not the other catagory.", because you can't have a catagory of that which is not categorized, it's a paradox.
I learned that NASA did indeed issue flight jackets to test pilots and astronauts that are very similar to the MA-1 jackets. Its pretty much the same thing except the pockets are slightly different and the belt area has a buttoned flap over the zipper. It also seems they were issued in turquoise/light blue. Its kind of a shame that they arent being made at present, and if they ever are I bet they will be super expensive because of low volume production.

"Queer" just always used to be an abbreviation of the whole thing by people who weren't into it but didn't want to seem too disrespectful. Poofter was the more derogatory term. Also I'm not clued up on how the whole trans and queer part interacts. I just assumed 'queer genders' where covered under trans.
Adding so many qualifiers becomes a chore. I thought the Queer in LGBTQ covered anything that LGBT didn't.
Who wants to be the "and other" right? Not everyone really identifies with queer tbh, it's taken on a bit of a life of it's own in the more label happy circles as a political/personal choice to not use a specific label. Other people like myself grew up in an area that still used it pretty derogatorily and prefer not to label themselves with it. People just like to have their own word represented too. LGBTQQIP2SAA is, for anyone curious: Lebian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Pan, Two Spirit, Asexual, and Allies You won't hear me say it isn't unweildly :v: , but I don't think it's too hard to see how we got here either
Yea the weird thing for me with queer has always been twofold in a way. Like on one hand I'm not comfortable calling myself queer just because I've never been big on "reclaimed slurs" or w/e, but also "queer" as an identity exists specifically to reject any other label. So including it in LGBTQ... is kinda weird in a way. Queer is generally supposed to be a replacement for any other item in the acronym. I think that the length of the acronym should depend entirely on the context it's used within. I personally feel that LGBT+ works really well for a standard context. It's almost universally understood and prevents a lot of confusion that tends to irritate people who aren't already informed. I get the whole issue of not wanting to be left out but you can also argue that LGBTQQIP2SAA is still too short and you'll end up with a super unwieldy acronym.
Hi guys. How are you all doing?
not well lately, but trying my hardest to hang on. sup dudes
not well lately, but trying my hardest to hang on. sup dudes
Cheer up it will get better. I'll be celebrating my one year with my bf soon. So im excited
for as much shit that happened, i have been getting consistent solid support from family/friends, so all of this could be a lot worse. just takes time i guess. also congrats!
Considering the mind blowing shit that no 21 year old should have to deal with, I'm feeling good. I think I'm just emotionally stronger now. I'm basically starting a company with my dad and our partner. I've been feeling avoidant from the responsibility it brings but at the same time I want things to turn out well so I'm putting a lot of effort into it.
I'm doin' okay. Working from home makes me feel a lot better rather than having to get up every morning and drive somewhere. I've actually been able to get up early in the day and not feel like garbage lol.
I've got finals and I'm really tired.
I've got finals and I'm really tired.
I was so burned out on school by the time my finals came around. This semester was unusually brutal.
I was so burned out on school by the time my finals came around. This semester was unusually brutal.
Yeah its felt particularly stressful for me as well, I'm looking forward to my break if only to get some sleep.
I somehow managed to pass the class i thought i failed so that’s nice Now i just gotta glide through one more semester and I'm home free
First semester over, and ain't back in work till the 31st. Nice.

I was considering becoming an RN. Been taking care of my mom recently since she had a stroke and I really enjoy caring for people as it turns out.
I'm just freelancing for a few people right now. I wish I had a more stable job but I'm still lookin' lol.
I feel left out with all the school talk since I dropped out :V Transferring to a technical college for their IT program though, debating on starting January vs the fall.

I really hope I can pull through and get a solid career down so i won't have to worry about things later. Just want to fund my necessities and tinkerage with hobbies.
what job did you land
so i started interning with a space company last summer, stayed on through the fall-winter while taking 3cr at my uni, then stopped going to classes in winter than worked all summer. After my internship I was just a part-timer, but since I did well enough they offered me a full time position in September. And I did what feels like the stereotypical software dev thing and dropped out to take it :v: i literally only initially got the job because i and another person were the only people to email our bosses checking on our resumes, and since she was busy af she decided to just hire us on the spot. my initial job was maintaining 3D printers and working on a contract to 3d print radiation shielding, but that contract didn't get renewed and I started showing my talents in programming w/ C++ so they set me loose on building an application (solo D:) from the ground up. now im refurbishing our astrodynamics toolkit and software to do trajectory planning and mission feasibility studies for internal projects and NASA contracts.
