Weeeeeell...
I don't know if it could really be called Graphical Design when you basically filled in so much text into it that the text is almost not visible and instead just becomes like a filled colour with open spots.
I know, after finished it I looked up some other text art, and I just kind of died a little inside. I'll probably do some practice with it on my own time, but that was my first attempt at making something of that sort.
I felt the need to post it, shitty as it is.
Yeah, If it's supposed to be a logo you should use Illustrator
Something like this I quickly did can look 100x better then what you have done, because the simplicity of it

Hey is there any way you can email me the project file? I finally got access to Adobe Illustrator CS3 from school.

My God... Are you serious?
Make a rounded square with the rounded square tool.
Apply a gradient to it.
Slap text on top of it.

I like, but then again my opinion on any design work shouldn't be relied on.

I made literally the exact same thing in Paint.NET in 5 minutes.

P.S Why hasn't my Avatar update? I changed it like a week ago.
I look at all your guys' designs, then look back at all my attempts to make a logo...
I'm ashamed of myself.
ok?

Like with anything, practice.
I'm guessing a lot a lot of the people here that post really good stuff have studied at uni/college to get where they are.
In my two years doing a Adv. Diploma in Graphic Design I have learnt so damn much that when I look back at where I was when I started I just laugh.
Keep at it.
It makes indeed absolutely NO SENSE that the girl is blocky as shit, the text is completely clean and free of any serifs whilst the main title is messy, round and wet as fuck.
I also suggest you tighten up the kerning on the text and compose it so they form a square or something. Right now they pop out at different widths making it more messy going against the othewise clean look they and the illustration has. However I think you actually have to re-do the whole girl and font choice and maybe even the whole concept.
Actually, have a question.
Have you put much thought into this? Why have you chosen the style you have? Have you sketched yourself a bunch of ideas and this is the one you ended up with? No? Get to sketching. 10 ideas, 20 ideas, 50 ideas, 100 ideas. You need them. Not necessarily groundbreakingly different ideas, but just changing the font is one idea, just using the upper body of the girl making her bigger is another, maybe something completely different is a third, etc etc. Any possible variation to inspire yourself to make new ideas and eventually coming up with something much better, maybe completely different, maybe a middleground between two similar ideas.
I had a fever and sore throat while sketching the whole thing up and making it, I only sketched out three concepts. If I still have time (I'm not sure what our deadline is) then I'll start the whole thing from scratch.
in fact I just want to forget that poster ever existed

although you can also learn a lot without having to go to university. I started experimenting and playing around with iillustrator 2 years ago when I was 15. And through observing other works and trying out myself I have learned a lot

True. In fact at that age it's a massive leg up if you ever want to go to uni/college. When I tried to get into uni I didn't really have a folio to get into what I wanted.

There's a Gradient tool in PDN that creates a variety of different shaped gradients. there's also a rounded box tool and plugins for inner and outer shadows.
I come from a very small school, and I've finally pitched to the school board and the superintendent (other than a website overhaul) an official unified district logo, as currently the school is utilizing one of several variants of the sports mascot (which is unprofessional in my opinion). I've made some quick rough attempts to see what I like and where I could take the idea if it gets approved and I get to design it:
Attempt 1
[t]http://i.imgur.com/pUye8.png[/t]
Attempt 2
[t]http://i.imgur.com/otip5.png[/t]
If you can't guess, the school colors involve lower greys/blacks and a vibrant orange. Without knowing any background information about the school or anything, how could these be judged? I'd obviously supply multiple variants on either of these (flat grey-scale print versions with reduced range, among others).

I don't want to be mean, but anyone can slap a letter onto a shape
I think you should try and go for something a bit more creative

And creativity is where I'm lacking in this case, which is sort of why I'm posting here. If any advice could be givin, as I'm out of idea's, I'd sure appreciate it.
So yesterday there was a fair here. I found out about it when I was trying to find a way to buy some groceries lol
One of the stands was of Disney XD. They had a small area with ramps for kids to skate around. There was also a billboard for people to write and draw stuff on it. And a small bench with a guy who was drawing a disney character on a skate deck.
So someone hands me a pen and after a while I started drawing on the billboard. The guy notices my drawing since it was the only cool thing there and he started talking to me, saying it was pretty cool. We then started talking about arts n stuff. So I asked him what was better in Munich, design or architecture. Somehow he said that the best job for him was a tattoo artist. He also said that there were a few companies in Hollywood that were looking for designers who knew how to draw with pencils etc, traditional way. I think that is an important factor and theres a lot of people today that only know how to work with photoshop and stuff

but we don't know anything about the school, it's school team, or anything at all. you can't create something out of absolutely nothing.
Here's a banknote design. Had to use 'Republic of design' and the pound symbol.
Was a bit rushed to finish but in the end but I like the outcome. Will probably refine them a bit more for my folio if you guys have any feedback.

Those are really cool, and another thing that makes me wish I had gone into Graphic Design rather than Architecture. Oh well. Still can I guess.

Alright. The school colors are black and orange (I want to stray away from a heavy use of either), the name is Pleasantville District Schools, and the sports division is labelled as the Trojans, yet I'd also like to steer clear of any athletics reference as I feel a school shouldn't be defined by an extracurricular activity that has nothing to do with academics.
So, what I have to work with is Pleasantville, orange, and black. I'm nearly working with nothing.

You have fucking Trojans to work with. You have plenty to work with.
Your sport division is part of your school, it's actually quite important for it, I mean, sheesh, I hate sport, but it doesn't make it un-important. Especially not in America.
Go with Trojan and try to work out a sensible solution for that together with what a school is and the name of the school of course.
Start brainstorming from the word school. Write up any connections you get with school, and then write up the connections you get from the connections to school. See if you can use or combine those words and associations for ideas.
Or maybe this.
We are tourists and you are giving us a tour of the school.
What would you want to point out and show us.
What are it's defining features, why is your school different or specific?
My graphics teacher wants me to make a clock so i can get used to the equipment (laser cutters and what not)
here's what I got (minus the stand)

i'm limited to certain colours of plastic and I must use 2 pieces of plastic. Thoughts on my idea are welcome, I was going for a "Aztec theme with modern colours"
did you design the face? otherwise it's not really much creative work there :P
Made a shirt design

Distressed, vintage shirt style. It's my school's football mascot.
did you design the face? otherwise it's not really much creative work there :P
hah no I didn't, like I said it's just to get used to the equipment, I'm doing my first graded project now though (product analysis) so that's the one i'm concentrating on. I was just wondering if any of you had any good ideas for Aztec colours or ideas
i was actually doing some research into aztec stuff for a redesign for this
[t]http://cdn1.shopperhive.co.uk/n/whittard-of-chelsea-aztec-chilli-hot-chocolate.jpg[/t]
i think you're on the right line! the faces are a big thing, all their gods and stuff, and then some geometric patterns around the side. i think your current design definitely 'says' aztec, if that's what you're asking.
Trying to get work placement is hard, and I gotta find it soon or I'm going to fail.
I've been cold calling/emailing with my folio to about 30+ places and no luck.
Autumn I remember you mentioned doing some a while ago. Got any tips?
yeahp, thanks. I wanted to be all deep and stuff so I tried to make it look like a sun because they probably worshiped some sun god. I'll probably make my own face when I have time.

I did one too! but yeah, don't email talk to them in person. It's hard to ignore a person in front of you
