either way, the main difference between those images and his design is his feels very disconnected and all over the place, wheras those other ones have a flow
if you insist on keeping is messy, work on that.
I think what makes it look disconnected is the red front end. But that's honestly something I like myself.
The thing to remember too, is that this is a drift car. The style here is a bit different from track/time attack cars.
Here are some other drift cars:

They're all simple designs, but then add the sponsors and you get the "busy" look
the only one i like there is the first.
the rasta thing (the three colors) are all over the body, the dragon goes from the back to the front. it feels like a whole thing, not just shit slapped randomly over the car.
Yeah I love that one too. If I were to design my own car from scratch with no criterias, it'd be something like this. It's just a car I made in Forza 4. The theme is "Fresh", lol.

i dont think the busy theme works well if parts are untouched
I just wanted to mention something regarding my poster.
I also got some feedback on the font. That it is to soft because the meaning of the text is selfish and harsh that I need to pick a rougher font.
And also regarding the color palette. I like both of them, but when I showed all the versions to my friends and family they don't like the last palette and like the pink and red one more.
So much so that they even said that the orange, green one is ugly compared to the red pink one.
I'd just like some feedback on this from you guys since I'd rather make one poster 50 times and learn something, than make 50 posters one time and they would all suck or be mediocre (and I'd still be Tom Preston).
Oh and in case you don't know which posters this is about:
Version 1 (pink/red): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1275475/poster.png
Last version (orange/green): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1275475/poster3.png
That's worse. Much worse.
Your previous one was much better. Your colours are all over the place in your newest and doesn't really make sense.
The tough message is displayed well through the generic grunge as well as the text and heartbreak effect. The colours in the original represents the fact that it is about love well. In your previous one the heartbreak lightning gap also looks much more like a solid platform she is actually standing on, in the newest one it looks like a hole and she is just floating above it.
Version 1 has a more clear message, contains more focus and represents the message MUCH better than your orange green shit. Red is a powerful and atteentionwhoring colour and should not be used as a main colour unless you are really good at using it. Red is used to create contrast, catch focus and give life, not to be everything, that is what we have cooler colours for, like blue.
I disagree, I find the colours in the second one much better and less straining on the eyes. I just have a problem with the font & grunge since there's really no need for grunge to be there. Try just solid colours or some noise, that would instantly look better on both
Yes dgg I agree with you but my problem is now this:
-what do I do with my original color palette since everyone says it's very hard on the eyes? (red/pink)
-or should I work on the second color palette which people say is easier on the eyes, but neither you nor I like it.
Oh and goodthief I did use solid colors I just don't like noise effects myself. I know I should put the overall design above what I like personally, but I really really like grunge more than noise.
That being said can I change the grunge to make it better because I don't like the poster plain without any effect either?
While the first one is a bit hard on the eyes, I think the second one's colors don't really make sense with the message. Why the green and gray, if not just for the pallete?
Also, I don't think the grunge effect is really that necessary. maybe try a few without it. And also try positioning your elements differently, maybe that can change a lot
I don't want to re position them because I've calculated every distance and heart size an all according to some golden ratio stuff.
I think I need to find a good palette that allows keeping her red, a good font and try it without grunge.
Gah, I don't know am I making excuses or am I partially right?
you need to learn that doing something perfectly according to the golden ratios (or whatever) doesn't make it look perfect. they are good bases to start from, but don't just assume that because it fits to those ratios it's the best possible layout/composition it could be.
same as before when you tried to justify your first palette because you "got it from a graphic design website"... that doesn't mean fuck all if you're not using it well.
also re: your new palette, i like the mix of colours a lot more than the first one, but i think the beige background could carry over well, instead of the red it is in no.2.
and i don't know if it's been addressed but the typeface could be better. if you're going for a somewhat grungy look then having a smooth, rounded font doesn't really fit in with that. it just makes me think of these

just out of curiosity, can you upload a version with your golden ratio set up?

I'll have to put much more time and research into this...
Obviously if anyone could make a perfect poster or anything from a couple of tutorials there would be no graphic design schools.
I'll be posting the revised version next week so it doesn't get too much like dgg's rat.
I'm thinking something more along these ways maybe? If you want it to be less eyeraping I mean.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3655193/Nyancatposter.jpg
I also think the font is just wrong. You have a grungy background and love depression, but the font is like taken straight out of a cartoon.

You know, it's fully possible to just post a link.
The reason people hate revisions is because they are forced to see it and become pretty fucking fed up with it. With a link they only see it when they feel like it.

Haha, yes I don't actually have time this week what with the exams and all I just love mentioning your rat as much as possible.
brewing on an Equilibrium poster.
here's two variants of an idea i got.

(the film is about a world where everything is identical and feelings are forbidden, including stuff that can provoke feelings like anything art and antique stuff (hence the serif and sans-serif stuff))
(also the one on the right refers to this scene (the protagonist, whom is in the middle, later reorganizes his desk (i will probably flesh out the desks a bit more)))
definitely the 2nd one
i really like the colours of the second, and the text and stuff
also you should really get the credits typed up and out of the way, the way they look can determine placement of other things, if they appear too thin you may need to balance stuff out, etc, just get them done so you get a better idea of the complete picture earlier on.
i think the desk stuff could work if you worked on the desks more, made them recognizable as desks. i had no idea what they were before i read what you said, i thought they might be beds or something but i wasnt sure
[editline]21st November 2011[/editline]
also i think you should give your borders more breathing room, and making the title smaller allows for more space between the desks (much like in the movie)

it also works to not make the desks look so tiny, in comparison to the text
[editline]21st November 2011[/editline]
overall i think it is a very nice idea and a very good (so far) execution that just needs more refinement
remember that invite design i posted? another uni reckons i plagerised their concept haha
lol
show us theirs
haven't seen it was only told today, dunno if it was the invite or just their general concept
well i very much trust you ashman and im sure youve never even seen theirs
thanks man
it was funny trying to convice my course coordinator i'd never seen it, i had to print of my research and development work for her haha
thats really shitty, unfortunately this stuff happens in the design world
im sure it'll work out
well since you haven't plagiarised then you have nothing to worry about. it may be annoying, but so long as you have the proof it was your original idea then have no grounds to claim plagiarism.
even funnier im going there on friday for a interview to go there next year, i should put it in my folio for a laugh
u should have an anecdote about that that defames the person claiming you plagiarised it but thumbs up their school so as to look good all round
uh if you're serious, not a great idea if you've not yet proved to them that it's your idea
yeah a know, just havin a joke
