I am working on a poster for a movie competition. Need some help with a good name for the movie and font / layout etc... [thumb]http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/6258/contrary.jpg[/thumb] Plot Summary: Archaeologists stumble apon a mysterious object which is sent to a secure facility for further analysis. Communication with the scientists involved in the project is lost and a team of experts lead by Colonel John Lautens (Gary Sinise) is sent in to recover them only to find that the facility is abandoned. When the team start to investigate, paranormal events start to occure and it seems the more of the mystery the team uncovers the worse things get for them.
too much lensflare, too much going on and is messy, graphics hard to immediately make out, alienware logo?
Less lensflare ok ill remove it? Clean out space junk? Some i stock alien logo that i will replace later
Basically, I have no idea the message the graphics are trying to convey, it seems random and slapped together
Basically, I have no idea the message the graphics are trying to convey, it seems random and slapped together
Which is why im asking for help
well you can start by telling us what the poster is supposed to mean
Cleaned up a little more [thumb]http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/4646/contrary3.jpg[/thumb] Wasn't really trying to convey a meaning, more of a reation to make you look at the back cover. I'v shown others and its not really catching there attention as i would like it to. By the way i really appreciate the help rusty
you still haven't said the idea behind the imagery, what it is you want to convey
you still haven't said the idea behind the imagery, what it is you want to convey
and xroblade, this is exactly why we can't help you without any idea or message it's difficult to comment on how to improve it
Well i was trying to show that the world is in danger but without giving away what its in danger of. I wanted a mysterious object floating in space that leaves you with the question what is it? I'm now thinking about having a picture where things look normal but have the objects in the picture form a figure of something ominous. Am i over thinking it? Most of the movie posters ive seen don't seem to have a message at all and just have a shot of the main actor with a background related to the movie.
try having something not in front of the earth, maybe above it. and make it larger than the earth, indicating threat
Well, I saw this name somewhere and decided I wanted to do a logo just for the fun of it [thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25318683/candyrufus.jpg[/thumb] I'm not so sure about the font for the name. C&C?
not digging the font
how about this? [thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25318683/candyrufus2.jpg[/thumb] [editline]asdasd[/editline] Now it kinda looks like a clothing brand...
lobster? try lots and lots of fonts, just randomly picking a couple probably won't give you a good selection

does anyone know any good layout/grid books? [editline]23rd November 2011[/editline] i found one by Josef Muller-Brockmann but it's kinda expensive, seems worth it though being from him
i assume you mean this one [t]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/415P1SK791L._SL500_AA300_.jpg[/t] it's always been on our reading list for uni, it's said to be the best
yeah thats the one, might get it for christmas i think it would help me a lot
anyone have any suggestions on a good callygraphic like font for the logo?
http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=601&text=Candy+Rufus&fpp=20&psize=l i don't think calligraphic is the way to go though. it's a gaming company, it's modern and it's digital, not aged and arty. though this one looks quite nice with those words http://www.dafont.com/channel.font?fpp=20&psize=l&text=Candy+Rufus http://www.dafont.com/ballpark-weiner.font?fpp=20&psize=l&text=Candy+Rufus

And besides the R looking like a B (I did notice that, but didn't change it) what do you think about the caramel itself?
i think it's very flat. there's nothing particularly original about it, and the wrapper ends are crudely done
*feedback*
thanks for the feedback, rusty! btw, how do you achieve that grunge/wear/tear/strokes on your posters? [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13290261/grandenanchopartay.png[/t] I've changed the size of things and such like suggested and typed in the billing block. Also, I tried making the desks more recognizable as desks by adding a few details. I don't think it works too well though. I would add the lamps but I can't figure out how to portray them without it looking like shit/a DJ's mix table. Suggestions?
I guess I can post this here too?
HEY GUYS! So I'm kind of trialing RedBubble.com right now for selling my posters, maybe shirts too. Feel free to buy something if you're so inclined :) First time I've actually sold anything of mine, I thought I'd give this website a go. http://www.redbubble.com/people/rusty100 If there's anything missing, let me know and I'll upload it. I will be eternally grateful to anybody who buys something. You will be my very first customer.
<3
i will most likely purchase a drive poster from u in the near future
thank u kevlar jeans ur supporting my future also for the grunge, i do a combination of things. it depends what look you want. you can overlay some old paper. you can theshhold some old paper to get the dotted, dirty look (threshhold tool, remove white or black in blending options, merge with another layer, colour overlay). you can just add some brushes here and there too. [editline]25th November 2011[/editline]
too fucking expensive i can get a "large" print for $3 if i have the art, so if i bought it from you for say $15 itd be less than half the price
:(
calling the equilibrium poster done. i will go and improve the wear and tear if i get time though. it came out a bit too fake looking. [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13290261/equilibriummmmmmmils.png[/t] onto the breaking bad poster. i decided to kill off my previous idea, and started experimenting with walt's blue crystal meth. here's a mockup i did. the crystal meth is forming the drawing of walt/heisenberg seen in the show. shit idea y/n?
The problem with your grunge is that it's only white. Where is the overlayed worn out effect that affects the whole poster?
love the breaking bad one jens!
